the 2nd part to the master piece known as wings. and can I just say that it was so much harder than I thought to stand there for 18 minutes with my arm in the air recording this song.
I was fortunate enough to be front stage that particular evening. thank you Adam, Justin, Dan, and especially Maynard for playing Wings and 10,000 days in my home town. This piece of music holds a place in my heart.
yes, the whole album is dedicated to her, the song describes his disgust with her funeral precedings, how he felt somewhat inadequate as her son, and basically a last bon voyage to his mother in her journey to the next life
It's a shame. When I saw them live in '06 and they did Wings for Marie/10,000, the light spectacle was absolutely breathtaking. One of the greatest things I've witnessed in my life.
I can listen to this verse all day. Such a powerful vocal performance. It seems as if he's beginning to lose his voice, however. You're the only one who can hold your head up high, Shake your fists at the gates saying: "I've come home now! Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now! My time now! Give me my, give me my wings!"
I always feel as if I could conquer the world in a day when they get to the "Set as I am in my ways" part. These guys are just so insanely good live. Nice upload!
even when they play this one live it really sounds good. this song is really powerfull. The cills run down my spine listening to this, it really is something different, not only by Tool, but also in the metalscene
It was for his mother, whose middle name was Marie. She had a stroke and was paralyzed for 27 years before she passed away, 27 years after. 27 years multiplied by 365 days is 9,855, about 10,000 days. That's it in a nutshell.
I heard this song and wings part 1 are about Maynard's mother going to heaven. =O Amazing song in evey way, I can fall asleep to this wherever I am. Tool is the best band of all time.
One of the best pieces of art ever created. The synchronised version you get from the songs on the album is amazing- it's like part 3. I think Viginti Tres means Synchronisation in some language. There is a good reason they put Viginti Tres on the album, the reason is 10:13
This makes me want to cry, haha. I went and saw them at The Gorge on August 27th. That was at the begining of the tour so Wings/10,000 Days and Right In Two werent on the set list at that point. I pray they do one more 10,000 days tour kind of like the way they did the Lateralus tour. I need to see them again. This makes me sad and reminds me of how much fun I had seeing these guys at The Gorge, one of the best venues in the entire country hands down.
fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. ITS TIME NOW!!!! MY TIME NOW!!!! GIVE ME MY!!!!! GIVE ME MY WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first time I saw Tool was in 2009, during the second leg of their 10,000 Days tour. I was completely sober at that time. Yet, it was one of the best experiences ever. I've since experimented with a ton of drugs, but the best mindset I've ever entered was listening to Tool alone, particularly during their later albums where they become experimental. There is no greater euphoria than a "Toolgasm". That's my claim. :)
I'm going to see these guys in Colo Springs next week, they haven't played this song at either of their stops in Colorado yet-- so I can't fucking wait to see it... It's gotta be on their set list now. Jesus what an amazing song.
Man, I traveled to UTAH the first time I saw them from California. Then I saw them here in Indio for coachella fest, then I saw them at san diego street scene, then I saw them in bakersfield (4-hour drive)
this is a great vid of a rare stage show... Ive seen em 8xs, bout a wk after this & this is by far the best "show", didnt hurt being in seats stage left cuz the floor screen was sicccccK!!! I remember the red&amber lasers so vividly,,, i actually reached out & touched one ;)
I love how Tool discourages taping their live performances because it doesn't do it justice since it's supposed to be an experience. I'm not flying 3000 miles unless I'm allowed to hang out with you afterwards.
Amazing bootleg video! I give you props for pulling it off. Decent audio and visual. You stood next to guys who can't sing in key too huh? It was an amazing show from an amazing band that never stops putting out great material!
Shame they don't play this EPIC live anymore. I was lucky enough to have seen it twice. Still not enough. 10/7/2006 wings pt. 2 crowd reaction. Check that out. The band actually pulled out chairs and watched us light our lighters and scream and cheer for like 5 minutes, I'm sure they needed the rest. But I doubt they got as epic a reaction as Long Island gave them that night.
