GM10 & GM22 & the ARTC AK Cars to South Australia + Adelaide Hills hyper-lapse!

  • A recent job across to Adelaide south Australia, with the oldest Mainline Locomotive still running revenue services GM10 with its later brother GM22.
The ARTC AK cars record a range of measurements with track and ballast geometry across the whole artc network, SSR haul it through the eastern states, and into south Australia, where GWA/aurizon haul it to Darwin or pacific national to Perth and surrounds.
This run we were to scan all of the loops as the data keeps maintenance up in spots of issue, and keeps these loops in operation.
Video goes for 30 mins. With music on time-lapse shots. Feel free to mute if you don't like the music, it can be thought to please everyone but I try to keep the music neutral as the video is about the scenery from Murray Bridge to Islington, south Australia.
Enjoy, pics on my instagram from this trip at aussie_railpix.
    Cheers ads.

Amazing journey thru many types of terrain. Austrailia is beautiful and the trees hanging over the rail lines something you don't see in America except maybe on a scenic railway. Thanks for the video and the music was a good choice (not elevator music). At 73 I found it pleasing.

I used to travel on the Overlander four times a year during the 90’s and early 2000’s to visit family in Melbourne. The hills are spectacular, especially as winter approaches and the green starts coming back. I don’t remember much of the rest of the route, but coming back into Adelaide was always so exciting. The views as we came down the hills always made me glad to home. I love Melbourne, and I have fond memories of the early 90’s green and gold trams, but Adelaide is my home. The Murray River bridge meant it was time to have my nose glued to the window.

Often hear you and the mighty beasst coming through Eden Hills and through the Sleeps Hill tunnel, sometimes at 1am. If the wind's in the right direction I can hear the throbbing of the engine, and the screech of the brakes. In the 60s and 70s sometimes took the train from Adelaide to Mt Gambier (the Bluebird?) and before that one of the old red trains with timber interiors and black and white framed pictures of local landmarks from the 30s. That was until the Mt Gambier line was closed down in the 70s..Mmmm I'm getting old.

You capture the raw beauty of the rugged Australian landscapes in an unconventional way and indirectly sell Australian as a great country to live in and vist. I maintained the EM80 for a few years which was based at Islington and did the same system runs as the AK's the EM80 recorded at 80km/h and did the same runs, Adelaide Sydney, Adelaide Perth, and Adelaide Darwin as a single car with two operators.
