I wish they would stop bashing nexus 4... When this phone came out everyone was talking about what a beast of a phone it was... Now they are saying it wasn't on par with what was out already at the time...? Make up your mind reviewers.
My teammates differ on this (as with most things), but my word on the Nexus 4 has remained unchanged since its release: I've always considered it an underpowered and overrated offering. You may disagree, but I wouldn't say I've been inconsistent. ^MF
Pocketnow How was it underpowered? Snapdragon S4 Pro was at the time what most of the flagship devices were using, and 2GB of RAM on board was actually pretty unusual even in flagships - the camera is bad compared to contemporary flagships, but still better than the previous generations flagship models, you could argue the 720P screen should have been 1080 as there were a couple of devices out then that had full HD, but that's getting pretty nitpicky - especially considering phones like the Moto-X are still being released with 720p. Sure it's well behind the curve now, but at the time it was as much a beast as the Nexus 5 is now.
Matthew Sharpe I couldnt agree with you more, have all the pocketnow reviewers forgot what they were talking about when the nexus 4 came out ?? The processor was the best that was out at the time (the 600 wasnt in any phones yet) and i remember them even saying that the screen was awesome because LG was making the best screens on the market! It wasnt an underpowered or under spec'd phone at all for the time- they are just wrong with saying that- i wish i knew where they were getting that from ?
Agreed. when the nexus 4 came out it had one of the best cpu/gpu, a really good display even if not the best and it performed better than most androids in real world use. Just yesterday i was messing around with my goddaughters nexus 4 and was thinking i wouldn't mind using this now.
Pocketnow WTF, the Nexus 4 was in no way "underpowered", what a ridiculous statement. The S4 Pro was the most powerful SoC at release and still is a absolute beast at 720p. Real world performance of the Nexus 4 is arguably snappier than much newer devices, like the S4, and definitely noticeably smoother than the S4.
This review has one noticeable flaw. They call the build cheap based partially on the glossy sides on the white version and don't mention that the black version of the Nexus 5 differs in that it is all matte. It would have definitely been worth a mention.
Yeah looks nice to me, unfortunately i haven't got it yet. But I'm perfectly happy with plastic phones, in fact, I'd go so far as saying I'm done with metal phones, they're too fragile. I dropped my HTC One once and it scratched and dented. I ended up putting it in a plastic case after so what's the point. Before the One I had a Galaxy Nexus, I never used a case and dropped it a bunch of times without issue. I just think plastic makes more sense for a hand held device and the plastic used on the N5 looks about as good as you can get.
Yeah, people just got used to hearing that about Samsung and are just repeating it for everything plastic. Samsung has made phones and tablets that feel cheap cuz they actually flex in with little pressure and creek sometimes.
Umm.. I was trying to talk about you behind your back Pocketnow geez :) I'm sure you mean it, however it becomes tough to identify where the bar is set. Im not seeing any flex or give, its plastic but its solid to me. The buttons are very clicky, they don't move like the home button on Note 3 for example. IMO, I'm seeing the "cheap" bar set at plastic instead of how the plastic is used. Either way, pretty hyped you jumped in here. I enjoy watching your videos.
Woah, just saw that this comment shows and is threaded under the CZcams video for everyone to see.. that explains how Pocketnow saw this conversation. I actually just responded Dave Loft's comment on Google+. Didn't know Google+ did that.
The all black Nexus 5 doesn't have glossy plastic sides. I love my Nexus 5. Speaker volume is good & my camera takes average to slightly above average photos.
Thank you so much ...one more thing LG G2 or Xperia z1 ?? i do care a lot about updates & gaming ..sorry for asking a lot i want to buy new phone today and am confused
LEGENDARY2030 i have an G2 and i can tell you is great.Slim bezels, 3000 mha battery bigger screen then z1, OIS on the 13 mpx camera.Don't know about the xperia but i'll buy an g2, should be cheaper to, also the xda community has some great roms
the little things really count. The background shots like the train and also the turning around with the phone in your hand really makes for good presentation. keep up the good work.
its strange how you compared the camera quality of nexus 4 to 5 in your other video and showed that nexus 5's camera was way better and showed dull images of nexus 4 .. but now in this video u seem to have the same Pictures you said you had taken from nexus 4 and are presenting it as images taken from nexus 5 !! Im confused now, which one is actualy better? Nexus 4's imgae (spcly the picture with the angry bird soft toys in low light was compared to a better looking picture which you said was taken from nexus 5, But in this review the same picture you showed in prev video (of the angry bird toys) is shown here aswell... pls ans
N5 has wireless charging built in, whereas most competition don't. And if you switch to ART runtime, and review again after the Google camera software update, I'm sure the N5 will get a higher score ;)
For 349 $ with the specs and android 4.4 it's one of the best device the biggest deal breaker is battery 2300mah. Htc one still remains the best Android phone 2013 followed by note 3.
