  • Jinhao came out with the 100 in celebration of their centennial in 2020. I wasn't crazy about the solid orange/red pen, but this orange resin is really nice (and so is the Sky Blue version). But can it write?
    This pen is available here: amzn.to/36mGeIc
    If you're patient enough for shipping from China, I bought mine here from a seller I've had good experience with on eBay: ebay.us/QHf7yM

    Con: lots of threads holding on the cap.
    Pro: all those threads keep the nib from drying out.

    I recently got my first two Centennials (pink cracked ice with the finials in the same finish and this orange cracked ice with black finials). My pink one is currently inked up with Pilot Iroshizuku Momoji and it's a very nice combo. I'm planning to add the koi and the "Big Red" style orange, adding nibs to swap in to the shopping list. It's not only a smooth writer, but a great ergonomic fit for me.

    Love my Jinhao 100 Centennials. I have 6 of them in my collection. For
    the money, I agree, it is a good writer. They also look nice, comfortable
    in my small hand, and affords me a nice writing experience with the
    med. nibs.

    Great review! I was curious about the real big red but I could not justify the price unlike a vintage Parker 51. Then I reasoned the only reason I want one is for the Chinese red color and size(big red). So I ordered a Jinhao.

    I got two of these, one in the traditional "Big Red" color, and one in the cracked ice sky blue color, both with EF nibs! I don't normally care much for "big" pens, but these aren't bad at all to write with! I like them a lot! Now I'm trying to find a solid white one with chrome trim!

    Jinhao seems to really be stepping up their game. Until the Centennial, my favorite Jinhao was the 51a. I've used several others of theirs but sometimes the nibs weren't the best. The 51a, which I have 4 of now, are consistently good. Now the Centennial comes along and it's far and away the best one I've used from them. Plus, the attention to detail overall is really impressive!

    I've got two of these, same color, Big Red orange, one with medium nib, one with fine nib. Both are excellent writers. I much prefer the fine nib for my writing style. I am one of those purists who prefer vintage Parkers and Sheaffers, but I have to say that Jinhao makes an excellent writing instrument for a rather ridiculously low price. For me, these do not supplant the genuine vintage pens, but they sure do supplement them. I especially like the fact that Jinhao pretty much duplicated the weight and balance of the original 1920s Parker Duofolds; they are VERY comfortable to write with. Great review, thank you!

    Great looking pen, and although I've not had any Jinhao number 6 fine nibs, I've been happy with Jinhao nibs in general, so I'm pretty sure that I will like this one (which I WILL be getting. After a while. I already have 4 other Jinhaos coming, on top of my evergrowing vintage pen collection--2 Esterbrook pens and 2 Wahl-Eversharp Skyliner pens this month.)
    As to the ever present comparisons to the Parker Duofold: Parker wasn't the first one to use the design, and certainly not the last. It's basically a classic 1920s design. Even Conway Stewart had one that looked similar as a limited edition for Christmas in 2020, and nary a peep about it "looks like a Duofold." Dunno why people have to only do this when it's a cheaper pen...
    Great review as usual! Thanks and God bless!

    I call my plain orange Jinhao 100, the Centennial. It writes like a dream with it's 2 tone medium nib.
    I use Seitz Kreuznach Palm green ink in mine which shades to almost black. The nib writes upside down with a finer line for jotting.

    I'm a little late to the party, but just wanted to drop a line to say thank you! I've had a pretty miserable time with the Jinhao pens I've owned (450,750,159) and had pretty much written them off. I just received this one in the mail after watching this video, and am glad that I did! It's such a fun color and a real pick-me-up. I love it!

      I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences! Mine with Jinhao have been uniformly good; but not with those pens. Well, I do have a 159, but I got it to have a pen where I didn't have to care if I broke it learning how to swap nibs. Went fine. I use it with a Goulet Pens stub nib (Jowo? got it in mid-2020) for the rare calligraphy need at work. The Jinhao nib is doing itself proud in a Duke pen I got (which wrote fine with the Duke nib, just wanted to see what would happen).

    In the retail market, everyone copies everyone. I can speak to this as I spent many years there. I see this as Jinhao reacting to Moonman & Kaigelu & Hong Dian, who have success with the Duofold design. How many have replicated the Sheaffer Balance? All cell phones copy Apple. It is the nature of the business.

      I have fair amount of name-brand pens with gold nibs - Parker, Monte Blanc, Delta - some very $$$$$. I am consistently shocked at how well these Jinhoa pens write. They are fun to collect and write with on a very low budget.

    • @DollyTheLlama
      @DollyTheLlama Před 3 lety +1

      If I'm not mistaken, Moonman uses the factory that Parker had in China before they downsized and sold it. I'm wondering if something similar is the case with Jinhao.
      I've taken a liking to the Chinese pens too. Some of them are very eye catching in comparison to the U.S. or European brands. And not bad writers at all!

Like you going straight to the point... does it write well? And you give a quick answer of yes it does. It is important to me if it writes good. Kinda weird of me I guess but I take with at least 3 fountain pens of various kinds and inks on a daily basis. I write with all 3 on a daily basis. I also take along a gel click pen for those people that always ask me.. " I need a pen, do you have a pen I can use?". They get the clicker. Thank you again for your reviews. God bless you and keep you safe.

    Mine is light blue and man, I love it. Nib was dry when it arrived, obviously, so it needed little adjustment to write as I like it but I am impressed by how good built quality is. I would say that my modern Sheaffer 300 isn't as good as this one. My only gripe is that Chinese are really fond of theyr EF and F nibs, so there is no way to get this in M or B.

    Hi ! What do you recommend choosing from the Jinha models: 992, 9019, 100? For me, the main thing is smooth and flowing writing, and a juicy line closer to M. or maybe some other model?

      Of those the 100 is my favorite, followed closely by the 9019. Lately Asvine has had some very good M nibs. The P20 is a very good M and is a great piston filler.

    Jinhao. Celebrating 100 years of copying other manufacturers designs.

  • @josephaziz1731
    @josephaziz1731 Před 2 lety

    I have lots of Jinhao 450, 750, and 100's. Must use cartridges to avoid drying out or blotchiness, blobs. Good for a while, but then the nib will turn on you and give you trouble. Nib is not well attached to feed--seems to be too much space between nib and feed with tight tines at tip--needs adjustment but sometimes you can have fairly good luck with Thornton sepia cartridges. Still unreliable out of the box unless you expert at nib adjustment. When it works, it's as good as any pen out there, but it's too unreliable.

  • @mattsadventureswithart5764

    I've bought 3 of these, now. The first is one I love to use, the second was when my kid wanted a fountain pen (like Dad), loves pink and the first pink pen on amazon was one of these, and the third was bought as a gift for my Mum.
    All 3 of them write beautifully smoothly (I had to check before giving them, of course😂, nothing to do with me loving writing with nice pens) and I felt they were perfect as gifts. I've bought a bunch of "cheaper" pens, including twsbi and lamy (along with even cheaper jinhao), and none of them feel quite as nice to write with.
    If I were to be buying another fountain pen as a gift, even if money wasn't much of a limitation, I'd be very tempted to buy more of these.
    If you're reading comments on 2 year old videos, Jinhao, please restart or keep up production of this model.
