    I've got both of these, and so far in my experience, the Moonman seems to have dry-out issues if it sits for even a couple days. I've had hard starting after a day or two of it sitting, whereas the Jinhao doesn't suffer this problem as yet. I really like the looks of both, but so far the Jinhao is performing better.

    I think im gonna look at the Moonman one because I have a few Jinhao pens already. Thanks for the recommendations and the reviews Mr. Garry.

    I adore the coloway of that moonman. I wish I could find one similar. Jinhao has a green which is very pretty but I love the blue green combo.

    My jinhao 100 centennial writes as wet and broad as can be! But how? You might ask? I swapped out the standard nib whatever it was. And I shoved into it a KAIGELU NIB! And if I remember correctly, I bought it on an ALI EXPRESS seller. Oh My dear Garry! Do Yourself a big favour and buy up a few KAIGELU MEDIUM NIBS! And SWAP out the whatever you have in, Your guess what? Moonman m800! You won't be sorry!

    I have a bright orange Jinhao.
    Great pen excellent nib.I use it with Seitz Kreuznach Palm green ink.
    Shades almost to black. Lovely.
    I had a Moonman, gave it away after I got the Jinhao.

  • @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564

    Garry, I have the Jinhao on order. I'm beginning to get so enthusiastic about these reasonably priced Chinese pens, that it makes me second guess the money I've spent on expensive pens.

    This jinhao is incredibly well made. Almost identical to a duofold. Their parts are interchangeable. Moonman is also great but with two tiny things I dislike. 1, the step down; 2. The rings are thicker than both jinhao and duofold. Great job, Garry!

      Thanks. The love the colouring of the Moonman - but that’s mainly because it has a lot of green in it, and green is by far my favourite colour.

      @@GarryEves I'm pretty sure that's the teal Moonman, not blue? That's why it has green in it. Teal is a great colour, too.

    I love that you did a comparison like this, please keep it up!
    It's funny how the Moonman nib is on the fat side of medium, and the Jinhao nib is on the thin side of fine. Both of them are kind of in that somewhat uninteresting fine-medium spectrum. Very well for day to day writing.
    I own the Moonman M600S in the swirly amber version (apparently there's two versions both called amber, mine is the one with the more distinctive three colors in it).
    It's a reasonably good pen that writes very well for what it is, but hasn't really convinced me to keep in rotation. Nothing is really wrong with it, but I prefer the M800 by a lot, just on feel, comfort and how it posts.
    What I dislike a lot on the Moonman M600S is the faux-Parker clip, but I would have liked the Jinhao a bit more if it didn't have that logo on the nib.
    If I look in front of me right now, there's a TWSBI ECO, a Ranga 3C, a Moonman M800 and a PenBBS 308, 348 and 456 all competing for a few drops of ink. The competition of rotation is tough!
    In either case, these two are reasonably good pens, and it's a very fair comparison between the two of them. I feel like you were a bit generous with the scores for pen looks. They look nice, don't get me wrong, but if you put them on some of PenBBS models which are roughly one price-bracket up, they don't really meet the mark for me.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 3 lety

      I’ve recently received my first PenBBS 456 (first impressions video to come in March), but as a quick spoiler - I ordered the Cloud version and it is by far the best looking pen I currently own. I’ll be getting some different patterns to compare against each other in the future.

  • @johnd4304

    I agree with you. The Jinhao in blue does look gaudy...which is why I didn't buy a blue one. I have the dark green marbled one that looks gorgeous, and belies the £12 or so I paid for it about two years ago. And that included postage from China to here in the UK. It writes beautifully. Not a pen for anyone like myself schooled in cursive writing though, (which you obviously were not- no offence intended). My only complaint would be, it's rather a big pen, not meant obviously to be used posted. But then, it is a copy of the original Parker for which it is a faithful reproduction of. Even if you don't intend to use it, at the price it's a must have for any collection.

    • @GarryEves
      @GarryEves  Před 2 lety

      Thanks.
      I've never really taken to cursive writing, and haven't used it since school. When teachers used to complain about how bad my handwriting was I would think "then why are you making me write like this."

    21:19 I wish the advertised "Checkerboard" finish would be actually available. It's shown on the Jinhao's promotional lineup but nowhere to be found online (AliExpress, Ebay, etc.).

    I have a lot of Jinhao pens--nib problems. Maybe they improved them, but historically they made beautiful #6 nibs that did not work consistently--ink starvation--perhaps nib did not sit properly on feed.

      I've only got 2 Jinhaos and one Moonman. The Moonman is very nice looking and the blue jinhao is very close in terms of looks. The other Jinhao I have is the meteorite pattern and that is nowhere near as nice-looking as the Moonman.

    • @jasonnabors1231
      @jasonnabors1231 Před 2 lety

      That sort of answers my question of whether I should try a Moonman, because I have never been satisfied with Jinhao's writing. Scratchy and not smooth. Sounds like a dull pencil on the paper. So if Moonman is worse, then that's a no go for me.

    I do have a couple of the Moonman 600s one in teal, like the one here and one in a cool brown/yellow/ white bubble swirl. looks very 70's. I have a couple Jinhao 100's. One in cracked ice orange and one in Blue chessboard. I love them all. Great, smooth writers that look slick. I also have a few Kaigelu 316's in this style. I guess I might like them a bit. lol
