Question Jason, if I use a FE mount lens on a apsc sensor like the a6500, will the auto focus be just as good as a crop emount lens?
Jason Vong I
How about Sony A7s ??..
On my 6400 I have various objects in the edges of my frame go in and out, or "breathe" as another photographer described it. Even my faces. I was using Wide so I decided to try zone. Hole this helps. I hate it when it searches all across the frame .
Hi, I am a Makeup & Hair Artist and Need to shoot lots of Videos Indoor for Instagram and CZcams and sometimes going Live with Ring-Light setup and Fill Light, so which camera will be best Suitable for my profession, Cell Phone, Osmo Action, Sony A6400, Canon 80/90D or Sony A7iii with Suitable Lenses
I keep on Shooting photos and Slow motion Videos for my portfolio, and in weddings most of the time, theirs low light condition if Indoor sometimes outdoors and I don't want that Noise in my Videos in low light. So Please Suggest any other alternatives if any.
Thanks in advance ;) keep the good job.
Just what I was looking for to solve a video focusing issue I've been having. Thank so much, Jason! :)
I am a big camera noob, Jason, and your videos are proving themselves to be SO useful ! I'm so looking forward rebranding my channel this month and starting making videos again, with my newly bought sony A6400. Thank you so so much, you're the best.
Perfect tutorial Jason. No fluff, straight to the point.
SO good Jason! Thank you!
Youre welcome
Great explanations, advice, humor, and Sony alpha cameras. Subscribed.
Thanks bro! Great tutorial. Just what I needed.
super helpful. thanks so much
Just bought my first Sony camera - a7riii. Thanks for making these tutorials, they are very helpful especially for a sony newbie. Love your videos and your quirkiness.
Thanks Mandy!
A lot of great information delivered in an enjoyable and engaging way! Thank you! :)
A long shot. . . Why does my 16-35mm EF lens hunt whenever I set autofocus, shooting video. Static shot, once it finds focus, which it does very fast, it hunts, constantly focusing and refocussing while recording, even if the nothing changes in the frame. Its driving me crazy. The only way Ive found to stop it, is to turn AF off. And that's not okay for me. Sony A73.
Did you find a solution? Same issue here!!!
Just discovered your channel now. I just picked up an a6000 a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it. Thank you for your videos, especially the one about audio solutions for the a6000
You have one of the best tutorials for the Sony A series features. Thanks! I'm still getting used to these features.
This guy deserved a like
hey brother, I got a huge problem. When I do an up and close shot on the a5100 the AF focuses on lets say a bag with 50 different things in it, WHAT the 6400 does it tries to focus on everything in the same bag. I tried zone, I tried center shot, wide, everything and I cant figure out why It doesnt do as good as focusing than the 5100 did.
Check your Autofocus Tracking and Sensitivity first. Are you having issues with the camera not focusing? or bouncing focus too much?
Thank you for an excellent tutorial once again Jason! Not enough youtubers out there covering the video aspects of these cameras. Keep them coming!
You're welcome Scott!
very useful! Thanks Jason this video is amazing!
Waiting on an A7iii to be delivered and this video was so helpful, thank you Jason!
This is very useful Jason. Thanks for that! :)
I just recently started using - switch to manual focus when I record something that wont change focus, so I dont have the background bouncing back and front...
But still some valid points here :)
Glad it helped, Mariusz!
This is actually really useful information! You have no idea how many reviews are out there where people talk about how useless the touchscreen is because they didn't know to use the different autofocus modes. This gives me another reason to go from my a6000 to a6500
Thanks man! it definitely has it's uses!
A6400 is better than the A6500 for most people
Thank you so much for this video, I found this really useful... One thing I struggled with was using touch to focus and then it not maintaining the af, so thank you, this was so useful 😀
Great Guide, thank you very much!
Thank you for the tips! love the flame monitor. Definitely buying it
Excellent video Jason! Thanks ;)
Jay!!!! Thanks man! :)
Anytime, and I did not know that face detection doesn't work when using an external monitor in 4k! That is really strange, and the fact that touch focus in wide mode switches to manual after a while.... Excellent info and please keep up the outstanding work :) I also love your funny out takes as well...
Strange right? I found out the hard way... which was after a shoot and realized half the time my face was outta focus. Philip Bloom made a mentioned of this as well.
It's happened to me many times recording videos like this, and I had to re-shoot. Frustrating for sure, because it normally works brilliantly and re-shooting a video sucks! :)
Really helpful Jason, especially your clear explanations of when to use which focus mode. Thanks ( a6500 and native lens user)
JV, you have such a happy-feely anime characteristic when you run around on the screen.
Haha, the most exercise I get tbh
Big help Jason!!! Great technique for shifting focus
Great and helpful, in very depth. Thanks, Jason.
This was such a well done and clever guide thank you
Thank you. Very helpful information for using my A7RII.
Again another great Video Jason. Blocking and Tackling, the most basic things are most important. I learned some great info on this video. Nicely done!
You're welcome!
this is my 3rd time to watch you video about focusing with Sony cameras, very helpful Jason!, thank you!.
Okay I’m slowly understanding what I’m doing now thank you again :D

