To this day, I still think Lead Me On was her best album, and this one is my favorite song on it. It's the song that introduced me to the brilliant Jimmy Webb.
I dedicate this song to my 4 children. With an almost empty nest this summer I have some adjusting to do. I'm grateful God gave you to me to be your mom. Thank you for the years. The days go slow but the years go fast. Some mistakes were made and I'd make those times perfect if I could. If I could listen better, stop and be more understanding in the moment, and sometimes I wish I had been silent. What I wouldn't change is my pure love for each of you, even through my errors. I'll love you all, always, and I miss you every day you're not here. You'll always be my babies no matter how grown you are. ❤❤❤❤ ~your mama Thank you Amy, I started listening to your music before I ever was married and had children. Thank you for all your 🎶 music. God bless you and yours.
If you could walk in a mile in someone's shoes, you would not judge so easily. Thank you Amy for all the years. You were the reason I as a young teenager started singing Christian music. And at 40 I am still singing your music. Paula
"Memories are such a powerful thing, " she said. No matter WHAT happens to me in life, I pray my memories never fail. I could break and arm, a leg, go blind.. I think I can live but take away my MEMORY... I would verrrrrry sad. Great song, Amy. love you.
Love this song. I used to sing this song with my ex husband years ago. He is gone now. Was a special time in my life. I miss those days. One of her best songs ever! Thank you Amy for touching my soul.
I watch this video over and over. No one sings it like Amy Grant does, and the video broke me up-has me in tears every time I listen and watch.. I would like to dedicate this song to my daughters-Nicci, Jordan, Shelby, Jade. I love you so much!
@@Danimal1577 - Hey at least you got her LAST name right! The 1st time I heard this was by Nanci. A beautiful song but was so heartbreaking to me. It was shortly before I had to leave our house because of a 2nd separation which led to divorce. Was the only home our 3 children grew up in. Sweet, sweet song, but very painful too.
I've probably commented this on every version of this song but no piece of music i've ever heard has ever evoked so much emotion. I've an eclectic taste in music and I consider this the most beautiful song ever composed. Thank you Jimmy
I grew up singing to Amy Grant and even playing her songs on the piano. So truly thankful that God put this phrase is my heart in this moment to be able to reminded of what a great beautiful song this is!!! Mom's, as we sit in our homes, Under This Roof, we are creating legacies and creating that safe place to fall.
It is a beautiful song, and Amy "Faithless Heart" Grant sings it beautifully. I've seen a number of references to writer Jimmy Webb here. Seems most have forgotten that he actually co-wrote the song with a young lady named Nancy Griffith. She died yesterday at age 68. And she did so much more. Thank you, Ms. Griffith.
I love this song so much. It reminds me of my gramma. It brings chills and tears of sadness and joy every time I listen to it. Thanks for this one Amy. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
I've always loved this song since it 1st came out. I can't find proper words to express how much I enjoyed the beautiful, smooth and flowing performance by the piano player. REALLY made me wish I knew how to play the piano. Of course I was thrilled to find a live version of Amy singing. To me, it's the best way to enjoy a talented singers voice. Peace & Love.
i love it too 1 thing amy can do that is the gift of all gifts as a performer is communicate a song her truest gift i think; and she was never undersold as a writer she co wrote with the best young christian performers of the 80's they were amazing for the time she's a very talented Lady
Amy is and always will be someone I will love and hold close to my heart. Her music has blessed me in ways no one can imagine. But then again maybe they can. She is human. I met her once after a concert. Sang a song with 12 other people with her. I thought she walked on water and was perfect. It's a hard lesson to learn our heros aren't perfect. Christ is the only one who is of course. If I judge her and I'm sure I have, It is too my detriment and not hers. I love her inspite of my heavy words.
This song gets to you in the most profound way, feelings you couldn't find a way to say or express , are here.To me it also conveys a feeling of melancholy and lost chances.
Mercy and Grace is what she sings about ....from a very human perspective. She is a big comfort. I suspect everyone on this page feels a bit like me...from the heart. I'm here living in Australia, a man in his forties just feeling like he was 18 yesterday still listening to Amy for the first time. I am married and have been a christian since I was 16. I've struggled with depression ... bad depression in fact for so long. Surely I am not the only one? "If these walls could speak" Indeed.
Love this song and all the precious meaning it brings to mind. Amy, again thank you for writing the storybook of my life. You are loved and lifted up in prayer daily.
Her narrative transforms a beautiful song into a masterpiece. But this song is very hard on people who were raised in dysfunctional troubled families who can't interpret the prologue.
Yes. I lived on the streets from 3d grade on to avoid the screaming. If it had not been for the divine intervention of Jesus I would not be here. I loved the summer vacation at Gramma's (wallpaper smell and all) because it caused life to shut up. Songs like this are a tug of war between refuge and remembrance.
You can! It's on his CD, "10 Easy Pieces", and is a beautiful version. Also included are his versions of his classics such as Galveston, Wichita Lineman, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, and yes, MacArthur Park.
0:22 Amy, if you're trying to tell us that your favorite holiday is Independence Day... can I have a hug for that?!!! I don't blame you, it's seriously the best in the whole year!!!
such a beautiful intro message accompanied by this heart felt deeply thoughtful song.. really nice ..Thank u LORD..and for the post..and thank u Amy..lovely..
Oct 10 1975 After My Brother died at 10 I was 13, I Was So Alone and Lost My Best friend for life, he was My Life and Partner of a lot of ideas/Creativity.. The rest of them where we Lived Just Bullied US BIG TIME, with abuse.. I Felt like I Failed HIM Cause I Could not Protect him that day, and because of that I wish it was me that die so he could Live,, I Felt Frozen..and the Bullying never Stopped but got worst if that was possible.,
While Jimmy Webb wrote the song, Amy (or producer Brown Bannister) made a couple of changes that makes it transcendent. One of them is repeating the last line three times and ending the last line in a whisper which makes it seem to be the last breathe of the person reminiscing followed by the long pause in the music, which symbolizes her death. The music resuming indicates the world goes on repeating the cycle of others going on with life and starting their own family. It is beautiful, sad, and hopeful at the same time.
I do welcome everyone's comments to me...in fact I almost even plead for them. I am a Christian angry and a bit lost in my faith right now. I just wonder if there are others on her who struggle and fail and get so confused with their walk like me. Amy has been a light to me when I first became a Christian. But Christ says to me" What is that to you, Carly?" In fact I'm jealous of her. I wish I could have met married someone like her even. Thougths welcomed greatly to me.
Yup. Wanted to see if Amy was the original writer or not. (Only knew her 1988 “Lead Me On” version, didn’t know it was by Jimmy Webb). czcams.com/video/9dXRtsy4P-o/video.html
Beautiful song, done well by Amy. Only problem is, the original was not about Jesus: who has never come through for anybody. Not even himself. Nor for Amy, actually.
I sang this for my Grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. They are gone, but I remember how they taught me to live, laugh and fish!
I have always loved this Amy Grant song ... so heartfelt and meaningful, even now. ❤
Her version is good but nothing compares to the writers version. Jimmy Webb wrote this song. Several CZcams videos of him.

