    King's playing fields opened by HRH Shots of the Duke (he can be seen controlling his speech to eliminate his stutter) speaking and declaring the fields open. Mayor leads cheers.

    He was very brave... This must have been incredibly difficult for him, yet he was still brave enough to go ahead and give the speech

    As I myself suffer from a similar stutter I know what is going through his head during those long pauses trying to make the words come out. I’m just a teenager who has to give speeches in class or talk in front of smaller groups. I can only imagine the stress of talking to the world.

    Having the stutter and everything I feel for him and this is extremely brave and I say that truly but having to sit there and listen to him you must’ve been going crazy with all the long pauses.

    I think the movie did not do HRH King George VI justice. They made his stutter sound A LOT worse than it actually was. Yes, there were pauses, but to be perfectly honest i didn't hear a stutter. This gentleman was an inspiration to me. A true King and wartime leader. God Bless his Soul.

      It's the movie's time-line is completely wrong. Prince Albert started consulting with Lionel Logue in 1926. Yet the movie sort of takes place in 1936, at a time when Prince Albert was nearly cured.

      In real life, according to the comment above, he had already been working with Lionel Logue for four years or so when this was filmed

    The stammering isn’t bad, it’s that he can’t pronounce the letter “R”

    • @GAPC-nb7qs
      @GAPC-nb7qs Před 4 lety +16

      he also suffered rhotacism, never leant to reproduce and master the rhotic sounds as a child, this can often be confused with speech impediment but are two completely different conditions.

    Not a great natural speaker, George VI put his country and his people before himself and answered the call of duty as did his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II. And that is a key reason why we so love them.
