  • The Port of Geraldton, 424 kilometres north of the state capital of Perth is one of the biggest ports in Western Australia with Grain & Iron Ore being exported daily. A number of ore trains run to the Port from loading facilities at the Karara Mine and Perejori. This video features Distributed Power ore trains with locomotives at both ends running to Karara and 1990's GE P class locomotives hauling Perejori ore trains. Enjoy!
    Trains featured:
00:15 - Empty Karara ore train powers away from Geraldton Port with locomotive ACN4146 upfront & locomotives ACN4174 & ACN4142 at the rear on Tuesday the 28th of May 2019.
02:20 - Loaded Karara ore train departs Monger after crossing a Perejori ore train with ACN4141/ACN4144 upfront & ACN4169 at the rear. Monger is located just south of the township of Mullewa on Wednesday the 29th of May 2019.
04:45 - Triple P class ore train to Perejori approaches Pallotine Rd with P2514/P2504/P2506 on Wednesday the 29th of May 2019. The mine that feeds this operation ceased this year and trains are currently only hauling the last remaining stockpiles to port before ceasing also.
06:30 - Loaded Karara Ore train joins onto the ARC Perejori line at Tilley Junction with ACN4171/ACN4148 upfront & ACN4172 at the rear in the late hours of Wednesday the 29th of May 2019. The line from Tilley junction to Perejori is privately owned and consists of Dual Gauge Sleepers.
10:25 - A empty Karara ore train heads downhill towards Bell to cross an opposing loaded service which can be seen on the top of the next hill.
10:40 - The loaded Karara ore train struggles its way up the grade after crossing the empty service with locomotives ACN4169/ACN4144 upfront & ACN4141 at the rear on Thursday the 30th of May 2019.

i thoroughly enjoyed this. another item mined near perenjori is talc. i used talcum powder from this mine to control a pest ant that had invaded my house. the ants can't stand the stuff and eventually give up and leave.

AURIZON & ARG have much similar colored liveries as the KIWI Locomotives..😃👍

When I make my way over to New Zealand, I'll try not to get confused! Brighter colours are differently better for trains so cars and trucks have no excuses for not seeing them rocketing along!

Perenjori has an "N" in it by the way. I went past the empty load out facility at Perenjori in 2019 and wondered what was the go, now I know why. Thanks for the heads-up and the good vids, the tag lines are a great help. I am curious to know if the additional locos are being controlled remotely from the lead or are there separate drivers in each one?

As it says in the title they're Distributed power which means only drivers in the front locomotive. I'm however unsure if this is achieved by wireless (RF connectivity) or wired (trainlined) means.

is there a map that shows all these iron ore lines with the mines and main roads so one can easily detect where good lookouts are?
