How to do Paper Marbling | Fatema's Art Show

  • There are so many different methods to marble paper. This episode shows you two very easy methods.
The process is broken up in easy steps so everyone can have a go.
Supervise children when doing project with them as they can sometimes put too much ink in the water. If too much ink is in water the inks will run. The inks are oil based so they will stain clothes. Always wear an apron.
This project can also be linked with science. Marbling can sometimes look like cells in the human body and the scientific reason for why oil floats on water can be explained.

Please Note : You do not have to use paper towels on top ( it is an optional step) and you can leave to dry without last step . I used it as it makes the drying process quicker and avoids lumps of ink on the surface.

Thanx:)...what you do sounds lovely. You can use tragacanth for ebru art. Its best to use tragacanth. Also a very natural thing you can use which will thicken the water is cornflour. It will give you more control with moving the inks around.
I might do an episode about using thicker in water to create ebru art as in this episode I just covered a very basic way of marbling.

Thank you Fatema. I was given a set of marbling paints for Christmas and my first couple of attempts, based on what I remember from a video on CZcams of an old documentary (you might have seen it, but just in case, it's called 'Art of the Marbler' and I found it really inspiring; it's what made me interested in doing it for myself) were quite a failure.
I'm going to have another go now, after perhaps a trip to the shop for some shaving foam, following your brilliant instructions!

Awesome video. I'm making a book from scratch and am going to be doing the edge of the pages & inside of the hardback covers. I think ink is the best probably since it should stay on the paper edges better since they will be handled a lot. Not sure if acrylic paint will last. I just need to find somewhere locally that sells the ink. I don't know if walmart has it. Will finger nail polish work as good do you think & be as durable? Thanks for sharing.
