My favourite scene of the whole movie- Heath ledger and his men against the Green Dragoons. The Patriot (2000) Directed by Roland Emmerich All rights reserved
A shepherd must tend to his flock. And when necessary, drive off the wolves. Side note, observe Tavington's little smirk when he sees the Reverend turn his attention away from him and toward helping Gabriel. He knew it was buying him the few extra moments he needed.
"Your parents were meddlesome fools too" "You know what I've noticed? If things go according to plan, no one panics. Even if the plan is horrifying. But if I say that one, little old red coat will die, well then EvErYbOdY lOsEs ThEiR mInDs!" --- "Ah yes, Draco's told me all about you. And your parents. Colonists, aren't they?" ---
I love how Tavington NEVER misses with a pistol! LOL! Yeah, I know it's a movie but come on. He hits everything with one of the most inaccurate weapons of the war.
Dragoons have a bonus to fast reload, accuracy and two handed attack. Plus they have a areal effect on militia troops of -2 defense and -2 intelligence. And yes that stacks once militia finishes their ambush ability.
The Joker never stood a chance against Lucius Malfoy but I'm shocked that he stood a chance against Lu Bu (from Dynasty Warriors played by voice actor Jamieson Price whom played Captain Bordon).
Yes, tell me more about how flintlock pistols are effective at that kind of range. I don't care if you're some super-badass British Cavalry officer, flintlock pistols of that era had an effective range of like 15-25 yards on their best day.
Tavington is my first onscreen character crush. Still is. I don't watch the end fight. To me Tavington lives on. Jason, a great actor and swordsman. I would love to see him and Viggo Mortensen have a go at fighting with each other.
***** I don't know man, id say yes and no. what we were lead to believe is England overtaxing the hell out of people they didn't like it and left. what REALLY happened as to why the pilgrims broke off and came to America, I don't know. ive heard many things. ive heard the Collins were a group of witches who were being hunted down and came to America to escape persecution. if this is the case then yes they should have been caught and killed. but nevertheless, its all biblical prophesy falling into play either way :) this nation is relatively 200-300 years old and is now one of the greatest superpowers of the world, even if we are being lead to believe we are in an economic downfall and no longer num 1 and declining. hell, the whole damn earth is in that same shape according to the media anyhow. but if the overtaxation thing is true then I very much agree we should have left and why we didn't want to go back! and you would have too, obviously. now do I believe all the king and queens men wanted to come over here and mass murder those who "rebelled" the motherland, no.
***** I cant say id like being under a monarchy cause its not working, and obviously the way shit runs in USA def isn't working either. there is no good anymore in gov/politics. almost none! its all corrupt and evil to the core in the end.
Jonny Roach I agree totally. The governments of the West have gone to shit. The only thing I would correct you on is that even though our Monarchy is head of state, it isn't the government anymore and wields next to no power over us now. :)
This is the scene that showed Heath was getting ready to be the joker. Very powerful. But and however like Ryan George says. “… the movie isn’t over yet…”. and it wasn’t time for Tavington to die. He wasn’t going to go out shaving. Mel had to kill him in the end. What this showed is that Mel’s sons had no fear in taking him on and that they would always be better than Tavington. Mel taught them well.
Yes but Tavington can use two weapons too. When fighting Mel Gibson, at one point, he had his sword in one hand and a dagger in the other. He was also still wounded from the scrap where he kills Heath Ledger (a gunshot wound to the side) and took a pistol shot in the left shoulder just before the duel, and still managed to trample Mel Gibson. And, though I'd say neither has the advantage in speed, Tavington's sword has the advantage in reach over Magua's tomahawk.
David Frigault Well of course it always depends on the writer. Aside from that, I've never seen a war reenactment with tomahawks. I do reenactments of French knights in the XVth century. But the colonial wars ought to be interesting. I have a pretty good idea of a tomahawk's power. They're small, so quick to use, but have enough weight behind them and the small axehead concentrates the weight on a smaller point than most battleaxes. Their balance makes them good throwing weapons too. There's a reason they're still used by some Special Forces units (namely the Spetsnaz I think) today, and still appear in most magazines of military gear. But I highly doubt it could break a sword. Already it needs to score a clean hit on a fast-moving blade, and even then the blade is more likely to be knocked aside than broken. To break it, he'd have to trap the tip somewhere to hold the weapon still, and then bring the tomahawk down straight onto the blade. And while he's doing that, Tavington has free rein to use his dagger.
Is there a reason Tavington, his second, and these other three dragoons were seperated from the rest of the company? They should have all been together on their way to Black Swamp
Rear guard could be a reason or they could be one of those aristocratic units like some in Horse Guards that can simply have some peace to shave and do whatever since this clearly is not based on the green-coated loyalist cav under Tarleton who Tavington is based.
Because Tavington asked his commander to let him go off the grid and basically do whatever it takes to get an advantage in the war. Like burn churches while people were locked in (Like Heath Ledgers girlfriend)
ErikBrantley33 Uh, Tavington kind of brought his whole company, both infantry and cavalry, after his commander let him go off the grid. With them he torched Aunt Charlotte's house, tortured prisoners according to one deleted scene, and burned the church. Here, for some reason, he, his second, and those other three are seperated from the rest of their company. I'm just going to call plot convenience so that Heath Ledger could actually have a go at Tavington. And seriously, what the hell? Dragoons are allegedly trained soldiers and these are militia. Here, the three other dragoons fail to hit anyone in a mob of charging riders and fall like flies at pistol shots from militiamen on horseback and any that remain get owned in close quarters by militia. Tavington practically slaughters the rebels singlehandedly, and his second is the only other one to do anything even remotely significant. Overall, a cool scene but that makes no sense when you think about it.
Rear guard could be a reason or they could be one of those aristocratic units like some in Horse Guards that can simply have some peace to shave and do whatever since this clearly is not based on the green-coated loyalist cav under Tarleton who Tavington is based. Also, bribing officers, as described in Ye Madcaps of England tells that could get you freed up from duty and let you do whatever you want. Or, or just maybe, this is like the actual Tarleton's dragoons attempts to kill guerilla leaders but it was a joint effort and was not like portrayed in the film and Tarleton never died, he was too good and at the end of the war still controlled territory. He died in England many many years later a hero.
Like it or not, history is history, and if you disagree well that's too bad. The fact of the matter is that the militias in South Carolina outsmarted and bested loyalist, regulars and even elite units such as Tarleton's green dragoons time and time again. Sorry :-)
This is going to sound kind of strange, but when I first saw this movie Heaths death (In the movie) really bothered me. I'm a action and horror junkie so movie deaths don't faze me. Yet his death for some reason was hard to watch. Now all these years later it makes sense. After his death I had to always fast foward this scene until now. Anyways...RIP Heath.
It’s his eyebrows as he’s dying. It’s regretting the greedy mistake to have the final stab, realizing he won’t see his family again, won’t love, have kids, let his dad down, won’t see the end of the revolution and a free America. Great acting without saying a word.

