- As with any vacation, I had to take care of business. North Carolina was absolutely POPPING with amazing pickups, so naturally, I had to show em all off for you.

Hey that was me at game giant really nice talking to ya! Appreciate your kind words about the shop
Great meeting you!
It’s actually insane how someone can just lie online @retrorebound8887 this guy is lying my co worker is the guy you met.
Went to game giant a few months ago on vacation, they definitely have a great selection and great prices
@@conormcgregor8451lol go to his comment section from his haul video before this one where he went to cons. I commented two weeks ago the same thing. So there’s my proof and have a nice day.
Use to go to game giant almost every day. Great people and honest owner. Moved away literally this past November and miss it quite a bit.
More of this please, it's so fun to watch and it's nice to support the less corporate stores and local shops, even though i'm a UK viewer, i would never take a chance with GameStop, money should be going to places you love to shop in my eyes (i love the channel Matty)
i feel u, i wish it was easier for us to do this kinda thing over here honestly tho seems like Cex is just a better version of gamestop when it comes to this stuff
@@ilikemusic CeX isn't too bad all things considered, i've had a bad experience here or there with them but at least you almost always get the proper case with most stuff, GBA stuff is loose though
@@ilikemusicindeed
Agree
Appreciate you stopping by the game giant. Hope to see you again soon.
Used to go to Game Giant all the time when I lived in Wilmington! The guys there were always so cool and would ask what you’re playing and just had such a warm welcome
Game Giant is great, I visit every time I am down there. Cape Fear games, too!
Yep, great spots. Will definitely come visit those again.
I saw North Carolina in the thumbnail so I clicked. I heard you say Wilmington North Carolina and I screeched. That's my hometown baby! I've been to Game Giant several times. Great prices and good people!
The back compatibility argument is exactly why I've started buying for PS3 and PS1 again. There's games I've seen go up in price in real time like Infamous going from like $4 to $15ish.
PS2 hat is 🔥 bro
15:39 HUH? playstation better chance of back compat?? there’s literally like 500 xbox 360 games that are back compat on series x
Im with you on this one at the very least ff13 is on the xbox while on psn it isnt😡
He means moving forward PlayStation have a program of bringing back older games, whilst for Xbox that has kind of stopped
I live in Wilmington, great to see Game Giant getting some recognition!
Wow thanks for the video! I’m 2 hrs from Game Giant .. I’ll have to check them out next time I’m down there.
I love these type of videos
Thank you!
I love the Last Ronin too, I believe there’s gonna be an R-rated live action movie of that story, I’m excited to see more versions of the TMNT getting love in the public eye
Wish I had somewhere to buy older hidden gems. Love these videos
I live near Charlotte in NC so I usually go to stores in this area, I guess I’ve been sleeping on Wilmington. Glad you had a good time in North Cackalacky.
I know of Video Game World, but any other places worth checking out?
Hope you're excited for the new Micro Center!
@@FabuBrik if you live in charlotte you should check out gamers ally in Gastonia i go there time to time
Love the last Ronin comics ❤
My guy was on his Square Enix flow with this haul. I love it.
Oh snap, Matty. You were down here and didn't even get in touch?! /s Happy you had a great time vacationing. All my best.
I always go to Game Giant on vacation! We usually go to Topsail Beach for vacation and it’s really close to Wilmington.
The best way I found to identify repro covers is to feel the back of the cover art. If it feels rough that's printer paper, if it's smooth it's legit. This probably isn't foolproof but it's what I got.
Just wanted to say, really like your setup you have in the background of your video
Pulling on my heart strings with the Vita commercial. I love that darn thing.
I have the same hat found it at goodwill mines was crushed too but I fixed it by washing it, stuffing it with a towel, and hair spraying the crown and letting it dry for a day lol
PSA Concerning the spine stickers - If you apply goo gone with a q-tip directly onto just the stickers and let it sit for 40 minutes, you will be able to peel off the sticker without affecting the spine. It's important to not try removing it any sooner though as some of the adhesive on the sticker may not be affected by the goo gone yet. I have tried this process on all different types of spine artwork and even the flimsier ones held up wonderfully. One thing to note, however, depending on the sticker and how long it's been on there, it may leave the artwork where the sticker was a bit discolored (from the sticker, not the goo gone). HOWEVER, it is still way better to look at than with the sticker on it. Hope this helps someone.
I went to Game Giant 5 years ago. Also big ups to Maddy for visiting my state
love seeing my state being shined! i live along the beach so i love this!
Wilmywood be bussin frfr ong. Good pickups!
I got my PlayStation TV from Game Giant in January! Actually moving to Wilmington here soon, and was there last weekend to sign on a house. Small world, wow.
An arrest-able offense lol very true
12:45 I work at Microsoft in Games publishing, and specifically I worked on retiring the Xbox 360 platform.
