The Leipzig is the lead ship of her class built by the German Navy. She is one of two ships built next to Nürnberg who was famously sold-off to the Soviet Navy after World War II. She is well-known for her involvement in a collision with the German Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen on October 1944, and provided heavy fire support during Operation Barbarossa and the Defense of the Reich in the later years of the war.
