    The decibel meter is actually called an "SPL" meter. It measures sound pressure in a given volume of space. If the volume of space is changed i.e. big garage door open. Then your reading will change because of the change in volume. One other thing, the frequency will affect the decibel reading as well. Placement of the meter in a more consistent area would give you better readings. Try a placing the SPL meter on a tripod directly behind the exhaust 1-2M's away. That way the wall behind the car wont affect the decibel reading as much.

    The sound of horsepower in the morning. Such an intoxicating noises. I was wondering if the whine from the dyno roller was affecting the decibel reading.

    People still overlook Vortech today and I do see why as they simply don't have the range of blowers as Procharger. The YSI has almost the same air flow chart as an F1R but a little more in the midrange. The step up ratio for Vortech is the real Achilles heel and makes pulley changes rough and you can't simply add a lb or delete a lb like Procharger. When I was growing up Vortech was the boss so there's just nostalgia for me with Vortech and they make big power.

    Think of sound like a drop of water in a still body of water. The more it travels the more it dissipates. So while there may not be a noticeable difference to the naked ear there is a variation in the decibel level.

    Notification gang! I don't know how you guys put up with people buying their own used shit. I would straight up tell people NO to bringing their own crap into the shop I feel like its always wrong or junk and makes you spend more time on something that you shouldn't have had to if they let you guys order what you needed too. All to save what $100 ?!

      I've purchased multiple parts, used, and given it to my mechanics to install, and it's worked out excellently. Research the part you're buying, ask the right questions.
      And it saves a little money but it's more about "hey this part is on back order for 6 weeks" versus having it in my hand

    Decibel meters register the wave of the sound! That's y they use them in bass contests. The higher the pitch the lower the force to the meter. It's a meter not a human ear. Most cars these days have a much more rasping pitch then a real deep grumble! Just refer to bass comps it see how high them wall breakers register

    That 438whp on the stock LS7 was pretty damn respectable for a 2007 car with 47,000+ miles on it. That's just over a 13% drivetrain loss. Not bad at all. I would have expected closer to 15% lost over the years with age, ethanol, wear, etc.. My 2010 put down 657whp so I guess I'm going to need to adjust my "guess-timated crank horsepower" down a bit. ;-) I was surprised that last Z06 only gained 136whp and 83lbs/ft with a supercharger, pump and meth. I definitely expected waaaay more from that combo. * Head Scratch *

      As stated in the bottom it’s on only 6 lbs and left super conservative.

      Sorry, watched the post on my phone. I still don't see it written anywhere so I must have missed when they said it. Why would someone go with meth injection and such a conservative boost level? Why not skip the meth and dial up the boost to 10-12lbs.? Is it just to keep wear to a minimum? I only ask because I'm not super-happy with my current setup (under 5,000rpm it drives almost stock) and live too far away to stop by and pick your brains. Cheers.

    I dont know jack about decibibonalimatnators but my brothers straightpiped ls1 fbody lost to a "decibel" competition to a little honda prelude. I think its got more to do with pitch, than loudest sound in general. Fuck science man

    a 3 dB increase in power is a double in volume:
    3 dB = twice the power (Power respectively intensity - mostly calculated)
    6 dB = twice the amplitude (Voltage respectively sound pressure - mostly measured)

    I used to own a G8 GT. I sold it because of those junk lifters. They are a HUGE problem on the L76’s. Anyone with a G8 GT knows they have a ticking time bomb. (Unless they fix it proactively)

      I had one too and RPM did the exhaust and tune on it. 370/370 at the wheels. I started having lifter issues but could have had it fixed under warranty. Should have never sold that car.

      Lokyr00 : I’m actually happy you sold it. Even if the dealer “fixes” it, they still put the same old junk lifters back in it. The only way to truly fix it is to swap out the lifters completely. While you’re at that point you should do heads/cam.

    Are there any concerns of rod/rod bearing failure on the LS7s? They seem to be more prevalent than the valve guide issue.

      No. 100% not even close to as common as valves. Maybe 50:1

      @@RaceProvenMotorsports i never said it was the internet,im surprise because im wanting to build my 2015 z28 to 1000whp and i was quoted 35k because i needed an lsx block in order to do so because the ls7 block was too weak for that hp,few shops told me that after 750 whp your playing with fire.

      800 and 1,000 are very different, it’s all about how that power is made. This 5-6 psi a stock piston with moderate timing isn’t going to hurt. Trying to make 1,000 whp on a stock bottom end ls7 means a lot more boost that is not safe. There is no one HP number that’s safe or not safe it’s about many factors.

I just sent my stick heads to fix the head problem issue and upgraded the cam with stage 2 and upgraded the rocker bearing with the trunions and hope it makes some power, but I would want to get that set up done by y’all here soon, need a price on something like that

    One thing I don't understand with the Next Generation ZO6 why did they have to put a supercharger in it for 650 horsepower why couldn't you just put a bigger engine in it when 8 liter engine or even with a 7 liter engine that should be able to put out 650 fairly easily they wanted to from the factory I don't like superchargers I think they cut down the lifespan of an engine that's the reason why I bought a C6 ZO6 no supercharger if someone can answer this question please hit me back
