You absolutely need a legit e-MTB. I get some shade locally at some trails, but even with my kit e-bike, there are legal trails for it that would get me tackled off a Surron.
Those trails at Walnut Creek park are maintained by Austin Ridge Riders with volunteer trail building events. There was one this past Sunday at the section at 18:00 to build back up the bank, the jump, and other features, so it's even better right there now.
Good thing in germany, you have insanely clear regulations on what is allowed where. The differences between bike, E-bike and e-motorbike are defined by law and there is no wishy washy on anything.

Motorized bikes were banned from trails for several reasons, primarily noise, but later for the concerns of excessive speeds, reckless riders, and environmental issues. Eventually, there will be more explicit and commonly accepted terms, especially if enough people get eBikes

I have a Nucular 24F controller that can be programed with 72V if you haven't bought a BAC already. I am happy enough with stock speed I just would exchange it for your stock battery because I would like to have a second one so I know I can make it back where ever I went. I also can throw in a Regen brake throttle with it.
For reference, no motorized vehicles references gas motors. Which means your surron is allowed. (technically it's not because it's not a class 2 once unlocked, but who cares)
The keyword is vehicles and what's considered a vehicle. In my area, the local pd issued this statement saying that surrons are registerable vehicles and shouldn't be used where vehicles are prohibited.

I know a few people who have surrons but ended up selling it for an emtb. but I don't think they ever registered it before they sold it though. There are people on the forums in colorado who have registered it though and it looks like you need insurance first before registering
@@BFBMTb you can get insurance on a surron, but you need to have something like a VIN number for registration- and they don't have that.
@@SylvieTheBagel from what I've seen, people are using the serial number as the VIN number to register it. I guess luna made a guide on registration or something. There's also a few topics on registering it on the sub reddit for surrons with users in the usa sharing how they got it registered. I've looked into this for some time since I've been wanting one for a little town cruiser or ohv bike (I wouldn't use on mtb trails, the wheel size and weight really limits it)
I got the Gladiator 60v max. Even more range than you think. Great batteries. Quality stuff and customer service. I have a EMB BAC4000 too, but haven't installed yet. It's just so easy to swap the stock and Chibattery on the same controller.
Get the BAC 8k and a 72v it does last longer if you don't throttle the s out of it. You WILL be SO happy you did.
I witnessed a dude fly down a trail on one of these things and hit a teen mountain biker about my age. The kid was trying to ask for help, but couldn't speak as his jaw was shattered. The dude driving the Sur-Ron left as quick as he could... Never identified. A teen's future was immediately destroyed by someone who broke rules that are there for a reason.
These things are banned from BIKE trails for a reason. Wouldn't you agree motorcycles and mountain bikes don't mix? I can't wait for the day that Sur-Ron riders have their own trails... Too many accidents and reckless riders. It makes responsible riders look bad. It's a tricky thing to balance it! Stay safe.

Was down in Austin this past week. Did a 65 mile ride from Killeen on my Onyx RCR. People seem alright with 2 onyx bikes on bike trails.

I have a TSDZ2 mid drive on my Fat Tad (I'm handicapped so I get away with murder) and I've gotten full air at the local MTB bike park - torque sensing pedal assist will let you *launch* even harder than Lance Armstrong - freaked me out the first time *both* wheels came up off the dirt, but when the back end came up and started to gyro on me I knew I had cracked the code (I can only push a pedal with one of my legs so way better results than I ever expected out of this tiny unit).
It's currently destroyed because I keep smashing it and I'm in the middle of some serious upgrades to give me more speed, torque, better brakes (disc brakes can't handle an unexpected -1500 foot elevation change, I found out the very hard way) and modify my handlebars/clips completely for the riding it does.
On the bench I'm assembling a back wheel with an Enviolo hub and drivetrain with Gates Carbon belt. They make a tandem bike kit which I can adapt to my tadpole's stupidly long chainlength and super weak idlers (also broken) with a jackshaft and a couple extra small gates sprockets. I knew the first time I went in sand my chain was doomed and I finally did and it was. Can't ride the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area with that nonsense going on, nope.
If you want to go cheap, get a frame somewhere and get a mid drive with internal torque/cadence sensors (so it works right) then put the rest of the parts on you like. Most bikes that are good out of the box are pretty expensive and most bikes that are affordable need a bunch of upgrades (and then you're stuck with junk parts unless someone wants them).
Check Priority Bikes. They have both non and electrified bikes, but you also can have options of Enviolo or Rohloff IGH (or even Pinion front gearbox) along with every single bike they sell already comes with Gates Carbon belt drive from the factory.

Dude, make sure trails are ebike allowing, thst makes it legal. This is also not an electric assist, and is just an electric motorcycle. People can and will make you leave, less likely if you take care and caution with trail direction and area rules. Don’t be that guy who is going uphill on the downhill trails. Nearly broke my neck when i got hit once, only an e assist, not even a sur ron.

If that's a mountain bike and hiking trail, which looks like it might be. Only class 1 ebikes are allowed, they are classified as non motorized, class 2s and 3 which yours is, are not allowed because they have a throttle, go to fast, and have no way to pedal. It is people doing what you're doing that will get e-bikes banned from trail systems. Unless that is a motocross trail.
I have both class 1 and 2 and only ride my class 1 on trails that are for mountain bikes.

