Nice new piece of kit Sandy,I have seen it on Paul's channel as you mentioned.Your gift from the seller is a beaut sturdy looking grill platform,I have one of a slightly inferior quality, but it does the trick for me.Good to see a bloke like me who doesnt peel his carrots!
These videos are little gems that I tend to watch at least twice and I often watch them in portions to make them last longer, in a way. You have a rare quality that I think is called screen presence. Wise words about leaving dead wood for the little, but very important bugs!
Yes I know Ade and you too even though you live in Australia are a Viking too:) He eats meat Bjorn. That makes him a viking. He drinks beer. That makes him a double Viking:))
My family is from North Norway and I lived in Norway 14 years and we eat WHALE. My favourite meal is cod tongue. I have been lucky to learn the old ways in Norway. From reindeer heart to smalahova and from lutefisk to pinekjøtt, we eat it all. I am actually Norwegian, British and Australian. Luck me :-)
Great video & leave no trace. Too many folk getting into camping & bushcraft who do not appreciate nature & all its wonders. In Scotland we have the right to wild camp, but with people leaving rubbish & having massive fires & scarring woodlands everywhere I fear we will lose this right. Keep up excellent work & I still hope to get one of Ur fine tools one day, ATB fae Aberdeen
A native American saying (I think I heard from Ray Mears programs): The Indian makes a small fire, sits close and it keeps him warm. White men make a big fire and sit far away. Then keep warm by chopping firewood.
One pot makes a good meal,I let mine cool a few minutes then stir in a pac of powder gravy, thickens too. Enjoyed the spring woods, comming into autumn here.
Gosh Sandy, heard you sigh with relief been able to breathe normally once those beautiful deer passed. What a treat, cooking a tasty stew, a chance meeting with a pal with the most amazing Harris hawk, each day is a blessed and wondrous day, you choose to spend them and share them with us who would love to do the same but for different reasons are unable, so thank you so much. It won't be long before you go in search for a spring tonic, birch:-) keep well, happy and healthy.
I'm always quiet when in the woods Dave. Sometimes if I go out for a camp I won't say a single word or make a sound for the whole time I'm there. It's great
With the fire-bowl on the trivet you've got the perfect damp-ground cooker, & that fire-crane looks as if it just works without fuss. All-in-all good set-up for UK camping. :)
Wiltshire Man - I’m still mostly landscaping. I got in more of the sweet chestnut posts in today and will shortly be getting the wires up and getting the fan trained fruit trees in place. I ordered the wood for the raise beds today. Hopefully start getting some seeds planted soon, onions seed can go in now.
rhialobran - If you have access to a very large trailer and want to bring a load to me, that would be great 👍🏻. Once I have built my raised beds they need to be filled and I am looking for top soil. Mushroom compost would also be good to help break down the clay. If I could seriously get the top soil from you to me with no cost just time and effort, I would.
I do love a hot stew on a winter camp :) loverly stuff Sandy, lucky with the deer too, they have always run when I reach for the camera haha ATB - Andy
The stew looked delicious Sandy. Nice cook set. Really do agree with you about the fires, see the damage and mess caused by unnecessarily large fires all the time. ATB Mac
My 'Sunday Morning' video with my 'Sunday Morning' coffee :-) Wish more people would realize we need to keep in balance with the woods if we are to enjoy the outdoors for years to come and not deplete that last resource as well ! Have you ever done a video on the way you put that shelter up ? A previous comment was correct, it's a Danish Army shelter sheet in M-84 Camo, they can be found mint or grade 1 on E-Bay for approx. 90 Euros ! All the best Sandy, hope you enjoyed your day out as much as we did sharing it with you !
It was a rather odd Winter this year here too. Short but heavy, heavy bursts of insanely cold air then really much warmer than it should be. Very spiky. Tired of it. Leave the trees, well said Sandy. Love the steamer basket idea! They're light and cheap!
Awesome stand there mate...and watching this made me hungry hehe. Those Harris Hawk's are beautiful birds aren't they... amazing hunters. Great video Sandy, best wishes
I read in a book once, it went something like this "The white man builds big fire and sits far away, the native builds small fire and sits close". I think you will see the deeper meaning to that Sandy .. atb, enjoy the snow if we get it. John, West Sussex.
Thats an old saying John and one I am familiar with. Indigenous native folk were/ are much more in tune with their environment than most white domesticated folk. That's for sure.
Looks very tasty Sandy. I'm glad you talked about using to much dead wood in are woodland. My Son and I over the last three years or so have found are little patch has had weekend warriors coming in having a massive fire like it's November 5th. We now find we need to bring wood in so we have fuel to cook. It's not just us that is suffering but more importantly the small bugs that depend on that dead wood and then the nick on effect to the larger animals that depend on them for food. We all hold a small part in the eco system. Great video mate,my Son said could we go and cook tomorrow's chicken in the Dutch oven in the back garden. So chicken casserole for tea.