@pebblefrog196 Thats why he refuses to play it live anymore. This piece is far too emotional for him to perform. You can hear the hesitation to even utter the next line in the song. Just goes to show that even as angry as he may be, he still has a heart, its just broken
if you have ever been to a tool show.. you would know that recordings dont sound so great, because they play their music SO FUCKING LOUD.. tool is amazing live.. you all should be happy that someone had the balls to record it.. they are very strict with there no camera policy.
That's because it's true, birth and death are the same moment essentially. But he also never talks about "next life" or reincarnation, that doesn't mean he doesn't believe in it. In life, especially within occult teachings, you return to the state you came in as you birthed. Then you move on depending on what it is you have to learn. Anyways, good stuff.
clearly, you've never seen a tool concert and heard how loud they are. he isn't fucking with the volume, it's just cutting out because the bass and music is so bloody loud
"I thought to stand there for 18 minutes with my arm in the air recording this song" I'll say, I recorded both Rosetta and Wings. Your video quality is defintiely one of the best i've seen, much better than mine :). To answer your question, mine was filmed in Toronto on September 23rd.
thanx 4 the vid!!! ive looked awhile 4 this live version, its rare :)))))))))) i jus stumbled on it, fuckin A right! this was prolly the most memorable of 6shows, but at the same time kinda sorta due to intoxications...the following spring was pretty sic too! the clouds...
Viginti Tres is latin for '23', a number of great significance throughout the history of many cultures. you (below) mention the reason is 10:13, (10+13=23), coincidence?
my solution is to not listen to tool for a couple of months,it helps me appreciate different styles and feelings in other music, and research there are a fuckload of great bands out there(were)
I was in the floor section. Great concert, but could someone tell me the purpose of these people waving their hands. There really fucking up the show for the people behind them.
For sale? No. There are several bootlegs floating around. I could send you an entire concert (this one if you want) for free. And by the way, Maynard has no problem with bootlegs, as long as you don't profit from it.. And might I suggest attending one of their concerts this summer.
Try ticketmaster online the second they go on sale. Thats the only way that works. Secondly, If that fails then hit ebay afterwards. In 2006 I Went to Fred Meyers for tickets at 6am,was third in line, and all tickits were sold before I reached the counter. Tha fuckin sucked asses.
I am a drummer and danny carey fucking speaks to me.. but i am horrible at analyzing lyrics. this song is about his mother....right? someone help me out
this as well is my favorite song by tool, i like how in this vid theres some guy singing along with the song hahaha if he didnt sound half retarded it would be great hahaha its so awesome that you captured this on tape good job dude your the man
personally i would of rather grooved to the song...And would not of captured anything on my phone for sure. Btw when i was at this our Sept 30 Washington DC I was so fukked up i wouldnt of known how to use a phone! lmfao
I was fortunate enough to be front stage that particular evening. thank you Adam, Justin, Dan, and especially Maynard for playing Wings and 10,000 days in my home town. This piece of music holds a place in my heart.
Joseph Murdough
I was there too! Epic night for sure
They don't capture the emotion on stage.. They create it, because their music comes from their hearts. Strong emotional stuff right here.
yes, the whole album is dedicated to her, the song describes his disgust with her funeral precedings, how he felt somewhat inadequate as her son, and basically a last bon voyage to his mother in her journey to the next life
It's a shame. When I saw them live in '06 and they did Wings for Marie/10,000, the light spectacle was absolutely breathtaking. One of the greatest things I've witnessed in my life.
Saw them in Atlanta a week ago, and sound and visually, it was the best show I've seen in 30 plus years of concerts.
I can listen to this verse all day. Such a powerful vocal performance. It seems as if he's beginning to lose his voice, however.
You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fists at the gates saying:
"I've come home now!
Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father.
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.
It's time now!
My time now!
Give me my, give me my wings!"
I watched this live.... it was ridiculous how brilliant it was
I really cant find a best song by tool
they're all so unique and great
i like them all
I always feel as if I could conquer the world in a day when they get to the "Set as I am in my ways" part.
These guys are just so insanely good live. Nice upload!

