@@mariajukejax9649 Yes, strings, material of the corpus itself and also its size make a difference in how it sounds. Also the room you are playing. A microphone does not pick up the sounds the same way our ears do, etc.
@@thomasa.243 And what the uke itself is made from, different woods produce different sounds. I bought a plastic one, and, omg, what a waste of money. It sounds awful. Thank goodness I have other, better ukes on hand LOL
Just take things at your own pace. Everyone has their own individual sound and style. Be encouraged for improvement comes when we love what we are doing.
@@mariajukejax9649 Yeah, definitely. I think, and this is only my opinion, the most important part is the top. Saves a lot of money not buying a completely solid corpus and I am barely able to notice any difference. But, as always, your mileage may vary ;)

I can't seem to get the ukulele sound when I'm strumming. I know the chords and I can strum but it doesn't sound like a uke.
What does it sound like? Maybe you could try changing the strings?
