Done by me in the last 9 months.
Got to the concert venue 45 minutes away. Nicely 30 minutes early. Realized I didn't have my flute. Got so flustered locked my keys and phone in the car. Had to borrow a phone and call my hubby who was generous enough to come and bring my flute. Sadly he arrived just as the band was about to play so they had already taken my flute and stand off the stage.
Make sure you have your music. Got to a concert didn't have my music. Thankfully the custodian of the facility gave me access to a computer with a printout and I could print it out. Double check everything! Even if it seems so obvious

Thanks so much for sharing! Makes my heart palpitate, hahaha - we are all sooo susceptible to doing things like this! It's why musicians always have nightmares about this stuff! 😅

Great video! And great tips! I had to learn the hard way myself. Speaking of wedding gigs. I was performing 2 songs for the “walking of the isle”, as I call it for my sister’s wedding. I was setting up my guitar and speaker. I plugged my guitar in and no sound. The jack was broken and I had to phone a friend to see if I could borrow his. He raced to get to the venue where it was held and almost got into an accident on the highway. So I ended up having about 10minutes to tune and sound check. I was already nervous and rushing last minute didn’t help. And to singers out there. Always check your mic! As I learned the hard way with my performance of “Subdivisions” on the cruise. You might remember that video. I don’t remember the number of my LNL video or I’d give it for reference. Thank you for sharing these great ideas!

Wow these are great tips, actually for every kind of artist who performs. I think I’m gonna write them down. The one about not taking every audition is so true! I had to learn this, too. It’s better to do one audition with 100% than 5 with 50%. 😊

Love this video! One tip I'd add is don't underestimate the need to take care of your physical health, or even the largest amount of practice could blow up in smoke! I played way below my own standards one year at local competitions during high school because I thought I just hadn't practised enough, but really I had just been sick for a few weeks and had not given myself nearly enough time off (for flute and otherwise). Just one week after the contest I was playing a thousand times better simply because I was well rested. Lesson learned (the hard way!)

You know I wanted to say that I enjoyed this video because it covered so many important things, but aside from that... I wanted to mention that your videos create a sense of communication personally and as a community. So aside from the technical and logistical, your videos create a much-needed human connection to musicians who as you know are always self-doubting and feeling kind of lonely or us against the world so to speak. Keep up the good work please.

one thing I am not good at is getting things done fast and being prepared in advance, I always leave things to last moment although nothing remains undone! your tips work for everyone, thanks!

I'm so near-sighted, I can't possibly forget my glasses/contacts! However, the sad thing is that I can tell I'm now starting to have trouble with reading... I should probably go get reading glasses, and start wearing them onstage when needed.... 😳 I guess that's how life goes!