Word on the street is that the camera can be fixed in a future software update. It is a matter of optimizing the settings. Developers have already rooted the phone and installed a patch to see improved results.
I went from a GNEX to an N4 in September, then from an N4 to an N5 2 weeks ago (Thanksgiving night) and WOW! I love the phone. I got the all-black N5 and to me it doesn't feel too cheap. The soft-touch on the back FEELS AMAZING!!! I don't want to use a case now lol. Also, the 1080p is beautiful coming from the N4. Colors are very nice and warmer than the N4. The only thing is the navbar feels much bigger which can be remedied with roms. All I can say is, if you feel like you want to upgrade, go to any Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, or Best Buy/BB Mobile and play with it. You'll love it.
I got a Nexus 5 just over a week ago and i love it. i recommend this phone to anyone who wants a pure android experience, but doesn't want to be burdened by contracts and carrier bloatware.
Another awesome review by pocketnow. Although I live in ireland which is the EU HQ of Google, it's shocking that we can't order the phone from ireland even though it's been shipped from Dublin to other eu countries. That's a big suprise which doesn't have any official explanation. These really sucks
Nexus4 made me a Nexus Fan and Xperia Z1 made me an Xperia Fan, they're the best phones in the market now i think. I wish i have the Nexus5, i would root it and just mess with everything in it, software and anything else. I used to change the software of my Nexus4 in the class when i get bored while the teacher was lecturing us about Math or any other subject. I just love to do this
The reason for the fast response on the phrase "Ok Google" is because Google made the command to be "Ok Goo...." . Just try to say "Ok Goo" and it will work ! I find it very smart :)
Very respectable review Mr Fisher. The score given is fair in my opinion given the handicaps the Nexus 5 has. I hope software updates fix the issues. Great Job sir.
I would give an 8.1, the camera is the main reason. Think about it, instead of including OIS (which although is a very good addition) they could've improved the optics and the sensor over all, which would give really excellent day time photos, instead right now it is an ok daytime photo and not that good low light shots.
Michael, take a look at the black N5. I think it looks at bit more solid. I am seriously considering the N5 since my Htc Evo Lte bit the big one! Great review, keep up the good work!
Watched this on my newly delivered white 32GB nexus 5! Which is funny because when I ordered it google estimated a one month delivery time.. and I got it in less than a week!! :D
I dont understand why soft touch plastic is always being bashed and referred to as cheap feeling. Soft touch feels great and the hand and gives it a nice grip. Unlike iPhones/htcs aluminum phones and Samsung's glossy plastic, they might cost more but are slippery making it uncomfortable to hold at times.
I gave my GF the nexus 5 I ordered because i got the G2 (best phone I have ever owned). She loves everything about the nexus 5 and she likes the fact that google now is easier to access. The battery life and camera could be better, but why would anyone get the G2 if that was the case?
Funny fact: Nexus 5 costs 480 euros and Htc one costs 509, both off contract in ym country. If the Nexus 5 would cost around 300 euros, I would get that in split second, but when One costs only 30 euros more, which one should I get? I know that I would be happy with either one, but I really would like to make the right decision. =) Great review!
It's plastic, but trust me when I say that plastic is not bad. The plastic has an amazing feel and while the material is cheaper than say that of a HTC ONE, it still feels fantastic overall and doesn't feel weak or cheap at all. It's fine.
Im loving the Nexus 5 so far, ill be selling my S4 which was heaps of hype, not much in the delivery, the Nexus 5 is kickass, the price just makes it all the sweeter :)
Just ordered the 32gb black nexus 5 can't wait only thing that bugs me is why Google didn't just use a 3000mah battery I mean cone on what was the savings like a couple bucks
PLEASE do a comparison with the G2 and the Nexus 5. I could possibly get the G2 sooner but I want to know if I should do that or wait the 4 - 5 weeks for the Black Nexus 5 to leave the factory. Price isn't a factor and Ill use Cyanogenmod for the stock experience until GEL is released. I really want that bigger battery and better camera. It seems like the phone for the power user.
i loved this phone but had to take it back because no wifi calling which is a must on t-mobile, no removable battery or sd slot but otherwise this phone is awesome. runs games great and battery life was good, benchmark test was only below note 3 at the time @ $350-$400 it' the best value out there
Very good review have been waiting long for your score, however how does this phone compare with display of G2, please see if you can cover this up. Thanks
I am totally loving my black Nexus 5 the internals make up for the design although the design is really not bad why would i pay $600 for metal or in samsungs case TW right now the phobe can compete with most all high end phones on the market and the best part no waiting for oems and carriers for updates.
