    Fantastic explanation, but you missed on point. How to set and release the brakes. That would have made it a 10 out of 10. as is, it's a 9 out of 10 :)

      I checked them after I pulled to the pull lanes. I did not video it because the lanes were full of other sets.

      It only takes once for it to toll back and almost rehook... ekkkkk lol

  • @Agislife1960
    @Agislife1960 Před 4 lety

    So if you rehook that back trailer, you've got to crank on the landing gear a little bit to raise the trailer back up for the dolly.

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  Před 4 lety +1

      That is a great loaded question! Yes and no. It's a little hard to explain. The dolly is kinda ramp shaped on the back so it allows you to scoop up the trailer and lifting it to the apron plate which can privet up and down. When the weight of the trailer is fully on the apron plate it sits flat
      But some times the trailers are dropped to low then the front of the trailer hits the tires. The trailer will bump the tires causing damage to the tires. So the yes you have to cranky the landing gear up! And that pretty much sucks lol
      If you check out this video towards the end you can see that shape of the dolly I'm talking about. czcams.com/video/GsfUGkVqHoo/video.html

    Can someone explain what is meant by this:
    “Never unlock the pintle hook with the dolly still under the trailer. The dolly tow bar may fly up, possibly causing injury, and make it very difficult to recouple.”
    I’m trying to visualize what would fly up and what it’s talking about. I’m reading it in a study guide.

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  Před 3 lety

      Great question. Its talking about where the dolly connects to the front trailer. Don't unhook the dolly from the rear of the front trailer before dropping the 2nd trailer. If unhooked the dolly tug can fly up.
      Does that make more sense?

    • @jaysant6958
      @jaysant6958 Před 3 lety

      @@SimpleLivin So if the 2nd trailer is still connected and you unhook the dolly from the front trailer, I still can’t visualize why it would fly up. Isn’t the 2nd trailer connected with the dolly 5th wheel? How would then go anywhere? Maybe I’m missing something are have something wrong. 🤔

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  Před 3 lety

      That is correct it would still be hooked to the 5th wheel. Those 2 location are huge pivet points. There is a lot of pressure on where the dolly connects to the rear of the first trailers.
      A dolly is a triangle. It has 2 wheels as anchors and depends on the pintle hook on rear of trailer to be the 3rd anchor or leg to keep it level and balanced. With the weight of the trailer on the back of the dolly once you unhooked from the anchor those 2 pivet points no long have the support needed. And the tongue will fly up.
      Between the 2 trailers is the most dangerous place on a set! Hooking and unhooked the dolly is where most injuries happen. We have see hands crushed, fingers amputated and unfortunately the loss of life.
      I hope this helps get a better visual. Trust in the process.

    How many pallets does the doubles haul?

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  Před 4 lety

      Good question! Tricky answer. If it's a Frieght company like xpo, ups,fedex abf... they have drip decks. The trailers are load floor to ceiling. You can fit 16 standard skids side by side nose to talk, add a deck you double let that as long as the weight allows. But not every skid is the standard size soooo you could have 50 skids lol
      Packages on the other hand ... hundreds! We haul for FedEx ground. Our typical trailer has 400-1000 packages
      That's just one trailer for those stats so double that lol

      @@SimpleLivin
      So 16 standard pallets? I'm thinking of purchasing a double trailer. I would need at least a 40 pallet capacity. My 53 ft trailer can take 24 loaded straight , not pin wheeled.
      I've never seen this on the road ; but could I attach a 28 ft trailer to a 40 ft ? That way I could get at least 40 pallets?

    • @SimpleLivin
      @SimpleLivin  Před 4 lety

      Doubles depends on where you are. Its tight regulations. Some states they must be on a roll road. There are drop yards off some exits on the turnpikes for trailers to be disconnected.
      The gross weight is the same for any combination. Whether its double 28 or double 53... which do get pulled in the midwest/west or triple 28s