the one part I don't get is how was tavington able to get xtra ramrods for his pistol. I have a flintlock pistol and use paper cartridges and can reload in less then 11to13 secs without throwing the ramrod out.
***** to answer your question I do own a tactical ak47 and I have several semi automatic handguns and a lot of people have black powder firearms themselves. a lot of the reason is for curiosity and I believe that in the end of the world scenario like a zombie outbreak flintlocks are more practical to have cause flints, lead, and black powder materials can be found anywhere and is very natural. perhaps you should look up some youtube videos on flintlock guns and I highly recommend videos from murpheysmuskets who has a lot of info on the subject
Drew Winkler thats my point is that the only possibility is he had spare ones but im just saying its simple enough to not throw it away or you can even keep it in the other hand cause its not fun shooting those pistols wit two hands. i tried it before and it didnt work. i understand how shooting horseback you might drop ur ramrod so its reasonable to carry spares but if ur standing up its kinda dumb to do
@Amksed Please bro we are talking about history here, not current times. Anyone can say well today America is the strongest etc. that takes all the fun out of the debate.
@MajBlood And how would things end up today if Americans were fighting Britain? The past is the past. I'm not trying to sound arrogant but America IS the dominant country in todays times.
Gay. This is stupid. Ok guy dies tosses Gabriel the gun, that's how a man dies, Oh i lose better luck to you here take this. Gabriel gets stabbed... Dies... the end. My thing would be I get stabbed, then i grin in a homicidal way and slide down the blade forcing my blade into the Colonels chest. I guess Gabriel didnt love that girl enough to go total bad-ass.
I love how the Reverend helped out Gabriel, even knowing he was going to blow the chance of getting out alive.
Though the reverend could do nothing about the sins of his father.
Felt sad when the pastor got shot and perished
As a kid i thought, damm not him

doesnt die to shot in stomach and walks away fine, but it was dumb to try to finish him with knife, couldve used a gun.
Tavington definitely has some sort of fast reload or accurate aim perk :P
+3 accuracy when you're the boss

that was a fast reload for Tavington lol
2:11 - One of the funniest slo-mo deaths I've seen
The Joker never stood a chance against Lucius Malfoy but I'm shocked that he stood a chance against Lu Bu (from Dynasty Warriors played by voice actor Jamieson Price whom played Captain Bordon).
Especially since Lucius Malfoy, a pureblooded wizard, would never use muggle weaponry.
Tavington: So...Dead.
Heath: "How bout alive?"
Not even Mr. House could stop such a mighty wizard.
I'm American and I love Tavington, too. Everyone loves a good looking badboy.
RIP Heath Ledger.
When Heath shot Tavington, someone in my audience actually yelled out, "Yeah!". LOL.
Splendid music this is!
Mr John Williams always has made great tunes!
Dammit Joker you like knives too much
You can tell in his eyes that Tavington did not take pleasure in killing the Joker.
i was expecting someone would shout "avada kedavra"

Tavington is one of the most evil and mean characters in the whole cinematography
It helps that Jason Isaacs was perfect as Tavington and is a brilliant actor.
Sebastien P. And totally made up by the script writers.

Tavington was a made up character. The person it was based on was not as bad as Gibson made out and was not killed by Gibsons character!

And now Gabriel looks at Patrick Bateman as his next challenge
