Microsoft Word Tutorials
Within all my tutorials I aim to help you develop your skills working within Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well as further your knowledge about the tools which are available within the Microsoft Office Software.
Throughout this channel I aim to cover simple subjects such as page numbers, margins, headers and footers, image, pictures and fonts as well as more advanced themes such as tables, mail merge, table of contents and electronic signatures.
Sharing tips and tricks which I discover along my journey is also an important aspect of this channel. I love the idea of giving people the solution to a problem they’ve been struggling with in Microsoft Word, Excel or Powerpoint.
The channel began all because of a problem I had when I had to insert images into a Word Document. I couldn’t find a way to drag and drop multiple images into a table without them expanding across the page, being cropped or interfering with the rest of the text. It wasn’t until I finally sat down one day, determined to find the solution and developed a way to solve the problem. Having found the problem quite difficult to solve without knowing how to do it I decided to make a You Tube video about it. Never once believing that many people would watch it, let alone be so grateful.
After discovering how helpful a simple tutorial could be I decided to make further videos with the aim of once again helping as many people as possible.

This is the most helpful video I’ve watched! You showed every step. I spent hours at work trying to create a form similar to this and I was drawing my own tables and had formatting issues up the wazoo. And I’d never even thought of using text boxes to move stuff around! I’d always tried just using tabs and lining stuff up. God bless you for sharing your knowledge with people for free. This video was exactly what I needed!!!
Thank you for your wonderful comment and I'm really glad it helped you :))
Can i do this in excel?
Yea - I finally did it, I created my purchase receipt and saved it as a template and created a folder to put it in and have easy access too . THANK YOU !!
That's brilliant, well done you. So glad it all helped.
This is amazing. Thank you. I'm doing a project for a class in college and part of the course curriculum is to make a job application form. This is exactly what I was looking for!!!!
Brilliant. I'm so glad it helped. Good luck with the project.
Thank you for the video. This is very complicated and requires a lot of time. Try using Content Control (under the Developer tab - you'll have to turn it ON first) to create Yes/No and fillable boxes in seconds. But above all, you will be able to lock all the other text on the page and only allow a person to fill in where you want their input.
How do you turn it on on windows on MacBook?
@@katelynboeppler4913 I provided a link here, but it was removed. Please run a search about Content Control for Mac and you'll find a few great explanations and instructions on how to make it happen.
This comment is FANTASTIC. thank you!
Thank you. Solved all the problems I've been having with forms.
Awesome.
I learned a lot from watching this video. Thank you so much. I do have a question. Is there any way of creating fillable forms where after creating the document, it won't shift or move the document down...like filling in a PDF Form? I've tried using the Developer and restrict editing, but the form still moves. I'm trying to create these forms without converting it into a PDF Form.
Great video, many thanks. Covered all the bases at a user-friendly pace. Very much appreciated.
This is generally excellent, thanks very much. A practical example, with great detail. Only minor criticism I'd make is that there is some duplication in the latter stages, making an already long video a little too long. I am starting a new job soon, in which I will be creating forms, I'll be copying the ideas here and using tables and text boxes.
Felt like a pro working in an office after i learnt serveral things from this video💅🏾🖋Thank u Lisa👍🏻
You are so welcome!
Appreciate your training. Solved many unanswered questions I never seem to have the time to figure out as a part-timer. Would appreciate development and design for self-study lesson training e-docs, mentor eguide, and learning ejournal.
Hi, I would have used CTRL +D to duplicate the tick boxes, rather than CTrL +C, then CTRL +V. Find it quicker. I thought this was going to be on how to create a form in which the curser automatically goes to the next text entry field, but found it more about an indepth tables exercise. Well described though!
I used the development tab to insert usable check boxes. And if you want to protect your form but allow some fields to be changed, I could do that with the dev tab too.
Please explain and what version of word are you using? I did this at work a few years back but cant find it in my personal office 365 developer tab ! CNF1219@gmail.com Thanks Christine
Lisa, I figured out my problem with grids.
Great! well explained and so helpful to finally be able to understand it and create my own version. Fantastic and Thank You so much! Cheers!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Did I miss the part of how to lock the form and only be able to write on the specified boxes?
This element was not mentioned but like you its the bit i wanted to know.
Why not use the 'Developer' tab with the form options and then insert drop down menus into your form.
L
Right? I was looking for that and just wasted 30 min of my life watching this!
Is there a video on how to use the Developer Tab to do this? Any recommendations?

