If you have a product or service that you charge your customers for on a regular payment interval, that can be set up with stripe through the billing plan feature also known as Subscriptions. .
let’s take a look at how Stripe Subscriptions work.
First off, you’re initiating recurring billing plans to your customers, a system that properly stores and encrypts credit cards is VERY important and since Stripe is a level 1 PCI compliant payment provider, this is a pretty good option for you if you’re wanting to use payment plans and subscription billing.
As noted on their website, stripe allows you to integrate with a 3rd party software to create custom recurring billing options, but in this stripe tutorial we’ll focus on the recurring billing options from within the Stripe Dashboard inside of your account.
Once you’re logged in, Locate the CREATE button right in the main menu at the top and if you click for the dropdown menu, you’ll see the SUBSCRIPTION option.
You can click on it with your mouse or you can use the HotKeys “C” and “S” in order to automatically launch the subscription page.
The first field is to find an existing customer, or add a new one. If you add a new customer, a lightbox pops up and you can add account details for the customer in question.
If you want to bill a customer that’s already saved in your Stripe account, just click the dropdown to select.
Pricing
You’ll add new pricing for your product or service and again if you’re adding new, you’ll be able to add all pertinent details in the lightbox that pops up.
If you’re billing for a product or service that you’ve already added as a product you can just click and select the product… and if you want to add more than one item to the billing plan just click “ADD PRODUCT” and repeat the process again.
Subscription schedule
Choose the start date and end date for the billing cycle in the next section and you can even choose “Free Trial” days if you want.
As you build the billing plan, you’ll notice that it updates on the SUMMARY section on this side of the page showing you what you have selected for your customer at hand.
Payment Method
Next IF you have selected a customer that has a saved card on their profile, this radio button will auto select to charge the credit card that is already on file with you in your Stripe account and you can move on to the next section.
IF however, you have a customer selected that does NOT have a card on file with you, you have this “Add a payment method” button that will allow you to enter the credit card details for this customer.
Thanks for this! Once someone has issued a payment/suscription, does stripe provide some payment id or similar that can be used to automatically set a user status to subscribed/paid?

What do you mean by "with phases", can you provide an example of what you mean?

What if you had a travel website, the website charged a fixed monthly fee to host the tour company service/tours.

@@russianforbeginners9699 Hey, not really, i ended up abandoning stripe for reasons like this. i now just use convertkit for VERY user friendly everything. for this particular thing, i used convert kit product page/landing page. and then i could do everything with easy from zapier after that would be specific extras.

Create it as a recurring product.
I want to add my product link to my website for options of 9 and 12 monthly payments. The product does not allow this with an end after 9/12 cycles. I can do a subscription but I have to do this for a customer I already have. What if you advertise a product for 9 months and 100 people sign up? You then have to manually end all the clients subs after 9 months? This seems insane. How do people sell a 9 month plan to new people they can sign upto and it ends automatically after 9 payments?

Yes there's ways to do that. It depends on the software you're using but there are a number of gateways and CRMs that will allow you to do that.

Yes you're looking at 0.5% to 0.8% (based on features) for Stripe Billing on top of the transaction fees.
Is there a way for me to create a subscription and not have to manually load each client? Like they go into a landing page with payment option (for example a clickfunnels page) and they pay over there and the subscription auto activates for the period I selected.
My specific example: I have a monthly subscription paid community. I would like my customers to be able to pay on a landing page and get the subscription activated for the next 30 days from the payment day. But I don’t want to load anything manually. When they purchase they get the link to the community in the thank you page and they will be billed till cancelled.

How would you create a Wordpress Checkout page for a service that offers a 1-pay, 3-pay, and 6-pay options?
Ken, You can do this 2 ways. It depends on whether you want the integrated option or if you're okay doing it with links outside of the integrated solution.
#1: Integrated solution: connect woocommerce and connect Stripe. Then you'd need to subscribe to a payment page plugin through a premium (paid) theme or Plugin that allows you to build payment pages with recurring billing.
#2: Stand-alone solution: Create the 1-pay, 3-pay and 6-pay payment pages (i.e. links) with your subscriptions and build a payment page on your wordpress site (doesn't have to be with woocommerce) and simply plug and play the hyperlinks that direct your buyer to the appropriate page.
I'll do a video on this in the near future because I get this type of question a lot.

Hi, I am a piano teacher. I want to set up an auto payment for all my students. I know how to do the recurring payment. I do have a question. My studio is charging the monthly flat fee. For the exiting students, I will just using the recurring payments. But for the new sign up students, I am bump into some problems. Some students are coming on the 2nd week or 3rd week. So, how will I set up the recurring payment. I'd like to charge them on the 1st of each month. For their first month, it would be pro-rated. How would I set it up? Thank you for your help.

We created a subscription product directly from Stripe. It's a 6-month payment plan. Upon reaching the 6th-month payment, it had deductions. Stripe said that it was due to proration. They said that we should have canceled the subscription before it reached the 6th-month payment to avoid the prorated amount. What does that mean? Does it mean that if we create a 6 monthly subscription, we will need to stop it on the 5th month? Does that make sense? I really need to be enlightened about this. Same ! We're constantly having to manually cancel memberships since the first payment isn't being applied to the 6 installments. It's been a nightmare. Members are being charged thousands and we have to refund and apologize.

@@mich4350 since the first payment doesn't apply to the subscription, I suggest setting up 5 cycles instead of 6. It's honestly such a nightmare. I would like a better resolution to be honest.
@@niamhburkenutrition6623 Yes that's what we've been doing, but it sucks because we had to retroactively do this for hundreds of subscriptions. It's a high ticket subscription so imagine our refund balance. Imagine overcharging clients thousands of dollars. it's caused so much distrust.
Can the customers input there own CC on the page? For example, can I have a HTML code or a link to put on my website so they can enter in their details?
Yes you can embed code.
And if you know how to code and program, you can do pretty much anything.

@@adambecker9510 As far as I can tell so far.... you can only created limited payment plans for individual customers, you have to list the customers first into the stripe system - but I dont think you can create a payment link that anyone can use that is for limited payments - sorry

Yes you can do that. Just create the link and attach the product (i.e. the subscription) and you'll be able to send that link out to anyone.

Once you have your product/subscription is set up you can create a payment link and send it to your customer to pay and start the subscription automatically.

stripe does that for u in its servers, the credit card infos are not shared with the developer, directly from the checkout page to the stripe servers, but for the payments, invoices infos u can store them in ur database

I'm so confused, i have my customers email, i set up a subscription with my product, but my customer has not received any email and suddenly stripe keeps saying "Incomplete- customer has not attempted to pay" but they can't becasue they haven't had an email?? It keeps refreshing and trying to take money from a card that's not there. How can i get my customer to sign up. I thought it would automatically send them an invoice straight away, then they're signed up to the subscription?
Delving into the subscriptions, it looks like the invoices were created (after an hour), yet never gets emailed to your customers, you have to go in and copy the payment link and send it to them, pretty annoying!