Great review as always Michael love the look of the Nexus 5 and the specs are unbelievable but after my poor experience with the Nexus 4 with bad phone call quality and not so great camera not sure to go get this phone or a Galaxy Note 3 anybody out there with any advice, and I know there is a big price difference between the 2 phones..!!
I enjoyed the Nexus 4 experience, especially with the affordable price. However, I recently lost mine. I'm considering buying a new phone, what should I pick? I have the option to buy a Nexus 4 (16 GB) for $250 or a Nexus 5 for $350. Is the Nexus 5 worth the extra $100 ? Is there a better option in the market?
Watching it on nexus 5 running android pie April update have to admit, till this date the phone with latest software for just basic use it social media and small games is absolutely fine!!!.
I wish they would stop bashing nexus 4... When this phone came out everyone was talking about what a beast of a phone it was... Now they are saying it wasn't on par with what was out already at the time...? Make up your mind reviewers.

There is nothing cheap about this build.. Even on the white. This phone feels solid.

The all black Nexus 5 doesn't have glossy plastic sides. I love my Nexus 5. Speaker volume is good & my camera takes average to slightly above average photos.
Is it better after the update?
2 times better stretch90
Nice. So the camera is pretty decent now? Is the speaker better?
stretch90 my speaker was fine out the box. If you compare it to the Galaxy S 4 or HTC One then yes it is still mediocre but to me it sounds good.
Cheap build? Have you seen a galaxy phone?
I just got mine in black and pshhh cheaply built this has a better feel than the high end samsungs.
Excellent review, Michael. Always informative, balanced and concised. Seems to be the trend with most PocketNow reviews.
Love the nexus 5 but I will keep my gs4
I like most of the new phones they are all great in different ways and are all really close in performance when you break them down in my opinion
alan haynes
Hi i have enough money to buy note 3 do you think i should get it ?? or wait for nexus 5 ??
LEGENDARY2030 Note 3 for sure. I received my Nexus 5 yesterday and I wish i had bought the LG G2 :(

Michael Fisher makes the best reviews.
Something to note: The Black version of the Nexus 5 has matte sides instead of glossy.

Michael Fisher never ceases to impress.. he is imo the best mobile reviewer on youtube

Htc one still remains the best Android phone 2013 followed by note 3.
Thanks so much Michael for adding the screen on time to this review! To me, that really gives out the most info on how good battery life is.
Mike does an amazing job with his reviews, and has real style to his presentations. Mike were you a journalism major, or something media related?
The video camera on the Nexus 5 produces great audio!
Absolutely love mine, I watched this video back in early December and bought it January because of you and a couple of other videos here and there!
Word on the street is that the camera can be fixed in a future software update. It is a matter of optimizing the settings. Developers have already rooted the phone and installed a patch to see improved results.
2 years later and it's still a great phone.
6 years later and it totally sucks ass, damn we've come so far from when this phone was considered a beast.
I went from a GNEX to an N4 in September, then from an N4 to an N5 2 weeks ago (Thanksgiving night) and WOW! I love the phone. I got the all-black N5 and to me it doesn't feel too cheap. I have a Matte black Nexus 5 and it is still worth it. Android 5.0.1 works amazingly on it.
Another awesome review by pocketnow. Nice review! Finally a good battery rundown. Every review of yours is better than the previous! Keep it up

Very well made video. You obviously know what you're doing. Subbed.
Sides are glossy only on the white model, on the black one they're mat!
love this dude, his intros are always top notch!
That glitch at 3:58 looked awesome
Love my Nexus 5, will get the n6 especially if it's water resistant/water proof.
Getting my black nexus 5 in three days ! Can't wait!!
It's not glossy the sides in the black model. Please do a review for the full device, not just one color. Seriously people
I was thinking the same thing when I watched that review. #fail
The reason for the fast response on the phrase "Ok Google" is because Google made the command to be "Ok Goo...." .
Just try to say "Ok Goo" and it will work !
I find it very smart :)
Rapidly becoming one of my favorite review people on youtube. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Very respectable review Mr Fisher. The score given is fair in my opinion given the handicaps the Nexus 5 has. I hope software updates fix the issues. Great Job sir.
I always love Michael Fisher's videos
That wireless charger they have in this video looks so cool
Pocketnow how is the battery/camera/display performance compared to the lg optimus g sprint?