Thank you so much for this, it really helped me in my college assignments
You're so welcome!
Thank you Lisa! Very Helpful! Please do more.
Rehearsing another video today for upload tomorrow.
Super helpful on my first fillable-form attempt. Thanks!
Just wanna say you that "i love you"

Very helpful, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you......!
Thanks to your video. I have checked off one of the To Do's I wanted to complete during this pandemic.
That's great news. Well Done!
Hi Lisa, as Promised I gave your site a mention on my new web channel. I even left a link in the comments section below. Thanks for posting a great channel, Joseph.
Thank you Joe. That's really kind of you. I hope you have every success with your channel. I've become a subscriber.
I learned a lot in this video, I feel I have to pay you for it ;) great work thanks so much and thumbs up + favorite
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Lisa, thank you very much for the video!
I have a question regarding the Word programmer in the Text Type form field, it is possible to modify and increase the number of characters in "Expression", when the type is selected in "Calculation".
I need to execute an expression with more characters than is allowed.
Thank you!
Awesome. I love your step by step explanations. God bless you. And bless me to be like this
That's a really lovely comment, thank you.
My attention was sparked by your last post !!
Furthermore, I thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with this collection of Microsoft Word form-building techniques.
It's really worth watching, and it helped me progress in my learning because I'm a beginner.
I wish you the best of !! :)
Thank you for your wonderful comment. I'm glad the tutorials are helping :)
Looks great! Thank you. I'll be sure to consult this video whenever I make forms in the future. The form looked very professional!
Thank you :)
Lisa thank you so very much! A question that I have scoured the comments for in this and others of your videos, is how to save the document with fillable fields in a way that a person can fill in the fields, but not be free to move other elements of the document. Perhaps I missed it? In another video you speak of using the "Developer" to lock in place, but that seemed to lock even the fields. I'd appreciate your help. Thanks.
I never recommend to reduce the left margin too much, since people may want to print the form later on and punch it for filing. I always prefer to leave a margin of 0.8" for that purpose
Nice video. Couple questions. Which do you prefer for custom formatting, tables or text boxes? Also, for the checkboxes in the form, how do you limit what types of values to display there, e.g. Checkmark symbol or blank only??
Thanks for the comment. I prefer tables as they're versatile but keep things aligned and organised. This video should help with the second question:-