Nice one Sandy, always enjoy your solo trips to the wood. What with this video and Spring on the way it is giving me itchy feet to be away on my motorcycle once more doing a few nights wild camping. For my birthday my wife bought me one of those Firebox stoves you have featured from time to time. I'll do a video and post it up on my channel sometime. Great to see the deer too; living on the southern edge of Colchester I mostly see muntjac locally.
Lovely video Sandy! ... looking forward to spring ... will take Mrs Dubious camping for a nice meal or two! Bell tent and frontier stove.. she will be comfortable I hope!
Amazing moment when you get so close to wildlife - and they do not notize you. You never forget it. True about all big fires in small woods. Soon it will be nothing left.
Thanks for posting. As always, interesting, informative and thought provoking. Like the trestle rather more than the spike with hooks as it has, as you demonstrated, more than one use. Always a good idea if travelling light. Signs of spring here too, in east Lincs with snow flurries. Soon be greening up all around.
What a treat.....deer and a Harris hawk all in one day! The weather looked lovely and I can imagine this was a great way to spend the day. Loved your cooking equipment 👍🏻
that 1 stake of metal works better than a tripod!! very clever piece of kit may purloin one!! i liked the way that you kept all of your ingredients clean by using the chopping food prep board! then the use of the jacklore just sprung it all back into the dirt for ya!! that was very astute of you to record all 4 roe deer so soon after seeing them!! have you got a go pro hanging off either arm now!! these days!? they move so gracefully i just learnt a technique the other day called deer walking when you move through forests a bit like a deer its a way of noticing far more instead of speed hiking through you did well for them not to sniff or see you standing there sandy and get to film it well done! its moments like that that often go unrecorded harry the hawk seems intent on killing something afore the day is out probably his owner!! :)
Totally agree with you regarding keeping fires small to preserve the woodland as a habitat. I try to use camping gas or the little Lixada woodgas stove for that reason. I despair when I see you-tubers cutting up piles of wood for massive fires that are not needed most of the time.
What a lovely day out! Thanks for sharing that Sandy. I've stopped watching a number of channels now which have videos of folks burning massive piles of wood. They seem to be survivalist drinking weekends and share little with my idea of becoming a part of our countryside. Nice to see the footage of your friends Harris Hawk. A pleasure to watch as always. Al
it can be amazing what happens when you are still and quiet for a while in the woods, i once had a Firecrest 18 in from my face for about 5 mins, magical, very enjoyable and interesting vid, good looking fire kit too , will check that out. atb.
What a nice chilled video. I love to see the food prepped in the woods. I can vouch for the TJM fire anchor too, great quality kit and brilliant for proper cooking over a real fire without the hassle of carrying too much with you if you are wandering.
Evening sandy. Very nice to see the stand. Nice kit an the fire blow I'll have to look in to that. The tarp is interesting good cam by the look of it. Your right about the cold wind buddy. Well thanks for sharing an ya time. ATVB
Nice video Sandy, surprising the wildlife that can be seen on a quiet walk in the woods, your new cooking stand looks well made and useful too :) Good wishes.........Les
Great video Sandy, the deer moment was really something! Food looked great, I really want to try it out. Thanks for the advice on fires, it makes sense to conserve wood.
++Harold clark++ This particular version might be Australian or German but the principal and variations of it are very old. Born of necessity and people's inventiveness no doubt. My own, a long hook with Y shaped prop is made from mild steel rebar.
nice one sandy the bowl is made by uco fire bowl i have the xl one they are great paul has a great channel been watching him for about 6 months love his cooking videos atb stuart
Nice one Sandy :) I used an aluminium tray for most of last year but I stacked it up with some big chunks of birch in December .. now it's a piece of modern art :)
I agree Sandy you don't need huge fires.....this one did just fine. Spring is in the air so you couldn't have chosen a better time to test out the gear and eat well amid the deer and hawks. All the best. Mark
Wow Sandy I had no idea you could prepare a meal that fast. Those chopping skills are legendary. Seems a very clever design used so the pot hangers don’t slip down from weight of laden full pot. Must be a friction method of sorts? 🤔 Very cold snap coming next week Sandy. Again great to see spring on its way.
Great video as always Just checked out the TJM metalworks items on the bushcraft stores website and now I'm sorely tempted to buy the squirrel cooker! Take care

