  • Catching Flounder can be fun at any time, but try spot fishing for them at night with a headtorch and on light tackle. It adds a whole new level of excitment

Ha ha - love it already and I'm only about 1 minute in. Never fished for flounder by headtorch before but I will be now. Get some bigguns this time of year too...shame I can't bloomin drive anywhere

It is so frustrating that we are locked down. I am desperate to try and get some Pike and Perch at this tie of year.

I'm all for Lerfing.....however, this desire to go lighter and lighter is, to me unethical. Using ridiculously light line can only, ultimately result in one thing...a snap off. Then, we leave a fish with a lure in its mouth. It is not necessary. And certainly not fair to the fish. We must always remember, fish are not there solely for our entertainment. Peace.

I agree that using ultra light tackle to deliberately target larger species is wrong, not so much from the aspect of the line breaking and leaving a lure in a fish, as they seem to be easily able to shake a loose hook out, especially if it is barbless, but because you need to completely exhaust a larger fish before you can successfully land it. I see it time and time again with people targeting Carp on ultra light gear.
There is nothing wrong in using 2lb or even lighter line if you are targeting mini species. Tackle up appropriately for your target species and you can have an excellent sporting session with very little harm done to the fish, but at the end of the day it's fishing and you still have to put a hook into them to catch them!!

@@FishingtailsCoUk1 Thanks for the reply. However, I see no proof whatsoever that fish are "easily able to shake a loose hook out, especially if it is barbless".
