Tamil is itself a universal classical language..The greatness of TMS has been underestimated.. SPB and Yesudas are nothing before TMS ..TIRUKURAL IS IN TAMIL..ITS IS UNIVERSAL..SIMILARLY TMS TAMIL SONGS HAVE UNIVERSAL APPEAL THERE IS NOTHING HE NEEDED TO PROVE IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE

Some of us are strange...........and compare one to one another. Each of them are unique and has different qualities which are not comparable. In summary these are the people who have cheered all of us with their sensational songs and God's gift talent.

No one can be compared with TMS. SPB, KJY are nothing before TMS. They dont have variations like TMS. TMS is the greatest singer ever.

TMS too was booed often.Further MGR fans booed him when he sang Sivaji songs and vice versa. It is well known that TMS was rejected by many Music Composers when he was trying to enter film industry.Introduced in 1947, it took another 6 years for him really get a breakthrough when G.Ramanathan decided to really launch him in Thookuth Thooki. His singing had flaws and he did have the voice cracking and going out of control too. But, he was best at characterization.

Just because TMS chose film industry doesnt make him any less singer. Please do more research on TMS songs from the 50s where he did pure classical based film songs. Please dont say tht his voice cracks at high pitch , you can ask any music director who they reckon hit the highest note at ease. FYI , once Yesudas was booed in Telichery, Kerala when his voice cracked attempting "Pattum nane". Hope you know that SPB used to be the worst when it came to high pitch. No hard feelings.

Yes.He was the voice of Tamil Nadu in the Tamil Film World.
But he could not have been called a flawless singer. He could never maintain his voice uniformly when changing pitch. Also his voice cracks. He was never recognized in the authoritative carnatic music world like Seerghazhi Govindarajan, P.Balamurali Krishna or K.J.Yesudas.
But he had other assets. He could sing very lively. He was very good at charactrization and showed versatility in singing styles within a limited range.

Sir, you have mistaken for high note for crack in his voice. If you listen to all karnatic singers Carefully you will see crack when they attain high notes, Why his voice cracks he start the song in above medium notes and touch High notes. this is the reason. Please do not degrade him by comparing him with other great singers. It is not fair.

Eight different 'feelings' called 'meypAdu' have been categorized in Tamil by Tolkaapiyar. In Skt Natya Sastra calls it later as rasas. TMS is the only singer who could convey all the eight effortlessly. Many other singers especially non-native singers, however sweet and good, could not do it all. That is TMS's greatness. For example, perumitham is conveyed by 'achcham enpathu madamaiyAda'.. Even a coward will become courageous after listening that song... He can cover pathos to sringara (romance) easily...A mastery over the lyric and composition is needed to express the feeling in the song. TMS can act as the great Siththar Pattinathar and sing as well. All the other singers who are brought in for comparsion will become pale in front of TMSs achievements in any area you may pick...

Ghantasala, A.M.Rajah, P.B.Srinivas, Seerghazhi Govindarajan, Loganathan, K.J.Yesudas, P.Jeyachandreventually the singeran and S.P.Balasubramaniam during their times were nothing less than TMS.
K.J.Yesudas and S.B.Balasubramaniam were the singers who eventually sang most number of songs.TMS was basically for Tamil films only, he did not have the universal appeal like the others mentioned above.

Please do not generalize and degrade all the carnatic singers now just to justify the drawback of T.M.S. Most unfair. Many singers, carnatic or otherwise, did not have this drawback.