Lovely video. Everything I love about wild camping. Peace, quiet, solitude and a great meal slowly cooked whilst watching the wildlife. Perfect.
These videos are little gems that I tend to watch at least twice and I often watch them in portions to make them last longer, in a way. You have a rare quality that I think is called screen presence. Wise words about leaving dead wood for the little, but very important bugs!
Thanks Bjorn. It must be the Viking in me:)
I think it must be!
You are a Viking Sandy....
Yes I know Ade and you too even though you live in Australia are a Viking too:) He eats meat Bjorn. That makes him a viking. He drinks beer. That makes him a double Viking:))

Nice kit. I like the minimal fire. Good video, carry on.
Its a great bit of kit Sandy, thanks for the mention i appreciate it ;)
Thanks Paul and thanks for the inspiration. I can see this pole cooker getting some use over the next few years.
Sandy
Looked like a tasty meal Sandy, if you wanted some greens with it next time pick the tops off some young nettles.
good one sandy that stew looked good.liked that round fire pit quite a good idea.
Nice bit of kit and great film sandy.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow when you said close you weren’t kidding...love your videos Sandy. Great stuff.
I'm feeling very chilled having watched this now.
Nice video thanks for showing us Sandy, you must of been very quiet for those deer to be so close. 👍🇬🇧
I'm always quiet when in the woods Dave. Sometimes if I go out for a camp I won't say a single word or make a sound for the whole time I'm there. It's great
Great wildlife for you to enjoy Sandy and a hunting Hawk stops by, awesome. Loved the cooking setup mate, really great design. Classic. Cheers Moose.
With the fire-bowl on the trivet you've got the perfect damp-ground cooker, & that fire-crane looks as if it just works without fuss. All-in-all good set-up for UK camping. :)
Great video Sandy. Looked tasty. The steamer basket to hold the fire was brilliant.
Great little relaxing video, just what I needed after a long days digging in the garden...
My allotment is still very sticky underfoot Ant. It's clay soil. Sounds like your making some good progress.
Sandy
Wiltshire Man - I’m still mostly landscaping. I got in more of the sweet chestnut posts in today and will shortly be getting the wires up and getting the fan trained fruit trees in place. I ordered the wood for the raise beds today. Hopefully start getting some seeds planted soon, onions seed can go in now.
I've got 1000 tonnes of top soil if you want to pop down for a car full either of you ;)
Can you dehydrate it please. Makes it weigh less:)
rhialobran - If you have access to a very large trailer and want to bring a load to me, that would be great 👍🏻. Once I have built my raised beds they need to be filled and I am looking for top soil. Thanks for taking us on a fantastic journey.
The stew looked delicious Sandy. Nice cook set.

Another very fine video. Thank you, Sandy. My goodness, that stew looked good!
My 'Sunday Morning' video with my 'Sunday Morning' coffee :-)

Great video, Sandy. I really like the simplicity of what you have done here. It makes it accessible for the ‘everyman’ outdoorsman!
It was a rather odd Winter this year here too. Short but heavy, heavy bursts of insanely cold air then really much warmer than it should be. Very spiky. Tired of it. Leave the trees, well said Sandy. Love the steamer basket idea! They're light and cheap!

