- This is the historic intercept of the Spalding, Nebraska tornado by Team Dominator. It's a textbook intercept, done with the help of Jordan Hall, Sierra Lindsey, Brian Allen, ad Jaden Pappenheim. Our science continues to push the boundaries of what's possible, and the understanding of tornadoes. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this, including our Members!!

Congratulations I've watched you guys for years but this is by far your finest work ever, I don't think anyone will be topping this anytime in the near future. COOL AS HELL !!!
This is scary 😳
Caca de la vaca
Congratulations guys!
Scaaaaaary
Does not seem scary to me i love videos like this!
Did anyone notice the two cars directly behind the Dominator as it came to a stop? I sure hope they implement some safety features around this, like a "DO NOT FOLLOW" sign, hazard lights, or simply pull over as far as possible. Also, how did those two cars not see this giant tornado coming?
I thought it was ironic. Other road users were right there in the tornado. Who these idiots stopped in front of and endangered. Those ppl just drove round these fools and away.
The other drivers might have escaped ahead of the tornado if nobody had been parked in the middle of the road.
They briefly showed the window being closed. One possibility is the crew wildly gestured the other vehicles to get out of there ASAP! Otherwise, why would you open a window mere seconds before a tornado hit? (3:24 ok you might open it to get a cool shot? yikes)
@@jagaloon216 Couldn't agree more. Nothing like acting like a bunch of drunken frat boys while endangering the lives of those around them. Morons.
They're probably amateur storm chasers. It's not like people can't see the tornado.
I like how the other cars were like "tornado? who cares, I gotta get to work"
As a drone photographer, you owe someone SEVERAL beers for the perfect drone shot of Dominator and the tornado! Great work Reed and photographer.
Epecially if its a dji drone because they're so expensive lmao
DUDE DID YOU SERIOUSLY JUST COPY THE COMMENT ABOVE YOU?!?!??!
i thought it was an animation lmao
It was the dominator that filmed it
pay people with cash not beer, not everyone drinks
As someone who used to watch storm chasers in the early 00’s I now feel so proud for you and your team on getting the intercept. Congratulations
As someone who survived the 4/27/2011 F4 in Pleasant Grove, AL I can tell you that the pressure drop is substantial and the noise is deafening. Incredible work.
I survived the one that hit in 98 in Edgewater near McDonald Chapel not too far from Pleasant Grove. I had to survive in a drainage ditch under a road and can concur with the noise and pressure drop. I would also like to add in my situation the vibrations I felt through my body as the f5 tornado went over me were so damn intense.
@@wizarddragon I lived in forestdale at the time and can remember hearing it from that far away. I can only imagine how loud it was in it.
I've been close to water spouts in Florida and the pressure was very low feeling that day. We were a mile or so from 3 of them. And anytime there's a tornado watch it feels low. I can't imagine riding one out. Tropical storms are exciting enough.
I went through the same storm here in NW Georgia 4/28/2011 (or maybe it was the 27th, I cant quite remember). Experiencing it is just as awe-inspiring as it is terrifying
We are wondering if the pressure wave is actually the most damaging part of a tornado
That drone shot of the Dom and the tornado is awesome!
What about the 3 fools in the standard cars who played chicken with the tornado?

Growing up in tornado alley I witnessed several tornadoes. They scared me so badly for years I couldn't even watch any videos of tornadoes without having a panic attack. Decided as an adult to overcome my fear by forcing myself to start slowly watching videos of them. Now by watching storm chasers like you guys, I find tornadoes extremely fascinating. The power of Mother Nature is pretty amazing. Just wish it didn't bring the destruction with it.
I hope your fear about them gets healthier. ❤
Crazy thing is that I was just as scared of them as a kid . Like massively, yet never saw one. My first experience was hearing that train sound as a woman in my early 20s. And as my experience has grown a tad, my fear is better. I still get excited but not petrified as long as I am in touch with my guys and we're safe as we can be. I think it's more of a mind thing than it is experience sometimes lol.
I too was terrified. Had to buy videos to help me get over it. I’m still scared and have a problem being inside a car in a car wash.
Nature is the ultimate Blackpill, she always takes what is hers
I am a college student of Atmospheric science from China, I have watched your programs "Storm Chasers" since I was a child. Seeing how much you love chasing storms and making contributions to science, I was deeply touched and encouraged me to continue studying knowledge and Atmospheric science.💪 Thank you for your work and contributions.👍👍If there is a chance, I would also like to come to the United States and chase the storm with you❤❤
You get some very powerful tornados there! I was just watching coverage of the Liaoning tornado from last month. Perhaps you can put what you’ve learned at school and from watching Reed into action. Stay safe and best of luck!

