- As a priest, I have a lot of people asking me about relationships and marriage, especially in the Catholic Church. So, what’s the point of marriage and how can that point us toward evaluating/discerning a future spouse? I hope this video on the top 3 terrible, but also very common, reasons to marry someone is helpful!

My Mom used to say a decision about marriage should be made at one year of dating & if the answer is no, move on so you’re available for someone else. This is excellent, wise advice.
Absolutely. I wasted my 20s on relationships that went nowhere. I wised up in my thirties. I met my now husband and in 6 months we were talking about marriage. 10 months after that, we were married. I firmly believe that it is especially to the woman’s disadvantage to date too long. It eats up our fertile years and we age.
It really doesn't take more than 3-4 months to figure this out about someone, despite what the long dating culture says.
@@AntiAshleygenerally I think there’s a lot that can be learned by it going at least a year, but that doesn’t mean waiting 6 years to get engaged
And don’t get married because people pressure you or because others are
This is great advice Father David. The truth is, if all you value in a partner are things that are temporary - money, looks, and romance - your marital bond has a higher probability of being temporary as well. If you root our values in the transient, nothing about your relationship will last. Instead, when looking for a life long partner, look for things that endure the test of time. Look for qualities that will endure the various vicissitudes of life.
God bless you Fr David!
Great video!
Keep them videos coming father. Love the topics you are selecting!!
Thank you Fr . This was helpful.
Interesting viewpoints shared. Thanks!
Father!! As always the truth sets us free! Hitting the nail on the head! 👍🏾
Agree these would be bad reasons. Being in love with someone is different from just loving someone. Blessed in my marriage but some marriages go through so much.
Like Mark Ruffalo tells Kiera Knightley in Begin Again (movie): ….You have no idea what happens between two people after 18 years of marriage….
Such wise advice.
Thank you Father for your advice God bless
Please do a collab video with 'Breaking the habit'
God bless you
Thank you- truth! 💜🙏🏻💜
I’m your biggest fan
Thanks you father here from McAllen Texas
McAllen! I was born there, your the first time I’ve seen anyone mention that in CZcams comments
I lived in Mcallen for 13 years (4years ago). My whole family is still there☺️

“Hey Father, I just came here to bankrupt satan’s economy” 😇
Hahahaha confesión
I rather stay single than getting a luke warm catholic or just any body
Dear Sir, please do one on having a baby to fix a messed-up marriage. I have heard this many times.
Very true
I'd love to see the Top 3 BEST Reasons to Get Married (from a Priest) video :-)
#3 is an interesting point because billions of people over thousands of years have married for money and done pretty well! But I get what you're saying.
Father where do you order your cassock?
🙏

What about the rare folks who don’t fall into marriage or religious life?
consecrated virginity, secular institutes, third orders, or a path to holiness only known to God :-)
glad I'm single
I got married because I thought it would “fix the gay.” (It doesn’t.). And yes, I “repented” and tried for years and years to pray the gay away. It doesn’t work. I should have said to heck with Catholic guilt, and married a good gay Christian.
Brave. I couldnt do that with my scrupulosity.
The hell? Being gay is your cross. You suffer that cross your whole life doesn’t mean it’s better to live in sins 😂
Getting knocked up is no reason to marry.... but that’s probably pretty obvious...
Slightly off topic, did God when he was a man on earth eat pork?
No, Jesus Christ was a practicing Jew and observed all the dietary laws, even though he declared all foods to be “clean”.
@@tlw1950 when did he declare all foods to be clean ?
Mark 7:19
@@tlw1950 ALL Kosher food.
Then why doesn’t it say that?
HOW WOULD YOU KNOW !!!
He hears a whole lot of confessions remember😊
It was solid advice tho