Loved this video Sandy ,cant wait to come and go camping with you in july ,not long now all the best Tom.
I will show you these woods Tom:)
That is a privilege, I will really enjoy good on you mate.
A glorious day, deer walk by, Harris Hawk, bird song, one pot meal, beautiful woodland, Wiltshire Man. The perfect recipe :)
A small CW transmitter would have topped it off.
Ade Larsen Very true Ade :)

I think it's becoming a real problem in some area's Leslie. We really should think carefully about how this resource is used.

Nice video Sandy. Roll on the summer!
Nice little adventure Sandy, great to see you out in the forest again. Harry
Yummers! That pot hanger is really clever. Made me hungry when the camery steamed over....😁 special day when the deer come close. Jules
Great vid Sandy...Awesome idea with the vegetable steamed as a fire base....brilliant...
Lovely video Sandy! ... looking forward to spring ... will take Mrs Dubious camping for a nice meal or two! Bell tent and frontier stove.. she will be comfortable I hope!

Nice video Sandy, That's a great wee cooking setup you have there, I like it a lot. Atb Glenn.
Enjoyed that again Sandy, what a lovely peaceful time out. New kit looked good too !
What a treat.....deer and a Harris hawk all in one day! The weather looked lovely and I can imagine this was a great way to spend the day. Loved your cooking equipment 👍🏻
Thanks BG. It was a real treat to see the deer so close. The cooking stands worked perfectly
Cheers for the video Sandy!
Absolutely wonderful. Great food and what a wonderfully made bit of cooking Tools. I thoroughly enjoyed this video my friend. Take care.
A nice stew on a cold day, perfect 😊
lovely vid mate how stealth camping should be.. a peaceful pastime.. enjoying the wildlife... love it
got the same grill stand, excellent quality.....great vid
Thanks for sharing some great moments and hope you enjoyed your stew
that 1 stake of metal works better than a tripod!! very clever piece of kit may purloin one!!
i liked the way that you kept all of your ingredients clean by using the chopping food prep board!
then the use of the jacklore just sprung it all back into the dirt for ya!!
that was very astute of you to record all 4 roe deer so soon after seeing them!! have you got a go pro hanging off either arm now!! these days!?
they move so gracefully i just learnt a technique the other day called deer walking when you move through forests a bit like a deer its a way of noticing far more instead of speed hiking through you did well for them not to sniff or see you standing there sandy and get to film it well done!
its moments like that that often go unrecorded
harry the hawk seems intent on killing something afore the day is out probably his owner!! :)
Good to see you out in the woods doing a bit of cooking Sandy, the stew smelt lovely ..
Would like to see more of the 'Harris Hawk' .
atb t ..
It was a treat to see that hawk Terry. A very noble creature:)
yes, we do not want the beetles going hungry! :) thanks for sharing.
Totally agree with you regarding keeping fires small to preserve the woodland as a habitat. I try to use camping gas or the little Lixada woodgas stove for that reason. I despair when I see you-tubers cutting up piles of wood for massive fires that are not needed most of the time.
Beautiful video Sandy, totally agree on the fact that there is no need for huge fires to cook. Fantastic footage of the deer. Stay well, top man. :-)
Cracking video mate, nice footage of the deer!! Can't beat cooking in the woods one of my fav pastimes. Love a nice one pot meal. 👍

Thanks Al, Yes I've noticed that trend too.
Looks very nice👍
it can be amazing what happens when you are still and quiet for a while in the woods, i once had a Firecrest 18 in from my face for about 5 mins, magical, very enjoyable and interesting vid, good looking fire kit too , will check that out. atb.
Cheers buddy. Great video.
Great Vid fella, nice shout out to the bisser brothers, been watching Pauls vids for a while, alway makes me hungry lol
Looks like a fun day out..Cheers
Good wisdom - Don’t deplete all the woods. That’s good lesson for all of us.
Great to see you back Sandy, missed your videos my friend.
Hi Sandy, thanks for the vid. I like the tarp configuration from what I can tell it's a Danish camo pattern. All the best Demus.
What a nice chilled video. I love to see the food prepped in the woods. I can vouch for the TJM fire anchor too, great quality kit and brilliant for proper cooking over a real fire without the hassle of carrying too much with you if you are wandering.
Thanks Miss Elvy:)
Amen to the small cook fire and not a bonfire, and NO stone circle. One of my pet hates, blackened rocks left at at a camp spot.
Evening sandy. Very nice to see the stand. Nice kit an the fire blow I'll have to look in to that. The tarp is interesting good cam by the look of it. Your right about the cold wind buddy. Well thanks for sharing an ya time. ATVB
great vid thanks !