I would give an 8.1, the camera is the main reason. You've just made my decision a lot easier thank you sir and your the best reviewer I've seen on youtube keep up the good work
getting the nexus 5!!!! Hope the battery is ok
Michael, take a look at the black N5. I think it looks at bit more solid. I am seriously considering the N5 since my Htc Evo Lte bit the big one! Great review, keep up the good work!
Liked it so much!!! Just bought my Nexus 5 16gb black, now I will have to wait 5 weeks...
Thank you for including detail in battery life especially screen on time, great review as always
Love your reviews Mike. Keep up the good work.
most honest and hence the best review of Nexus 5
Watched this on my newly delivered white 32GB nexus 5! Which is funny because when I ordered it google estimated a one month delivery time.. and I got it in less than a week!! :D
Best phone ever made 'til now.
Good review. Totally agree based on my experience with the device.
When you plugged in the headphones, is when i died from laughter.
This guy is amazing with his reviews ! Thumps up dude :)
I dont understand why soft touch plastic is always being bashed and referred to as cheap feeling. Soft touch feels great and the hand and gives it a nice grip. As always :) its a precise unbiased and a brief review. Thanks. You helped me choose Sony Xperia Z tablet (high five).
Good review, however I have read in many other reviews that the screen is not bright enough.
I will give a 8.5 if cost $699.00 keeping in mind the price of $349 I will give it a solid 20 ... Extra $350 just for better camera ? No thanks
please compare it with xperia z1...
I feel like Michael Fischer is the only reviewer at PocketNow
Here in Norway it costs 4000 NOK, which is 650 USD.
Best reviewer in tech. Thanks Michael for a very informative review of the nexus 5.
The screen on almost every Nexus 5 i have seen looks very yellow and warm. Hmm
Excellent review, thanks for that.
Thanks for watching! ^MF
Check the black version if you don't like the glossy edges of the phone.
Hey Michael! Great review(as always)!
I would like to by a wireless charger for my N5, which one do you suggest?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the in depth, user-based, review.
Cheers.
It's plastic, but trust me when I say that plastic is not bad. The plastic has an amazing feel and while the material is cheaper than say that of a HTC ONE, it still feels fantastic overall and doesn't feel weak or cheap at all. It's fine.
Awesome review Michael! I'll be sure to get this phone. Nothing better than nexus in my opinion.
Michael can you compare this to the G2?
Im loving the Nexus 5 so far, ill be selling my S4 which was heaps of hype, not much in the delivery, the Nexus 5 is kickass, the price just makes it all the sweeter :)
love it, great review and thanks for the review
Is this phone a yes for 2014?
fairly balanced review. the price makes it a bargain if you're looking for something great for a cheap price
I love this phone, the quality of sound is great, the screen is great and very responssive
Nice review, I'm loving my nexus 5
glad i ordered mine... should be here next week.
Video isn't loading :(
Just ordered the 32gb black nexus 5 can't wait only thing that bugs me is why Google didn't just use a 3000mah battery I mean cone on what was the savings like a couple bucks
why is the zzquil up there as a cheap version of a item ??
I want to buy the nexus 5 (32GB) Black but I seem to buy it...... I live in Ireland please any idea why I can't buy it
PLEASE do a comparison with the G2 and the Nexus 5. It seems like the phone for the power user.
i loved this phone but had to take it back because no wifi calling which is a must on t-mobile, no removable battery or sd slot but otherwise this phone is awesome. runs games great and battery life was good, benchmark test was only below note 3 at the time @ $350-$400 it' the best value out there
helo Michel, Would you take Nexus 5 over Lg G2, not looking on price point. Thanks
Nice review love the vocabulary choice very exquisite.
Great review, Tony Stark! Great content as always!
Very good review have been waiting long for your score, however how does this phone compare with display of G2, please see if you can cover this up. Thanks
Solid review, good job guys
the black feels much better...all in matte finish and feels really nice...
Yes the launcher is exclusive. Yes I have it on my HTC One X. What's exclusivity on Android again?
I enjoyed the Nexus 4 experience, especially with the affordable price. However, I recently lost mine. I'm considering buying a new phone, what should I pick? I have the option to buy a Nexus 4 (16 GB) for $250 or a Nexus 5 for $350. Is the Nexus 5 worth the extra $100 ? Is there a better option in the market?
How's the charge time on the TYLT?
The nexus 6 i hope will be the most special of the nexus. I hope LG take the hint of the other Nexus 6's
Watching it on nexus 5 running android pie April update have to admit, till this date the phone with latest software for just basic use it social media and small games is absolutely fine!!!.
Nexus 5 or gs4? Which one would you pick? Both on a t-mobile network
What is that wireless charger you have at 2:25
So i did the right choise buying the G2?
Get the black version. It doesn't have glossy sides.