A nice common sense guide and exactly what I needed..thank you very much..great vid !
Glad it helped
Thank you Lisa
Wow! This was an amazing tutorial. Thank you.
I do have a question though. My clients will access their form from my website and once they fill it in, I want them to be able to click on a Submit button that will send the form back to my email address.
Is it possible to be able to do this in Word?
Hi Maureen. Thank you for your comment and question. I believe the submit button will have to be added through your website via a plugin or app. The word doc will only create the form.
Excellent video Lisa. Very comprehensive. I just have another observation. When I paste an object, say a rectangle in a cell, the object at on end has an icon of 'anchor' and at the other end another icon which gives various settings like'In line with text' , 'In front of text' etc. The setting of that rectangle thus is not as easy as your square symbols because of that anchor icon. Moreover, a part of that rectangle is not visible in print preview either. Any suggestions, please? Thanks
Select the object, right click, Wrap text, Above text. Try that.
@@LisaDoe Problem solved. Thanks a lot
So very helpful!!
This is great. Is there any way that the data from the fillable can be transferred to a database? I'm using it as an athlete sign in sheet and would like to not have to save or print each individual form.
This was very helpful. Thank you so much ❤
A pleasure :)
Hello Lisa, I like your video content and explanation. I have a request for you..could you please make a video on how to create an acting application form using word. Thanks in advance.
Yes I can
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks so much for your videos! I've watched a few now as I'm trying to get my department more electronic. I'm wondering about getting the text to wrap in the boxes rather than stay on one line and get smaller. I know you can add a few hard returns to make a box larger, or the height adjustment, but when I type in the box all typing is on one line and won't wrap. In some cases it gets smaller and some it just disappears off the page. In still others it makes the boxes on the same row shrink to try to accommodate the longer text. So frustrating!
Right click in the table cell and go to 'format cells' within a dialogue box it should have 'wrap text' within the cell.
Thank you. I’ll keep looking but on my PC I’m not seeing that option.
thankyou for the video
it really helped.
thanks a lot, solved my problem in making a job card for aircraft component maintenance
Fantastic. I love to know how people have used the forms.
Thanks for the video. I only have two questions. What format do you save it in to be editable? And will your customers be able to put a check in the boxes?
This is just a printable fillable form. For online forms you will need this video:-
czcams.com/video/u9ma5emXKK4/video.html
That would be better if you can use developer mode to add controls(plain text, drop down list, check box etc).
This video was so very helpful! Thank you! 😁
Glad it was helpful! :)
Word is not a tool I would pick for making forms (or much of anything else), but sometimes I have to work with what the customer has. Thanks. Looks like I need to figure out the Developer tab to restrict editing labels.
What would you have suggested to be used to create forms, can you please share with us.
Thanks
If you figure out how to protect the document from editing while still making it fillable, please share ! cnf1219@GMAIL.COM What version are you using in Word as well.
I did watch how you did it in the video but couldn't seem to find the icon to click to "disappear" it. I'll try again. Thanks for replying.
Thank you Lisa, this was an excellent tutorial. How is the form saved to ensure it's editable?
This generally a form for printing and completing but you can make it digital with this video:-
czcams.com/video/u9ma5emXKK4/video.html
Thank you for the training. I have merged the cells in a row to permit the user to type in the cell. I need the user to be able to add as much info in the cell as needed and for the cell to continue to move down to accomadate the text. When I type in the cell, all the other cells on the form move also. How do I stop this. Thanks
This is the best video I've seen on how to create a form. Wonderful work!
Lisa thanks for this, your explanation was so easy to follow, is it possible to adjust the size of two cell in excel without using the merge cell option? just the way u highlighted two cells in word and adjusted the width by dragging the center border without affecting the center border of the next row.
I'm not sure, but I know this you tuber can help - czcams.com/users/SimplyExcelVideos

