Luke Wigley this wasn't even a song it was like an interpretive sound experiment.
It's not that she put her own "spin" on it, but rather she tried to showcase her skill with the wrong song choice. It's as if a guy were purchasing magnum condoms and showcasing it to everybody in the store.
I like her musical spin on it... just not into her movements with pauses. It takes a honest and very serious lyrics to a playful place that leaves things deconstructed and left behind. But I can see other songs work well for her style. If you don't give detailed feedback, I can just mark it off as a thumbs down if you prefer. But it would be a bit in haste and somewhat regretful....if only :-) Surely liked her guitar play much more than the singing, to this song at least. Amazing location and glad it was captured with some good glass and angles.

Great cover I love hearing classic songs made fresh again that's what keeps them alive. If I want to listen to the original its still there! Other peoples covers don't take anything away from them they simply pay homage in there own way and keep the songs fresh.

+Simon Lorenz True. This girl is a good musician, but no other musician can cover this song to be nicer than Bob's original, because that was Bob's character and everything in it. It is art. Bob's character is already loved, so we shall never love any cover so long as we have heard the original. I am sure if this girl composes a jazz song, it would be a hit. I have listened to many songs that others have covered, and no matter how much they try to bend and fix it, they just ruin it. I am new to understanding music, but even the guitar chords sound differently when done by different people, because of finger shapes, character, personal imperfections, and in fact that is what is called music: an art.
Always-Stay-Positive In the end it is a subjective opinion, that everybody is entitled to have, so this was not supposed to be an absolute statement. I simply prefer Bob's original version because of it's soul, feel and untouchedness. I'm sure she is a great musician, I would really like to see her perform without so much digital help, because that allows the listener to capture the true amount of feel, put in by the artist.
And I share your point that the same song, played by another person in the exact same way still sounds differently. It's the beauty of arts - so much to discover :-)
Simon Lorenz I know that NOONE can sing that song and make it look better than Bob's. Bob's character is already perfect for such songs, so even if Michael Jackson or Usher spend ten months to maked a cover, it will always sound like crap compared to Bob. I totally agree with you.
Simon Lorenz You are a genuine music enthusiast. Keep that up. Yes, even Michael Jackson would mess this song up is he tried. Usher would completely mess it up. Bob has a certain spirit, and that i what mad him what he is. He was so simple and naturally a lover of music.

Yep, i was thinking that.. i think she's putting too much "swag" in it and trying to "dress it up" with her skills.. and its not one of those types of songs.. i see it as a very personal song to the writer, really deep felt and kinda asking the same question i often ask... Where did it all go wrong with humanity and why?.. anyways.. the song is mean't with no anger towards any part of mankind given those terrible circumstances, instead it is a song of nature and an idealistic outlook of freedom... Although you could say then that whatever style Ashley played it in.. it was mean't to happen.. in the name of freedom.

She is a beautiful talent, free-minded lady and itt shows how much she respects Bob Marley and the culture. The fact that she over-did the song just shows how exploratory she is in music, an art, which is a good thing. I respect the years she has spent learning the guitar. The fact that she, as a girl/woman, had sacrificed her beautiful fingernails and endured finger pains, sacrificed time most girls spend gossiping to educate herself like that... all this is worshipdable. It is NOT easy!
