      Am I the only one who loads the file in UGS and keep getting errors while cutting? I’m not sure why. I am completely new at this but I thought I was clever enough to at least make this spoil board since all the works been done.
      Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    It took me quite a while to get everything on my PROVerXL 4030 ready to go. I watched many videos, changed out my stock spindle for a Dewalt 611 router, bought a packaged relay to start and stop the router with the software, and I went out and got a 1/4 sheet of 1/4” MDF board to make new spoil boards. This was my first carve by the way. I downloaded the G Code program that James provided along with his tutorial. I started up the machine and everything seemed to be going just fine until it got to about the 9th hole. The machined finished cutting the 9th hole and then went into alarm and stopped. I finally got the alarm cleared and when I restarted the program it went all the way back to the beginning. After it got to the 3rd or 4th hole it just stopped, no alarms or messages. Now I have very limited movement on my X and Y axis, maybe 10-15mm and the program will not restart. I am brand new to all this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Its a brilliant machine and very sturdy, but equally is a big price jump from the 3018. Essentially a lot of the cost is the fact it more or less arrives assembled apart from a few bits

    I have a problem with the hole alignment of the cutouts with those in base spoilboard. I am running the machine with settings out of the box and the alignment is progressively worse as you go along x and y axis, almost as if the step/mm parameter was not calibrated. Have you had to adjust $100-102?

    Excellent video, James. I had an interesting experience. After having cut the holes in the 1/4" MDF, I checked to see if I could see the corresponding holes in the bed underneath. Curiously, only about half were visible. In particular the holes near the front of the bed on my 4030 did not match the ones on yours. In fact, at the back (furthest) edge of the MDF bed on mine those holes (which are more numerous) seemed to be there at the back. I initially thought that the bed must have been put on backward, so I spent some time reversing it. Turns out that the holes closest to the front edge (after rotating the board) also did not match yours. I wonder if there are different versions of the MDF bed? It does look a bit different, having no bevels. Has anyone else mentioned this?

    • @JohnColgan.
      @JohnColgan. Před 3 lety

      I was going to ask James that very same question, waste having 110mm Z travel if the mounting extrusion won't let you get the spindle inside or close to anything with a 20mm high wall.
      My thoughts are to raise the extrusion eg 25mm increase height adjustment as required, lower the spindle in its mount by same amount. This should still allow limit switches to engage and limit vertical travel, but allow some depth of cut.

    • @JamesDeanDesigns

      Thats a good approach, the 3018s are great place to start but people do grow out of them. In regards to the design, yes there is a learning curve but I personally do not think its too difficult as long as you don't try and dive in at the deep end. For example starting with something like Easel is pretty easy to go from basic designs through to carving

      Unfortunately not. A planer helps level things but this process has 2 purposes. One is to flatten the bed, the other is to make it parallel to the X axis which a planer will not do... well it probably can but would be a lot more work

      For designing, its tricky. Easel and Carbide create are the popular ones but they both have draw backs. Fusion 360 is free and very powerful but equally very complex to learn. If its for running your machine then i prefer UGS
