I used the free-cam (ctrl+alt+m) with WASD + QE for movement and U and O for tilting. For panning around I tried to move as smoothly as possible with the mouse.

Ctrl+U hides the UI and Ctrl+Y hides icon, planetary orbits etc.

Jig's, they are built by orbital fabs. They can only be built on gas planet. They have arms that go down to the planet that extract the gas giants recourses. Those explosions leading down to the planet are those arms that extract the recourses.

Usually the bottleneck is the server performance. The simulation speed slows down before any fps drops.