Thanks for this, been messing around with different modes on my 6500 the past week or so.. I no what I'm trying out tomorrow haha
I have a Video shot from a Sony Alpha a7RII in my 4K collection and trust me it's always a pleasure to watch it each and every time 😍😍🥰🥰 I ❤Sony and Thank You Jason for your amazing insight and useful tips. ❤ from Pakistan 👍
Thank you, this was so helpful! I just got the a6400 and was confused about why touching to focus in Wide mode was converting to MF. Will have to play around more with the Flexible Spot mode. Thanks!
Best video about Focus i'e ever seen! Thanks
Awesome video dude😊✌️
Seriously great informative video, man. =)
Thanks Francisco!!
Great tips! 👍🏼
Very nice tutorial, thanks
You're the best man! Thank you!
You da man Jason, I needed a refresher and this did the trick nicely!
Dude. This is seriously such a good tutorial. I really think most people doing tutorials don't fully understand the modes themselves because they never explain when to use each. You are a life saver mate. Subscribed.
You're the best! Thanks so much for this!
Thank you for the Knowledgeable Videos, you are amazing.

Man, I have to say big thank you, I could not figure out why it has just started hunting for focus, didn’t realize it was becuase of the monitor had to donate to say thank you.
Me pareces muy profesional, tus videos y explicas muy bien
Good info...
I just discovered the focus issue with LED light behind the subject. Manual focus does eliminate it of course. I also minimized the effect if focus was set to registered face recognition. But Manual is the only sure way I could find to totally get rid of the problem. Glad you pointed this out. It needs to be a topic for a vid.
Great video
Great video keep it coming
great tutorial Jason... I should really start using these focusing modes
No problem, Andre!
Thanks for this video man! :)
That was a great tutorial Jason!🤘
This was so helpful! Thanks

Thanks Olivier!
I just bought the Ninja Blade thanks to you. I'll add some "in camera" view in my a7RII and a6300 tests and video/photo tuto :)
Great explanation Jason!
I'm experienced in photography, but making my way in the video world so I found it useful :) I normally use the flexible spot for my videos, as I don't trust the Zone AF :D
Keep it up!
i need this video. thank you Jason.
I really like your videoes Jason. Keep up the good work.
Nice Tuto thanks!
Great guide. Thanx.

You're welcome, Pilar!
Thank you. Two word that are simple to say but not said enough.
this is great -thank you
I learned a lot thank you
I have Sigma 160-600 adapted to sony and i was SERIOUSLY impressed with how well it focused during an airshow(my first shoot with it) never really had an issue except when something really close came into the focus area, i am DYING to get the sony 200-600 lens, but would be open to the sigma 60-600 if it came with native sony mount
Great vid, told me a lot! Thx!
lots of info. thanks a lot bro
I really love your videos they are funny entertaining
Thank you very much!!
Another awesome video! Does the “tap to focus” feature work in spot focus mode on the new A7iii / A7Riii or is it still just via the wheel?
Great vid thanks
Man, I just spent an hour trying to figure out why my face wasn't in focus with my new Atomos. Lol. Moving on to zone focusing like you. Hope Sony fixes this.
Chris Featherstone do you experience the same trouble when monitoring via USB port? I was recording a video, using an A7iii + sigma art 35mm, monitoring on my computer and the camera focused on the microphone I was holding. Not on my face. 😖 I have lost some hours of work. Haha I believe the A7iii has this “problem” also when monitoring via USB port.
Great video, great advices ! Thanks a lot ! Chris from France ;-)
one of the best reviews :)