56 por aqui. Desde 18 anos ouço e canto as canções de Amy Grant. Deus é muito bom, lindas canções.
So glad that you found a person that is a match made in heaven you and Vince are an inspiration to me and should be to anyone who has known you two
It is a good day to remember grandma and her home. Loved you long time, Amy. All so good in you, really as I see, and I understand.
I have to say this is a story that gets me every time. The world could use more Amy Grant's.
the song was written by Jimmy Webb. Beautiful performance.

I never really cared for this song until today. Beautiful.
This song is a gift from God and yo to Amy, best regards from Sweden/ Enrique
It’s actually a gift from Jimmy Webb.
I love this song but right here Amy took it to a whole new level. She tells stories better in her songs, such an amazing and talented individual

Yes, every time
Not until when she sang the: *Don't ever go away* at 6:03...

Nanci Griffith sang the hell out of this song, but Jimmy Webb wrote it.

This song is more than any other song. It is a profound experiemce.
+teddyhug6 this song resonates how I feel about my divorce and more. I agree wit you. Amy is so under rated in her writing ability She's so insightful
+Veronica Herrera the song was written by Jimmy Webb, who played piano the first time Amy recorded it. The song hits one's soul to the core.
she didnt write this
thank you. I always thought she did. : ) One of my fav songs...speaks to me...

This Song makes me Cry...
wow...amy is such a great storyteller and communicator - engaging and captivating. i could listen to hear to talk for hours. amazing!
Love this song, especially tonight, especially the line "Here's someone who really loves you, don't ever go away...."
Jimmy Webb wrote it.
I was waiting for someone to mention that lyric... that part has me in tears every time I hear it...
Abba.... thank you for many blessings
Thanks Lesley/he does a great job. And thank you Jimmy Webb, for such a magical piece of music, May God Bless You!

been a fan since 1980 and her voice has only matured and become richer. She sure grew into a beautiful artist. Great songwriter too!!! my alltime fav
thanks dad for building this house with your own hands for your children, miss you, and sorry for being too busy to pay attention

What a beautiful song. It's always been one of my favorites.
I'm Amy Grant's biggest fan; outside of her own family of course
She is one of the most beautiful artists ever.
Amy is a brilliant storyteller. Beautiful song
Love this song. Amy really nails it. I learned the piano part and sing it myself.
Absolutely beautiful...
Not just a beautiful song but a journey of love and loss.

Well said!
One of my favorite singers singing one of my favorite songs. Totally beautiful.
Jimmy Webb wrote it.
Amy Grant did this a great justice...Jimmy Webb had some deep lyrics.
Covered by many... but this is Beautiful.
Thanks for posting.
;0)
without doubt, the loveliest interpretation of this heart-breaking song.
What about Glen Campbell, Patti Griffith, and Shawn Colvin?
Dan Nájera or Nanci Griffith
It's a beautiful song, no matter who is singing it.
would never go away from loving God's child, Amy Grant
My favourite song of all time...
This is how I feel about the house I grew up in....
I owe Amy and Randy Stonehill so much. Debts only prayer can repay.
She is truly one the world's greatest living artists.
Lovely, tender performance of a beautiful song.
I've loved Amy Grant since her early days and this has to be my favorite of all of her songs.
Jimmy Webb wrote it.

HAHAHAH! I agree. Jimmy Webb probably wrote it about a broken relationship.
.
wish they would have included this one in the live album
Agreed!
But at least we got the Film version... it's good enough for me...
thank you for replying ...really helps
@TadRapidly "parties and people raising hell" was changed. And at the end is "..If they were not so mean..." that was also changed.
Listen to the Glen Campbell, Patti Griffith, and Shawn Colvin versions for the original lyrics.
"MrRyeRye23-I couldn't agree more!! :)
It would be great to hear Jimmy Webb performing his own song, the exact way he wrote it.
I've heard her sing this on some tape but I don't know what one.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET SHEETS FOR THIS SONG???!!!??? I wanna learn it for my mom because she loves this song.
Jimmy Webb wrote it. I would start there.
