Excellent ! Ruth, you made visual calculation christal clear. This is also in Service this month, and this is very tricky to use especially in non US language.
Thanks for this video Ruth. I prefer your videos over others for many reasons, including making short to the point videos (this one) and longer (DAX fridays) when needed, vs one 30min+ video that you have to sit through because there's no context around what's covered. Thanks again :)
Thanks! :)
To edit a calculation formula just click on a calculation representation in Values well, then “Edit calculation”. For me the main profit from this feature is the ability to hide columns, which was impossible to do before.
You can edit the visual calc in the formula bar. First click on the visual calc which will be on the lower right side of your power bi. Then put your cursor on the visual calc and edit
So helpful to me right now
Thanks for sharing! We are just starting on this journey, loads will be improved over the comings weeks and months. Rows is not in scope though.
For me the use case would be self-service BI if you need a calculation but cannot change the semantic model. Otherwise, the lack of reusability makes it a governance and consistency nightmare. But the hide column feature itselfs is a nice addition if you can also use it without visual calculation and still sort by a hidden column.
True! That is neat indeed :)
Thankful for closed captioning
Tack Ruth!
What if we have field parameters in visual, Can we use visual calculations if yes please let me know
Can you add a "calculation" which is a text content/note/explanation against a line?
Not sure, but you can do that with normal DAX
Interesting 🤔
Does the feature work in the service?
I should, have you tried?
@@CurbalEN I tried editing the report in the service but there doesn't seem to be an option to create such calcs in the service.
I also got a warning message saying "This visual contains a visual calculation which can't be edited. Changing the fields on this visual may break the calculation."
We can't format the calculation either, in regards to decimals etc.
@visheshjjain Sorry I misread your comment. I dont think you can create visual calcs on the service just view them
You can't yet, but will be able to create and edit visual calculations very soon.
Its not showing in my desktop,
How to get this feature
Please reply 😅
Enable it in your preview features
@@dutchdatadude thanks I will try it
Looks like a lot of work, the new calculation. I would not use it. Thanks for the info, Ruth!
It is useful in certain scenarios like building financial statements (if they develop it further). Keep an eye on it!!
@@CurbalEN But I'll have a need of this formula in several visuals and even reports, and that's not even counting the fact you can't change it. But I'll keep an eye on your channel to see any possible improvements :)
Mmm.. not sure about this feature
It is great for certain things like building financial statements
Hmmm RUTH, NOT youre best tutorial, see bas Dohmen explanation
What did i say wrong 😂😂?