From 4:00 to 4:03, It looks like you are directly inside the center of the tornado as right before the wind switches directions, if you look on the road, it got very calm for like a second or 2 before you get blasted by winds coming directly at you. This was amazing!
I noticed the same thing. I think they were in the very center of the eye.
yea looks like it. Although i'm not sure if there really was no wind at all in the center. but the tornado wasn't large so I guess the center wasn't very wide. In case larger tornado means wider center
@@Hallo81398 The tornado was large but it was weak. There can be weak tornadoes with wide centers of rotation. The Andover tornado had a very small eye but the force of the wind around it caused EF3 damage
Wind didn't switch directions.
@@isawicame4579 You're not a very good observer, right?
What an era to live in, when we could see footage like THIS, thank you for sharing!
A year later, and this still stands as possibly the most legendary intercept you guys have pulled off.
I still can't believe those two cars passed by them just as the tornado was passing over. Did they think their plain old cars would be able to handle the same forces as the Dominator? Seemed like huge risk to try and outrun the thing instead of just staying back. Honestly a miracle no one was hurt.
looks like they did just fine.......
They couldn't have cut it any closer, luckily they got out of the way and didn't get rolled!
Yeah that looked super sketchy, idk maybe they got caught off guard by the dominator stopping, but … Too many inexperienced people out and about with these storms.
I don't understand how people do such risky things just to save a minute or two. I would have shown it some respect and stopped a half mile earlier and watched in awe.
@@kenelkins1787 I don't think they realized what was about to hit.
This really proves just how much better creator content is than legacy media, 8 min short was 100x better than the entire discovery series (I watch them alal religiously) well done, Reed and team. I wonder what shaun is up to these days.
That's an important point. I will refrain from getting political, but it's a reason to avoid too much bureaucracy.. large organizations (or media companies) or governments seem to lose the flexibilty needed to accomplish things as their size and complexity increases.
@matthewmosier8439 The main issue is the economic system surrounding it. It just makes more financial sense to make a series based on the drama instead of the actual Science and passion of storm chasing. Especially with a large corporation, they want returns on their investments.
@@Tivis7 MSM news media live by instilling doubt and fear in their believers ( I used that term intentionally)
@@Tivis7 I grew up watching storm chaser content, and the show would be so irritating at times because even 16 year old me would get tired of the non-stop focus on the drama and not the giant spinning cloud.
Finding Reeds youtube channel many years ago was a blessing.
The drone camera really adds beautifully to the overall view and gives me a better understanding of the physical scale of the event. Wow, incredible job!
As a former Nebraskan and previously a Navy Meteorologist, I'm astonished by what you've accomplished. Bravo Zulu. I'm also not the least bit surprised there was one car in front of you driving on the same intercept course you were on, and two more behind that passed you seemingly unaware or not caring the danger they were in. Midwesterners... The sirens howl and we head to the windows to see.
people are dumb or oblivious; both?
For real, just normal everyday folks following the armored tornado intercept vehicle into the tornado like it ain't no thing.
oklahomans wouldve been sitting in their chaiir whilst in the tornado XD
Yeah seems a bit inconsiderate to park in the road while traffic is trying to get past the tornado.
@@AJ-fe8om good point
My house got hit by a tornado when I was a kid and that pressure drop is freaky as hell. Could feel the air getting sucked out of every room in the house through the hallway we were sheltered in and up through the attic. Extremely lucky it was a very weak tornado that only tore roof shingles off and pulled the electric meter off the side of my house but I thought I was dead when I felt that pressure drop right after it sent a rain of hail through a bedroom window.
One night several years ago, back when I was a long haul driver, I was crossing Nebraska about midnight. I felt the air get "funny" and decided to stop for the night. The next morning, before I left, the truck stop employees were talking about the tornado that hit right after midnight down the road. I had stopped five miles from where it crossed I-80 and tore down a cement silo, and twisted a big tree out of the ground. From that day on, I stopped driving after dark.
Shouldn’t be sheltering in an attic 😬 Good thing it was weak 😊
@@jamie8732 I had to reread a few times, but they said they said they were sheltered in the hallway but felt the air blow past and exit through the attic.
@@jamie8732 We were sheltering in the hallway.
@@mikimomo97 The entrance to the attic was in the hallway we were sheltered in. Had all the doors closed but could feel the air being pulled out of those rooms through the gaps under the doors and it snapped the piece of sheetrock we used as a 'door' to the attic as the air was being sucked up through the house. Scary as hell for a few seconds and then it was over thankfully.
As a Storm Chasers fan, I'm so happy y'all were able to achieve this. Wow.

