The best part is that Christopher Spitzmiller is an inspiration even for those with slender means. He really has great ideas and fabulous taste. I have recently inherited six grandchildren in distressing five year long custody case. However, I decided early on that even though we are stuffed in my cottage (with a large yard, fortunately), everything these kids saw and used and touched would be fabulous. I make sure we have beautiful table linens, our couch and love seat is covered with washable colorful indian cottons. My persian and tribal rugs take a beating--- everything does, but darn if the dogs and cats aren't eating off Bavarian china and Limoges. As a history teacher (who now will be teaching until I die) they are growing up with a horseshoe from Waterloo, a collection of old daguerrotypes, and autographed letters and all sorts of artifacts that fill my shelves and bookcases. In the kitchen, I could not bear the thought of taking down my toile wallpaper that had dated. So this summer, I started decoupaging hundreds of old pages on the wallpaper from books and emphera I have collected for years. I've modged podged everything from 1920s sheet music covers to letters addressed to her Majesties secret service...I just put up a trove of scrapbook pictures collected by someone who was a Dionne quintuplet's fan.The kids love looking at all the things on the walls. Sorry to go on....but I think that people don't realize that their beautiful interiors really can be a gift to others.

I enjoyed seeing your interview with the wonderful Mario Buatta, one of my absolute favorite decorators. I hope you will someday get a chance to ask him to share his famous apartment on video. Many many years ago I happened on a chance to join a group to hear him speak as well as to have lunch with him. The group was made up of just four women and Mr. Buatta. He entertained us all with his sense of humor and fun decorating tips.

The theme music drives me nuts so I have to skip it. I thought the house was beautiful, but some of the wall papers were far too heavy and claustrophobic for me. patterns are lovely on a theme wall. Well that's how I feel about it.