I agree that you will likely see 360 games increase in price in the near future, as you will no longer be able to purchase non-back compatible games on the 360 after July.
You will be able to play them indefinitely however, as the license will continue to work.
So when you mentioned the the reproduction art, we do go out of our way to make sure people know that the case they've picked up has repro art, as well as we make sure to price the as disc alone. My idea was to at least be able to put the discs into a nice case so that even though the art is printed, it at least still looks good on a shelf. Sorry for making the art TOO good though. :P
Glad you enjoyed my home state! The central part of the state also has some amazing retro game shops. Hopefully you will get to come out towards Charlotte, Raleigh, and Winston Salem next time in you find yourself down this way.
Not sure if it's still active, but Cape Fear Games was actually involved in a multi-year estate sale for a former Microsoft employee that included tons of video games - it's held in a warehouse adjacent to their store and you have to request and pay a small fee to access and browse through. They started selling it in 2019 and as of 2021, they had barely made a dent in it. Maybe they're through it all? Worth checking next time anyone is in the Wilmington area.
Yessss, some Soul Reaver! God I wish they'd give us a remaster of those 😮💨
picked up a complete copy of gotcha force for way under value because it had the sticker on the spine. Some heat and time took it off.
Imagine if birth by sleep and 358 were home console games with legit graphics and gameplay
Gaming generations in the Midwest is really good too. Very organized and very professional. Lots of options to pick from!
That Persona music was hittin in the beginning of the vid!
Wish the Dreamcast cases were easy to replace in PAL. They had unique cases here and the hinges broke so easily.
i live in Raleigh. the greater triangle area has several retro stores some are over priced but some of the new ones popping up are thriving do to different business approaches and man do they have good prices. i wish you could have driven through raleigh out to greensboro you could stop at so many great stores
if you go to Raleigh NC then go to a video game store named hidden block. my favorite video game store!
Picked up ATV Offroad Fury 1 & 2 for my PS2 recently at PAX East, those games I dumped so much time into them. Also their soundtracks are amazing and so nostalgic!
Theres a cool shop here with tons and tons of retro stuff. Only thing is they dont clean anything
Nightcaster is such a hidden gem and I didn’t know there was a second one
Went to college in Wilmington, they have an amazing retro scene!
My sister lived in NC in 2002 when I visited (Fayetteville area). We hit up many pawn shops ... where I picked up a near mint Starflight 1 for MS-DOS for $5. :D
I live in Raleigh. Need to check these stores out
I live in NC! Would have been cool to do a low key meet up, maybe next time!
You should show us more of your comic book/anime/figures finds. I really enjoyed that.
You can pickup brand new cd cases at office depot/office max for cheap. I collect CDs and alot of the time the cases are messed up so less than 10$ for 10 cases is a great price. And used one on a Dreamcast game and its insane how much nicer a new jewel case makes a cd or game
Matty you gotta come to LA (san fernando valley) we have like 4-5 retro stores all within 15 miles of each other
I'm a stickler for the little warranty cards and extra inclusions a proper CIB game would have. Some sellers out there will advertise CIB but they in fact mean cart in box. Gotta have it all. CT has some stores around me but nothing I'd call truly out of this world.
Love the channel, I’ve got an extra bedroom in the house I want to make into an office/game collection room
Hi Matty great video! If you're ever in South Central PA it would be awesome for you to visit my brothers and I's store, Spanky's Loot Stash. We are a full game store in an antique mall.
We also have other competition in the area like Slave to the Game which also has a great store
I wish we had awesome video game small shops like this here.. all we have left seems to be game exchange & GameStop 💀 lol
Local retro game/card/etc stores are the BEST. The people who run them are always INCREDIBLY nice and almost never feel like they're totally ripping you off.
There's one about an hour or so away from me that I go to whenever I can, found copies of Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (part of the Shin Megami Tensei series) BRAND NEW AND STILL SEALED for pretty damn cheap!
Man you put me back with night caster reveal! I didn't get far with it either but it was another RPG on the system that I played after fable so I took what I could get lol
Yo mad respect to you Matty for using the Starforce theme cause I grew up on that shit like you did and I especially loved the Starforce series
These are my favorite videos 🎉
You should've gone to the Limited Run Store in Raleigh! Its amazing!
I was in North Carolina for treatment for my eating disorder 3 years ago, and while I was in treatment I was able to go out and find tons of games at some great spots!
Thanks for showing us 😅💋
Hell yeah Last Ronin was awesome can’t wait to see where Last Ronin II goes
I love Cape Fear Games! I’ve ordered many cards from them on TCG Player.
Its been a long while since I have not recognised a game even vaguely from xbox/ps2 era onwards, but Nightcaster was that game, completely unaware it existed.