I was SO fortunate to catch this live. The rush I felt sitting in my living room was nothing compared to what it must have been like to actually go through it, but my pulse was racing! An absolutely incredible event! Thanks for bringing us along on the chase, and for providing such a great rundown of it in this video. The data collected that day will be studied for years to come. I found this channel a week ago and was watching whenever they were live. I was out of town since Thursday night and missed it. I suck.
I remember YEARS ago watching storm chasing and Reed smashing into the scene,
He just had a nose for hunting and finding storms.
His agenda has changed over the years, from pure storm chasing to more scientific research, but you could always see he had something special about him,
Well done brother 👏👏👏
Great work, guys! Just drove accidentally through the EF-1 we had here in Highlands Ranch, CO. Your visuals inside the funnel remind me so much of my experience. Debris was blowing everywhere downing a light pole, pulling up a huge tree and dropping a huge piece of steel from a rooftop on in front of my car that I had to quickly dodge. It was crazy! As our tornado was so rain-wrapped, we never saw the funnel as it just all appeared like one big bad storm. I wish I was able to film it. It's kind like the "seeing the forest through the trees" effect. Again, awesome work, team!
that day felt like texas in denver
Reed, this is a GREAT time to just remind you of what we all here think of your work that your doing currently and what you've done over all of these years. You are a phenomenal human being with a mind that is insanely sharp, and you know EXACTLY what your seeing in the storms via radar or line of sight, and what you can reasonably expect it to do. Thats due to your VERY real meteorology education which resulted in a Doctorate. You are an OG in this field and you created a new lane for chasers to follow today. MUCH respect for that. And they DO follow it. I hope you feel pride when you see even those who are absolutely clueless and chasing fog thinking it may produce because... well.. who knows why lol. What gets me is the hate a couple of the chasers groups show you, when they SHOULD be grateful that you have stayed humble and approachable all this time and still do! You are STILL killing it with your IMPORTANT research, making a difference, and not just focused on jumping in your car to chase fluffy clouds that somehow may produce something and ask for donations doing it. Your a REAL one. and we all see it, and know it. Keep being you my bro, the others will adjust or they won't. That's on them, and it will ultimately be their cyclic failure in this lane you created for yourself and all of those who followed. I REALLY hope that those few switch up their act directly and erase the negatively toward the YOU, THE GOAT, in their groups and their chats. By NOT tolerating the bad behavior proactively. It's a dangerous living and everybody should respect the others equally. Ok, ill stop now lol. Other chasers, STOP with the trolling and spamming of Reeds chat. He is ACTUALLY making a real difference. If you don't, you'll be back to your old jobs by the end of the summer. Nobody pulled this on Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Tom Brady, etc etc. And they are idiots for doing it to the guy who helped create the very lane they are trying to use to make a living. And to keep it 💯 with you and to be fair, we love you bro... but please for the luv of all that's good, cut that stash, run outside with it and stomp it to death on the ground lol. You are a real life legend brother Reed!! Much Luv Reed MF OG 👊💪
they're all panicked, but the other Nebraskans were just annoyed someone stopped in the middle of the road. "Nothing to see here" I can see them saying as they go around
Yea, I love the 18 wheeler going the other direction, never slowed down; multiple pickups...some pull over, some not-so-much... :)
Yeah they just wanted to enjoy their pleasant Nebraska sunday cruise.
Helen Hunt was actually the first woman to intercept a Tornado.
I was thinking how accurate the movie was with Hellen Hunt all those many years ago. Loved the drone footage and was surprised to see so many other vehicles around.
Unless those were bulletproof windows, all it would have taken was a stone hitting them to shatter and suck everyone out.
Might want to add seat belts, roll cage and helmets.
Good job guys
@exteriorized yes the dominator does have bullet proof windows. They have a video going over alot of the details of the vehicle if you want to know more.
@@exteriorized If this was the same weekend, here in Nebraska we had a record number of tornado warnings and at one point there were 15 tornadoes on the ground at the same time, and that's just what people knew about. There are a LOT of very rural areas where, if a tornado came down, people may not even see it. With that much going on, people may have just gotten used to the tornado watches and warnings and gone out, they are very lucky they weren't hurt though.