The solo is very simple yet powerful. And the drumming during the solo is really awesome.
Wings for Marie, and 10,000 days were both written by Maynard for his mother, who suffered a paralyzing stroke when he was 11.
I heard this song and wings part 1 are about Maynard's mother going to heaven. =O Amazing song in evey way, I can fall asleep to this wherever I am. Tool is the best band of all time.
just saw them in richmond a couple of months back it was amazing the sound the lights the atmosphere awesome
Man I forgot how INSANE their light show was. Cheers.
I was there somewhere in the audience, back row seats, only band I've ever seen, was a great time

perfection is the illusion of fulfillment

wow! the lights fit the song PERFECTLY!
I'm going to see these guys in Colo Springs next week, they haven't played this song at either of their stops in Colorado yet-- so I can't fucking wait to see it... It's gotta be on their set list now. Jesus what an amazing song.

OOOhh, thanks for this! I must see them live sometime.. MUST!!
I was at this show,Best band best shows hands down.

excellent quality. thank you for your contribution.
I love this song, it is so emotional. Going to see them in Manchester NH on August 2nd!
So beautiful.
Man, I traveled to UTAH the first time I saw them from California. Then I saw them here in Indio for coachella fest, then I saw them at san diego street scene, then I saw them in bakersfield (4-hour drive)
They are truly AMAZING, Live and in the Studio. Just fucking amazing!!!
Cheers,
RRKS
whenever i compare a song to a piece of art i compare it to this song since this song is a masterpiece
Jesus, Danny Carey nails this song note-for-note live! Incredible

Tool the best band in the world!
this is a great vid of a rare stage show... Ive seen em 8xs, bout a wk after this & this is by far the best "show", didnt hurt being in seats stage left cuz the floor screen was sicccccK!!! I remember the red&amber lasers so vividly,,, i actually reached out & touched one ;)

Favorite song.
Amazing bootleg video! I give you props for pulling it off. Decent audio and visual. You stood next to guys who can't sing in key too huh? It was an amazing show from an amazing band that never stops putting out great material!
My life won't be complete if I never get to see this band live. Why oh why can't they give a show in Montreal? T_T
3rd or 2nd best show iv been to, was at the dublin show. can only be tooped by their download festival preformance.
I fucking love this tune.., I'd kill a man to see Tool live.
@pebblefrog196 Thats why he refuses to play it live anymore. This piece is far too emotional for him to perform. You can hear the hesitation to even utter the next line in the song. Just goes to show that even as angry as he may be, he still has a heart, its just broken
seriusly, what we gonna do when the lights go down?
eventually, it will happens.
if you have ever been to a tool show.. you would know that recordings dont sound so great, because they play their music SO FUCKING LOUD.. tool is amazing live.. you all should be happy that someone had the balls to record it.. they are very strict with there no camera policy.
Im going to that show too.
Aye, had some mad experiences listening to this :P
I wonder what the new album will be like, they've perfected music to me, how can they get any better?
god knows what i would give to go to a tool concert
Agree. Absolutely
Just relish what you know...don't compare, don't wonder...just live it....they would not want you..any other way...wink, wink...
they bounce "it" around their metric with frightening precision
clearly, you've never seen a tool concert and heard how loud they are. he isn't fucking with the volume, it's just cutting out because the bass and music is so bloody loud
It's like a rave show..Lol. Tool is bad ass. Favorite band.

"I thought to stand there for 18 minutes with my arm in the air recording this song"
I'll say, I recorded both Rosetta and Wings.
Your video quality is defintiely one of the best i've seen, much better than mine :).
To answer your question, mine was filmed in Toronto on September 23rd.

They are going on another tour.
Of course. Chuck norrys did the illumination.

i saw them last night at the world arena, amazing fucking show.
ahh I tried to listen to the whole 10,000 days album on acid and weed and it was SO Fucking Intense.
@miller8605 That's because he's the only one writing from the heart that doesn't get turned into some American Idol spoonfed pop wonderfuck....
how packed was this place. verizon wireless arena is not big enough for a tool concert lol
Viginti Tres is latin for '23', a number of great significance throughout the history of many cultures. you (below) mention the reason is 10:13, (10+13=23), coincidence?

I was in the floor section. Great concert, but could someone tell me the purpose of these people waving their hands. There really fucking up the show for the people behind them.
oh yeah me too on the 29th in cincinatii
It's a song for his mother, I don't see why they cheer. I doubt Keenan likes it either.
For sale? No. There are several bootlegs floating around. I could send you an entire concert (this one if you want) for free. And by the way, Maynard has no problem with bootlegs, as long as you don't profit from it.. And might I suggest attending one of their concerts this summer.
@00roastedlampost00 is that why its completely panned to the right ear? its annoying!
@mattbassace what about there albumn opiate?
have these ever been in denmark hor sweeded or gemany?
yeah, this is a masterpiece, but lateralus owns any other tool record.
Try ticketmaster online the second they go on sale. Thats the only way that works. Secondly, If that fails then hit ebay afterwards. In 2006 I Went to Fred Meyers for tickets at 6am,was third in line, and all tickits were sold before I reached the counter. Tha fuckin sucked asses.

i dont know man i think bout that too. how can you write a better song than rosetta stoned or 10,000 days or even lateralus
nice compression.
