is there a possibility you might know why my camera is taking hours to connect with my phone :P ?
No actually. My connections on Either a android or IOS device have been relatively fast. It may be an issue with the type of phone or the version of phone software you are using or the firmware version of the camera. I would make sure all versions are the latest and greatest on the phone, PlayMemories and the camera. If camera and PlayMemories aren’t the latest versions there maybe a connectivity issue between and old version of one software and the new version of another software. Good luck!!

Check out app on Play Store Camoodoo. I use it with my a5100's. Has more control than the Sony app.

Mine doesn't have all those settings.
If most of the features are disabled in the remote app, it means that your camera software needs to be updated. Not the firmware itself but the "Smart Remote Control" (or "Smart Remote Embedded" as it was called in the past.

Thanks for the video Curtis! But when I connect to the camera it states that it doesn't have a network connection. So I'm able to connect it to my cell. How do I fix this?
i have down loaded the app but do not get the camera setting to appear on the iPad
The app now seems to have a new name: Imaging Edge Mobile. There is another app called PlayMemories Online, but that is the wrong one. I had to discover this by doing a search via my computer.

Can you point the focus touching a point on the smartphone?

With regards to aperture and iso and things like that yes. You can also focus remotely.

Thank you so much from Italy for this useful video. Imaging Edge Mobile (android) normally connects to my A6300 but I can see only live view, rec button, EV button, disp button and mode button. All other parameters dont'exist! Why?

Nice presentation. However, I'm not seeing all the controls on my iPad (iso, shutter speed, f/stop, etc). I downloaded the latest PlayMemories app. Does my a7r2 need to get a firmware update, or something?
I would always update the firmware if available. I recently bought a Crane 2 and the follow focus wasn’t working. Driving me nuts. I then upgraded the firmware and POOF! Everything started to work. So yes, if you haven’t already upgrade the firmware. Trucking for the comment.
Is there a way to use play mobile smart phone monitor to make video?
if you want to use it for video you can. You just have to have the camera turned to video instead of the camera. You should have a record button instead of a shutter release button. Good luck.

I tried it on my a6000, and it said the movie mode is not supported. So you can’t use PlayMemories for the movie on the a6000. If you are just wanting to start and stop it you could use a IR Remote to start and stop it. If you need a monitor you can connect one via the hdmi port on the camera. Best!!

Yes. I believe you just have to pu the camera in video mode.

Using a usb is more like a tethering solution. You would connect via usb and then use a software like capture one to control and take photos.

Hey Curtis, I did not know you had a channel. But will each image come up on Sony Play Memories after you take it and stay in a collection till you close it down? I need something I can sell headshots and stuff from like a cam ranger.
Hey Curtis, would you do a video like that fairly soon. Many people are migrating to the A7III and are asking about it, I am finding out. But my main deal is if they come up as they are shot and if we can flip through them after to look and get a frame number.

Yes I believe so. The camera needs to be set to video. I don’t have it in front of me so give it a try. I did get to work but is been a while. Best!!

How can you use these features to control video? I want to be able to push the record button from a distance rather than always putting a timer on the camera settings.
Jaleel, I was able to do this. First, put the camera in MOVIE mode on top of the camera, then start the Play Memories app on your phone and then on the camera. I got a record button on the app on my phone. Hope it works for you!!
What shooting mode are you on when using play memories? The only mode my camera lets me use the Playmemories “Live” is intelligent auto and with that, I get only zooming and 2s timer.. I don’t get all the options you get there.
Hooman T you need to change the camera mode on the camera within PlayMemories. PlayMemories sort of bypasses your normal camera settings. I don’t have it in front of me now , but PlayMemories has its own camera settings and those have to be changed. Thx!
It may also have to do with you camera. Different models may have different functionality!!
Hey Curtis! It works with my a7II, but i can't set up the camera on tmy iPhone. Nos settings are available, only the exposition correction, and the expo button.....
Is the camera in program or manual. This may make a difference.

Hello curtis, thank you for your video; however, when I tap on my PMR app on m y smartphone my camera sends a message that says "unavailable in this shotting mode. Switch to another mode" not sure which mode I am suppose to switch too ; any ideas?

Yes. The camera is making its own wifi signal.

hi curtis. Thanks for the video. When I open the app and connect to the camera to the phone (in my case a OnePlus 3) I'm able to take photos, but I can't control anything from my phone - no control of apperture, ISO, shutter. Do you have an idea why that is? I cant seem to find anything about it else where

Theoretically yes. However if I were shooting for a commercial shoot. I would use capture one and their app for the iPhone or iPad and let them review images that way. It is a more professional option. PlayMemories is not a product for professional photographers per say. Good luck. Oh and I would be tethering to the camera to a computer or laptop. Thx!

Yes, It is available on Android. If you go to the google play store, search for Playmemories, it will come up. Whether or not it is compatible with your version of Android is another story. Hope this helps!! Best to you and yours and thank you for the comment.

Hi, How do I connect the USB cord to my new Sony Vario Sonnar 30X optical lense to my Samsung tablet? No lololol, seriously, the USB cord that came with the camera doesn't fit. Nor does my tablet USB. I thought they were compatible. I use my Sony for Real Estate, Thanks Bunches!
Cathy, typically the sony connects with a Micro USB cable into the "Multi" port of the camera. The newer Cameras use both the "Multi" port and a USB c connection. I am sorry I don't know anything about your camera, but it should at least have a micro USB connection that will connect it. Good luck and thx for the comment!

Actually, you did not answer the wuestion, which was a wired tether, and got into the wiffi.
Playmemories is ONLY accessible via wifi to your phone and this video was only about PlayMemories App, not tethering. The Camera creates the wifi network and your phone joins that network. If you want to TETHER your phone, I suggest you watch my video on How To Tether The Sony A7 Series Camera. Thx for your comment!
TYPO . . . If you want to tether you CAMERA . . . NOT phone, see the other video. THere is no way to my knowledge to tether your phone to the camera.

This instruction does not really help: 1. There is no Bluetooth option on Android 2. The WIFI connection between Android and A7RIII is difficult to establish 3. Camera and Phone drag a log of battery when connected and logging 4. There are conflicts between Bluetooth and WiFi used at the same time 5. Generally, the connection is very unstable 6. For every new shooting the camera must be reconnected ... and the chance is great that the connection could not be established. In the garden it may work but not during a travel with limited access to electricity.
Ata, thank you for the comment! You are so right on many points. The Playmemories system to me is a "Your Mileage may vary" type of thing. Please keep in mind the video was done with the A7RII, Not the A7rIII which you are working with. I haven't tried it with my A7III yet as I know they have changed some things. I had no problems with the a7rii at all, but given a differeny situation, maybe I would have. Professionally I would never use Playmemories, I am always tethered by a wire. I would never trust a wireless connection when money is involved. Thx again!!

Well if it makes you feel any better, I was messing with the Panasonic app and I kid you not it will NOT work with my new iPhone. It works then loses connection. But when I connect it to a android tablet . . . No problems. Go figure. Thx for the comment.

Curtis, totally useless on Sony SLT-A99. Sony has abandoned & will make no improvement of the Sony Remote Camera Control (Sony childish software).