Great Video
Great video Sandy, the deer moment was really something! Food looked great, I really want to try it out. Thanks for the advice on fires, it makes sense to conserve wood.
We will have to have a get together at some point Toby maybe we could use a friendly farmers wood nr Hereford:)
Brilliant, let's do that!
Like your cook system
Great video, I think it might be an Australian invention as I’ve had a set for 30 years . Great set , great video.
++Harold clark++ This particular version might be Australian or German but the principal and variations of it are very old. Born of necessity and people's inventiveness no doubt. My own, a long hook with Y shaped prop is made from mild steel rebar.
Cold in Hercegovina, too. Snow expected tomorrow * * * until Wednesday!
Well captured footage of the deer, sound eco advice too. Keep on cookin, Yours Ian
great video Sandy :) lovely to see the deer and the good grub. atb
Lovely set up sandy 👍
Great video mate really like the cook stand very clever design and well made by the looks of it, atb John.
nice one sandy the bowl is made by uco fire bowl i have the xl one they are great paul has a great channel been watching him for about 6 months love his cooking videos atb stuart
Thanks Stu, I quite like the little firebowl I think I will use it often. Yor right about Paul. He is one of the good guys:)
Chilled out and informative video as always, atb Steve
Nicely done video bro. ATB
Nice one Sandy :)
I used an aluminium tray for most of last year
but I stacked it up with some big chunks of birch in December
.. now it's a piece of modern art :)
Another cracking film Sandy, thanks for sharing
Thyanks Tom. Will have to get you out into the woods with your camera one of these days.
yeah we need to set something up...
I agree Sandy you don't need huge fires.....this one did just fine. Spring is in the air so you couldn't have chosen a better time to test out the gear and eat well amid the deer and hawks. All the best. Mark
Thanks Mark. It was good to be out there. It was Very good:)
I bet it was Sandy...I know what you were feeling...always such a relief!
Thats it Andy. We are in for a real winters blast. Straight from Siberia they reckon.
Hope you and the family are doing ok and staying warm.
Sandy
This is fantastic low impact stuff in all aspects.
Thanks it's the best way.
Great video. Can’t find those fire hangers! Searched for ages. 🔥
Great video as always
Just checked out the TJM metalworks items on the bushcraft stores website and now I'm sorely tempted to buy the squirrel cooker!
Take care
one youtuber cant remember who said how big is the ring on your cooker i have always try to keep my fire that big love your videos Sandy thank you so much
nice gear and nice vid
Enjoyed that Sandy....nice drop of stew!....
Really relate to this one Sandy. I have a knife similar to that one and it is good. 😁 Can't remember where I got it!!! The firebowl is made by grillipot and i also have a grill which folds up into one of the legs. I usually line the bowl with tin foil as keeps it cleaner for my pack or kayak. Love that cooking pole and checked out his ebay site, but I have just got a stand and dutch oven or else so tempted! Good to see you out having fun. Cheers Mary
Thanks Mary,
Thats the one. I also bought it with a cheap foldout grill but the grill that Trevor sent me is so much better. It should last a lifetime:)
Another good video Sandy, thumbs up from me
I've been hammered with work I need to do this
Do it Paul. You know it makes sense!
Great film, coincidentally I watched one of your old films yesterday of when you bought that pot from Ray Mears they're still 12 quid! regards Mick
Thats it. The same pot:)
A great vid, very good audio :) that metalwork looked top quality. You were lucky to see the deer. Really enjoyed that one :)
I used my Zoom H1 on this one Gary:)
Wiltshire Man massive difference
Good video