Thank you for this tutorial. I have completed the fillable form, and saved it as a PDF. Unfortunately, it does not recognize the boxes as checkboxes. If I try and insert a checkbox in Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020, the box is too large for my fillable form (my lines are too close together for it to fit) and my form is unfillable because the new checkboxes are on top of each other. How can I fix this?
That's because this video is all about a printable form and not an electronic form.
This is the video you need : czcams.com/video/ZCYnsG3KeYc/video.html
Super informative and a lovely voice to boot.
Thank you.
Thank you for this. I have one question. How can you make it a double sided document for example details on the front and terms and conditions on the back. Thank you 😊
Just create a second page with the T & C's on and then just print it on the back :)
When you insert the boxes you must tick" yes" or "no", how do you get the mouse to apply a tick in the relevant box and how can you get it to only accept one, so you don't have them click yes AND no? also, how do you set it up so only the areas you want the client to answer can be addressed and your info, such as the address box, criminal record, etc can't be altered by the client? I have been struggling with word for years, thanks for your presentation.
This video explains everything
czcams.com/video/u9ma5emXKK4/video.html
Hi, can you save this form in a PDF format will a client still be able to fill the form out?
Yes, but you will have to create the fields in Adobe Acrobat. I have a video coming out shortly - I've just finished recording it.
Omg!! You are amazing. I have a quick question. How do you lock a cell from resizing when you type inside it? I can’t figure it out. I want the cell to stay the same size as I type inside it.
How do put a tick or an x in the small boxes using your keyboard? When I try on my form it puts it at the side of the box.
I’m having the same trouble. I want to type / out a tick in the box but it doesn’t appear in the box
Thank you, so helpful !
Glad it was helpful!
Can you lock/protect the form so no one can make adjustments to the template while answering the questions? Can you make it so the user hits the tab key to move to the next question? Is there a way to make the check boxes like a radio button and if the user selects the checkbox, it enters "X" ? Can you add signature lines or be able to share it to obtain signatures? Thank you!
Hi, yes - all your questions are answered in this video - czcams.com/video/u9ma5emXKK4/video.html
thanks a lot Ma Lisa this video was so informative.... i owe you a billion lol... thanks a lot
You're so welcome! Really glad it helped.
@@LisaDoe thanks a lot I was able to prepare a handover note for my office. Am so grateful... thanks for this classic video
7 minutes into this tutorial you demonstrate how to move the text position within a cell in the table. My tools show the same 3x3 array of 9 options but they only move test left center or right on the bottom. I can choose top left, top center, or top right but the test remains on the bottom. Ideas?
Have you accidentally added a return key at the top of the cell? Are you cell margins at the top too high?
Can these be filled out on a pc without everything moving around, so we can use them for enquiries whilst on a phone call?
Yes, absolutely. Just make sure you set it up correctly and fix the cell dimensions.
Thank you sooooo much for sharing such a nice video. Love you!
Thank you.
Great tutorial, question: how do I save this form so that only the fillable bits can be edited? Probably a daft question, but I have tried to create a standard educational certificate that has some fillable fields and check boxes but it does not save as a form. What on earth am I doing wrong? thank you again
I think this is the video you need - czcams.com/video/u9ma5emXKK4/video.html
Hi Lisa. What version of Word are you using? I don’t see / have some of the features you’re teaching from.
Hi Erika, what version are you using, I'm just curious?
Hi! Is there a way to autofill part of the form? Say you choose from a dropdown list: Item A, and then in another section, the Item A description is auto filled.
Hi, yes there is. It's a little complicated to type instructions so the video below will help you:-
czcams.com/video/u9ma5emXKK4/video.html
Thanks for the video. However I do not see the option of Format Shape tool in the layout option at all. Could you please help on this
If you double click on the shape a dialogue box should appear or a menu on the right hand side - this should help you.
Excellent tutorial! Just one question (for now, lol), how do you make the boxes you created to be check boxes? Or does Word know what it is?
How can you protect the actual data in the form yet have it still be fillable? I am looking to ensure that the form can not be manipulated but the client can complete it as a fillable form? What version of Word are you using as well?
Great information - thank you! How do you "Lock" the fields/cells that you don't want the client to be able to edit?
Here is a video to show you how.

@Lisa Doe I have created a table where 1 cell is a dropdown list. I would like to find a formula where once a item is selected from the ''list'' it populates the Date & Time in other cells. I would like this to be a timestamp type format. I look forward to any helpful tips to do this as I am yet to find the formula. Footnote the excel formula to do this doesn't work when applied in a word.doc

Yes

Are you using Microsoft Office Word? What version or year are you using? I'm currently using the 2013 version - might need to upgrade......

Hello, is it possible to save the document like a PDF so that the document is able to be filled out but someone is unable to change text or box sizes from the original document? Thank for the vid.
Lisa
Thanks for your video
I have a problem , using Word 2019 - I can only protect whole doc. not a specific area.
I have field and insert photo placer
I selected the permission as filling the form but the photo place was also restricted
how can I work around

I set up two separate grids on a form I created today. I left space between the grids. When I tab through the last cell on the top grid, rather than jumping down to the 1st cell in the second grid, it pulls in a new row of cells on the top grid. How do I prevent that?
If you are on the lower right cell in your table and press tab Word will automatically add a new row. Is that the problem?
Is there a way to insert a SUBMIT button into a fillable form so that when a user enters data in the fields, the information is emailed to someone once SUBMIT is selected?
You could try and add a hyperlink but not sure if that would work for email.
thank you so much, ive watched this and learned a lot from you, thank thank you 😇😘
