    Hello! I'm from Brazil. Fly fishing for 20 years. I wanted to thank you for the teachings. They opened up a new vision of fly fishing in my life. I have already bought and read the books Strip-set and Dynamic Nymphing. And now I’m watching the videos on CZcams. Keep up the great work! All the best!

    Hey George, I am a beginner at this Euro nymphing and I use it mostly in the spring on a small tailwater in WY. I find it especially deadly at the beginning of a PMD hatch since this tailwater has big rainbows that will move up into the riffles in very shallow water and feed on the emerging nymphs. The Euro rig is really deadly in this instance, when other conventional nymphing methods fail. However, invariably, I want to fish a dry to risers so what I did once was I kept the small copper John on the end of my Euro leader and tied a floating breadline emerger on to the bend of the copper john. This was a funky rig but it worked. There was just enough weight on the leader to cast and by keeping the rod elevated the floater stayed on top. My biggest beef with the euro rig is casting dry flies with long leader. In the evening with no wind, I can manage to cast a single rusty spinner 20 - 30 ft on a euro leader but I suffer otherwise when there is any wind. I hate to carry 2 rods and I love fishing dries too, can your suggest a euro leader formula and casting techniques that work for dries in the wind. Thanks for your input!

    Love when I hear my home waters get a shout out, as well as The French fly Fisherman! Going to have to give this a shot, thanks for the video.

    I'm an old school "Joe Brooks" nympher. Split shot tied to an uncut tag end of barrel knot of the last leader section 12-14" above the fly . I put the rod down for 10 years, but now I'm back. Learning the Farmington. (former Croton/ Catskiller) the trout there don't seem that difficult once you learn the wierdness of the river. I think this used to be called "noodle rodding" (Pulaski) . It makes perfect sense though to recognize that the fish may be looking up somewhat higher in the water column. I have yet to get some copper beads (when I put the rods to rest the last "bandwagon" was cruelty-free CDC) to tie those shiny "jigs" with the new trendy names. Sigh. So 36 feet of leader, huh? Wow . How you were able to cast that overhead without snagging behind you at that bend pool toward the end escapes me. Maybe that's borderline Tenkara Zen technique (sigh 2X) . But that leader formula helps , I thought it would be more complicated. But no way am I gonna spend another 400.00 for an 11 footer. Just hold the 9 footer way up high or tape a broomstick to the butt.

    Great video George, thanks for sharing. I liked the fishing footage at the end of the video. That was an awesome brown with really good fins.

    Awesome video and really proves the point that there are so many different ways to contact (euro) nymph.

    I always use light mono euro system. . . Good video good channel . Excellent info I use a drop shot with this system to get good distance and deep drift when necessary

    Nice video. Would love to hear about transitioning between different setups while fishing, i.e. not having to keep nail knotting different leaders onto fly line.

      read the Troutbitten blog- the author talks about practical ways to switch out rigs at the top tippet ring. But he uses 20lb Amnesia as the butt. Using 2x sighter for 30 feet is just not a flexible rig. It's specialized.

      i bring two rods now: one that's specifically for tight line nymphing, and another one that i can use for dry flies, dry/dropper, and streamers with a more versatile rig like the mono rig

    • @spikeconley
      @spikeconley Před 2 lety

      I needle nail knot a short (6-12") leader butt section to my fly line. I try to match the stiffness of whatever fly line I have. To that, I tie a tippet ring. Then all you have to do to change leaders is cut off at the tippet ring and tie on a new one. So I have 2 tippet rings on my rig.

    This is my favorite system. I use it like Gallup though with drop shot at bottom. Unless fishing super shallow .

    George? What range of weighted flies would work best with this rig? And when going with lighter weighted flies, does using a jig hook make any difference since we're not fishing on the substrate? Would a standard Nymph hook work just as well? Sorry. One more question. Does it make any difference to use a tag while fishing higher in the water column, with this system, or is it just as efficient to fish in line? Thank you for all you do!

    Thanks, George. Great video, not to mention informative. Now, for a question: wouldn't the same goal be met (i.e., using small, lightly weighted nymphs) with a drop shot rig? The added advantage of a drop shot rig is that one can still maintain the same kind of tight contact with the flies that you get with a Euro rig and heavier flies. Thoughts?

    Great video bud. I have been tinkering with the idea of doing a rig like that to see if I like it but I’m afraid to try it because I’m so used to how my leader is set up and how well I can catch fish on it using both heavy and light flies

    What size nymphs do you use with this formula? What kind? Euro jig nymph or something simular..

    Hey George do you have a suggestion for one that would be competition legal. I have a empty spool with braid core line abs I was thinking about putting a French leader on. Any suggestions on what leader formula I should do for a micro French leader?

    I noticed it was a little windy there. Fished with a similar rig a few months ago on a windy day, and the wind just played havoc with my sighter, almost blowing it upstream sometimes, or just holding it steady against the current. It was a challenging day. Any advice for similar conditions?

      I may be able to do something discussing a few helpful tips

    • @justindesign
      @justindesign Před 4 lety

      @@GeorgeDanielFlyFishing thanks. That would be helpful. I was up on Penns a few months ago for a weekend fishing trip when this happened. It was very cold, water was low, very clear and the fishing was slow, but all expected based on the conditions. First, I was patient and waited for the gusts to die down before casting. Second, I tried floating my sighter on the surface with a low rod tip to minimize the impact of the wind on my line. This was met with mediocre results, creating drag and a lack of strike detection. The solution I finally found most productive was to go with a heavier point fly (heavier than I would have normally used) to counter the effect of the wind on my sighter at the surface and for better contact with my rig below the water. I then fished my dropper fly as the pattern i expected to get bit. I fished hard for 2 days and netted two browns, and considered it a productive and educational weekend.