Heck no. The daylight makes it a lot less scary but think about a gust twice as strong
This was a REALLY weak tornado. I got caught up in something close to this in a 3/4 ton work truck many years ago and just pulling off into the ditch was enough to keep it from picking the truck up. Yea sure, flying debris can impale concrete with a toothpick kind of thing in the stronger ones, but these open field tornados usually just kick up grass and dirt if you are lucky enough to avoid the flying fencing that might be around. This was not the strong "dig a trench and remove a house to its foundation" type of tornado that we in oklahoma usually worry about
Yeah, it can seem less intimidating because of what you're seeing, which isn't much. It's the incredible forces that you CAN'T see that are dangerous, and THAT'S what they're working to capture and study. The pressure drops and massive forces driving those chaotic winds

I don't recall much about that storm but sure heard a lot about it over the years and of course that picture of the twin F4's have forever been etched in my mind. I also lived through the 1974 Super Outbreak where it seemed there were tornadoes everywhere. Over the years there obviously have been other scares but none like those. Not blaming the team for this at all, but I was a bit worried seeing the two vehicles you can see get temporarily stopped behind the Dominator, when it stopped for the tornado hit. They went around, but hope they got out of there alright.
It's great seeing these intercepts. This is what storm chasers have dreamt of for years, getting inside these things, and living to tell about it.
@@mmille10 i shared a similar concern to yours about the other drivers in another comment.😀
At first I was disappointed to see the drone land just as the tornado reached the vehicle, but I assume that the drone landed automatically when it lost connection to the transmitter in the Dominator. Would that be the case?
@@TimLewallen yeah that was my first thought as well when i saw the drone land, most drones have a way to make a graceful landing should something go wrong.
Let me be 100% clear. This is the most amazing and coolest thing I can think of to do as a career on the surface of the earth. I wish I could be in that car, I could think of nothing more amazing than doing science in the most extreme conditions on the planet.
wow what a shot to
so happy to see you all still doing it and reaping the rewards
ive wanted to be a part of this type of thing for most my life
Am i the only one losing my mind that not only did a car go in front of them on the intercept road, but also two cars passed them when they stopped to anchor down to intercept?!?!
Hey...gotta get to work!
Reed, Brian and the Dominator 3 crew, this was amazing to see live. Thanks you all for the work you do.
the cloud at 4:50 looks so small, it's hard to believe a tornado is coming from it 😂
this is some of the most incredible footage I've ever seen. Absolutely amazing
Proud to say I was watching LIVE right there shoulder-to-shoulder with Team Dominator from the stream...jaw dropped the whole time. Such an amazing live experience, gonna remember this one for a long time. If you missed this, you missed out. Don't miss the next one!
I just couldnt watch it- my heart was in my throat. I cut within 1 min of the contact. Am happy to see it here.
One of the best tornado intercepts ever! 163 mph is crazy, very impressive video! Never Stop Chasing!
Thank you very much!

It's like an extremely tiny cat 5 hurricane.

My gosh reed this is probably the best one you ever did. That was awesome
You have been at the top of the game for years. That data can and will be used by so many. Impressive.
You could see a car passing the Dominator right as the tornado began to cross the road from the drone footage. Those people must have been completely oblivious to the tornado rapidly approaching them, probably wondering why that strange-looking SUV in front of them stopped in the middle of the road. They are very lucky to be alive and unharmed. People need to pay attention to their surroundings. How on earth did they not see that huge tornado bearing down on them?
I love how no one in the dominator was concerned for that other car.
@@Dobbs65 i believe it was pecos hank trying to one up Reed.
So cool, seeing years of effort played out in a few intense seconds. Great job team!
I lived in a town about 20 minutes from here, I remember seeing the dominator and was so hyped, then I saw the live feed and freaked out
You are the first channel I think I've ever subscribed to. Thanks for your faith and courage to do this work.
Great work Reed, Jordan and Brian on the editing.
Watching this live, with their reactions, you knew something special happened. Congrats Reed, I know this has been something you and your team have been chasing for years and glad to see it paid off for you! Thanks to mad lads like you in the community our understanding of these deadly yet beautiful forces of nature increases, making them less and less mysterious every year.
Congratulations. Makes me want to be back in Meteorology. What an amazing dataset you’ve collected. Too bad the anemometer got damaged. I can’t wait to check out your data release. Good luck and stay safe.
i'm so so proud of you guys GREAT JOB WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!
Congratulations!! That was an epic 👏🏼 intercept.Ive been following you for years and I know this was definitely a milestone. The Dominator performed perfectly. Hope to see more of your fabulous work. Stay safe!!!
My family & I watched this moment on the livestream and were all jumping for joy at the point of interception! Brilliantly done, guys! Everyone worked so hard leading up to that moment, & the whole Dominator 3 team deserves the recognition. Thank you for your entertainment, thank you for your science, & always remember to Never Stop Chasing! Bravo!
Thanks for the kind words, and glad the whole family enjoyed! Never stop chasing.
Reed is like someone who took a hobby too far with that car 😂 love what he does!
This video made me smile so big. Well done guys. Thats the view ive always wanted :D
