I've seen a number of interviews with Angus and Brian. Brian is one of those lads who is so down to earth, and grateful just to be in the band. He said in the beginning he felt apprehensive to do any of their old stuff, as he said it felt like an injustice to do Bon's songs, but thankfully Angus and Malcolm said, it's all good, do it in your style. Bon had the real bluesy sound, added with that charm and charisma. Brian, has that rock and roll voice, it may not have a ton of range, but his high head range though, WOW! Brian too has the charm just not in quite the same way as Bon though. You can hear some differences in Brian's vocals from when he started with the band, to where he is now, but 40 years of recording and touring with a band of that magnitude like AC/DC. It's shocking he can still work his tail off doing tours, he like the rest of them put it all out on stage. One of the hardest working and honest rock bands out there.

I was just saying that out loud here, right near the end Brian lets the rasp slip for just a moment & his natural singing voice comes through & it's absolutely stunning (I love the rasp, it gives me goosebumps every time); I just haven't heard it clearly like that before. I can't compare Bon & Brian, they both bring so much to AC/DC, I miss Bon's music, but I'm so glad that Brian has been able to keep it alive. :)

It’s so interesting you noticed and mentioned the tone and sound beneath all the rasp and powerful singing. I was pretty close with Brian (and his family) for about 5 years, and there were countless times he and I would be hanging out, and when there was music playing he’d sometimes be be standing next to me with his arm around me or whatever and sing along and it just blew my mind. It was rarely ever rock. We’d listen to like Ray montagne and older blues artists etc. and he knew it and sang it all. I literally never heard him sing like he does with the band (unless we went to a show of course) His voice is so crazy good with AC/DC but it’s also so much more. I feel so lucky to have had so many good times and memorable moments with him. I even saved one of the voicemails he left me just because, who gets those? Haha! All that and One of the best human beings out there, and a true living legend.

Great, as always! I think the "velvet" came with the decades. I know exactly what you're talking about, though. His voice became much warmer, richer, and timbrally more complex with age. It was far thinner and more caustic in the early days (though still enjoyable). I have no idea how he's managed to do what he's done with (and to) his voice for SO many years. Unbelievable. A truly unique vocalist. To this day, no one else sounds quite like him.

One of the greatest pure rock and roll bands in the history of the genre. I think their popularity and legacy is due to the combination of multiple factors, including consistent great basic rock songwriting with multiple catchy, instantly recognizable guitar riffs, solid musicianship of every member (especially Angus, with his multiple memorable solos) and obviously, the distinctive, powerful vocals of both Brian Johnson and Bon Scott (RIP). I saw them live at Madison Square Garden in the 90's and it was so cool when they opened up with Back In Black, 10K+ heads instantly starting bobbing to the beat after the first couple chords.