1 mountain bike rider once tried to keep up with me on my sur ron (stock) down a hill and he simply couldn't due to limitations of his bike and he got so fuckin pissed at the bottom he slammed his bike down and said you think your fast huh, pedal bikes are better and I said, well obviously not as you got demolished and e bikes are shit tons more fun, more air time, more intense corning around burns etc, then he flipped his bike in mid air (His bike was definitely an expensive bike) and then said back to me going, I'll do this to your bike, then I said, good on ya ruining your bike, try catch me then I rode off LMAO

Looking at your videos and seeing how much it is bouncing up and down on your handlebar must be putting unnecessary fatigue on your wrists. Maybe check for loose spokes on your front wheel, or better bring your wheel in a bike shop so they can true your wheel.

With a large number of them being seized and crushed. And there's a great trail around Northwest Austin by Highway 360 in Northwest Austin. I used to live in Northwest Austin off of FM620 But I recently moved to Florida.

You driving on roads where regulated vehicles are will soon place you amongst them. Electric bikes are motorized vehicles and you should be regulated just like motorcycles. Its like saying Tesla's are not cars because they run on batteries which makes no sense.

Think of it this way in a watered down version, you pay your registration and taxes on a vehicle you use like everyone else for the right to drive on roads of which about 50% goes towards making and upkeeping those same roads. Bike lanes in cities come out of your regular taxes and other funds the state allocated like grants, public and private funds, donations and programs similar to CMAQ to ensure less congestion and safety for people commuting with bicycles in denser areas. The rule of thumb is that all vehicles that can travel at the speed of 30Mph consistently or over, which is around 50cc or more in power, have to be registered and conduct emissions by the state to use public roads and fall in line with everyone else financially and legally. Driving a moped or other unregistered or in some cases uninsured vehicles on public roads in most states means you take on full responsibility of injuries or any outcome that may happen to you in an accident. Speaking from personal experience I was walking in a park one time and a guy on an electric bike zoomed beside be at well over 35Mph and it was a frightening experience no matter my size or my stance all it takes is one bump or accident and I or someone else could end up severely injured or even dead. Bikes go fast too but you have to be a pro and go down hills or long flat distances to achieve high speeds near 30 Mph or more on certain bikes without consistency. This isn't easy to do and as soon as you stop imputing force your speeds drop significantly hence why bikes are classified differently. Eclectic power on an E bikes is similar to that of motor power on motorcycles allowing you to achieve these speeds with ease as well as much higher speeds with unregulated upgrades which is where all of these issues come about regarding personal and public safety as well as compliance. Not trying to bash you or your fun hobby you just have to be wise with your actions because promoting these videos and driving on public roads and boasting about powerful E Bikes will soon bring them as a whole into the minds of law makers. I advise everyone to be morally responsible and think of their loved ones as well when buying such a vehicle because if your son daughter or family member was severely struck by a careless rider going at high speed, or was the one who on the other side and took another's life or caused serious injury to them or themselves on a public road due to an accident , it would leave them you or others scared forever regardless of policy, compensation or right of way. There is a reason why Motorcycle licenses exist and why things are paid for to be used. And always remember these two things, speed gets you noticed but it also kills and just because a company sells you an item that is currently unregulated or unincorporated into laws to make money does not guarantee your safety legality or much of anything. You hear stories every day of people using an unregulated product and paying for it in severe ways. Hoping its not you one day, stay safe and please be mindful of your actions.

Sur rons have the same profile as a mountain bike and weigh a little over 100 but if you drove a Tesla on the bike path at the same low cautious speeds as me I probably wouldn’t fault you

Love it when someone points out the no motor vehicle sign. Those where put up well before e-bikes. Because people where taking there gas engine 3-4 wheelers and gas dirt bikes . Shooting out poison exhaust down walk and bike paths. I had that happen one time. Told him what i wrote here and that he should educate himself and mind his own business then took off. It's a problem because people equal sh!t, you can't justify when somebody goes down a path doing 30mph plus when everyone else is under 20mph or on foot walking, jogging, etc... It starts to become a safety issue. I'm not against ebikes, but against stupid people.
Here in Oregon, some trails were built with state grants that were provided with that intent to ban OHVs before e-bikes were popular. OPRD has since clarified in 2019 that class compliant e-bikes are specifically excluded from that prohibition. I was able to point to the document and get restrictions and signage changed at a local trail this year to reflect that. Sometimes all people have to do is talk to the right people.
The reason for not wanting motorized bikes on trails is not because they produce “poison exhaust smells” but because they root out the trails if not ridden properly. it won’t matter too much on a trail like he was riding in the video but on a trail with jumps and berms it totally destroys the lips of jumps. I build mtb jumps and trails and I also ride dirt bikes and four wheelers so I know from experience. So just stay off the trails that are meant for bikes and ride trails that are meant for dirt bikes. Btw what do you mean by “poison exhaust”? Do you think that riding something gas powered is going to kill the environment? We have no control over when the world’s gonna end so why fixate on trying to preserve it by not using anything that’s powered by a combustion engine? Just a thought.
The reason for now wanting them isn’t bcs of the smoke and everything they don’t want them bcs they destroy the trails and jumps since they are heavier and have more torque a trail in California has already been closed bcs of Surrons bcs they were destroying the jumps