Probably shouldn't have mentioned the spot but if you're ever in the Los Angeles area specifically South LA near koreatown there's this place called "world 8. " They appear on Google if you search it up. They also recently opened another little shop in the little Tokyo area and downtown LA. In the little Tokyo shopping center, they also have a world 8-2 store. Another great thing about them is they also have a website where you can check their inventory. So...yeah I dunno just a cute little heads up. 🎮
Just be mindful of disc rot. Already a ton of my collection from SegaCD era are succumbing. 30 years seems to be the average before it begins.
I live in Wilmington and ive been going to Game Giant for like 20 years, place is great
Cool stuff!
“I’m on vacation, I can’t splash too hard…” *drops $400+ on video games 😂
Do a road trip to TN next! I'm originally from Fayetteville NC, about an hour and a half away from Wilmington. But I never got the chance to go while I lived there
I went to university in Wilmington game giant is right outside the university. There used to be another store that sold games that is called yellow dog disc but now seems to focus on music. It was the oddest thing hearing about a place I lived on CZcams.
Absolutely love the Vita love !!!
One of my all-time favorite games that I played was Starlancer for the Dreamcast. I was 13 or 14 and just absolutely loved it. If you haven't played, can you give it a try.
My family lives in Wilmington. I'll definitely stop by Game Giant the next time I'm in town. I live on the Outer Banks. If you're ever out this way, stop by Super Galactic. They have great prices!
Yoo i like wilmington! Im from the carolinas. Sadly no retro game shops where i live and wilmington is far
If you come to western NY near Rochester I’ll bring you around to all the game stores
I managed to get a sealed copy of Pirates Carnival for about 25 bucks Canadian on Ebay, it's a shame later games stopped having the seal at the top with the PS logo on it
Got a used copy of Sonic Adventure 1 for Dreamcast back when Gamestop/EB Games was Electronics Boutique and Dreamcast had only been released for a year or so.. Got a copy with a scratch that made the game unplayable. Had to return it and thankfully they had ONE other copy which looked to be in rougher shape but it worked. Definitely my favorite Sonic game. Scored Phantasy Star Online too. LOVED that game. I Eventually moved away and gave my close friend my Sega Genesis, Game Gear & Dreamcast. Dumbest thing I've ever done. A VERY close second was selling my CIB copy of Obscure (PS2) to EB Games for $13 in like 2006.. Thought that was a score considering they usually only paid like .50 for a game.. It's now worth like $400+ CIB. SMH.
Dissida is by far my favorite psp game that and final fantasy tactics war of the lions you should definitely try it
I bought clock tower 3 for $12 a decade ago and gamestop put a sticker on the cover art
If you ever play Legacy of Kain just know that some of the games built upon the other games and some not. Its fine to play Soul Reaver 1 > 2 > Defiance for an awesome experience. You could also add Blood Omen 1 in the beginning, if you want to experience some of the stuff that comes up every now and then in the other games. Blood Omen 2 isnt really needed, the only thing it did was introduce the enemy race, which isnt really all that needed. Just dont try to skip SR1 or 2....
The funny thing about the backwords compatability talk is an xbox one and series can play most games going all the way back to xbox. how far back can the ps4 and ps5 go again with out streaming?
Well damn that's my spot🤣🤣🤣
Lego Marvel was so good......Lumines is really fun
I know this is kinda besides the point of the video, but that PS2 hat is fire 🔥
Matty i got the same last ronin figure haha super cool pick ups
19:20 exactly
Random but does anyone know where I can get those rotating game shelves
God i wish there was a good retro game store near me but the closest is over 4 hours away. So i guess I'm sticking to online shops only
A local store near be sells games with reprinted covers that are so high quality that its very hard to tell the difference. The easily way to tell is that the games with reprinted covers usually don't come with manuals like 99% of the time. I feel its disingenuous borderline dishonest, especially when the owner wont even admit it, but everyone knows it. I avoid this store at all costs.
At game giant we try to remember to write repro cover where the price tag is, but if it’s not we will tell the customer when they come up to counter to make the purchase.
Wait! I'm from Rhode Island! where do you do your retro game shopping out here?
Also keep in mind that the Xbox 360 store is shutting down July 29th of this year. So games will definitely jump in price after then
Wish blockbuster and Video ezy gets relieved and Redeemed. Streaming is a disaster owning copy of games is the future and makes.me feel like a kid again ❤
Did you find the neptunia rebirth series? Its a rpg game and its my favorite rpg it really is good you might like it!
15:12 I literally said that today. I'm currently playing A Crack In Time
15:34 Size matters isn't a top tier r&c game but I like it
Probably the best armor in the whole series
Anyone remember the army men franchise from 3DO?
I think i saw the first store in a different video not long ago
Someone showed up in my feed and tried to collect pokemon games and was on this store
How do people find these game stores? I swear i try finding them when im in a new town, but anytime i look up game stores its the sane gamestops and wakmwrts and stuff
Shoutout NC! I’m from Jacksonville
