One of the heavyweight grudge races of the night was between Turbo Joe's Turbocharged Buick Regal and Gone Hollywood's Monte Carlo SS 'Silverback Gorilla'. Turbo Joe took 1 and the brake in the $10,000 gbody drag race and made it one of the closest races of the year!

The front half that the Silverback has is classic nitrous.....he hits it from jump and goes. A turbo car on rims without some traction control, slicks and suspension tuning will blow the tires off. If any of the better turbo racers get that front half game together, bottle combos will get smoked.

When he pedalled it to put the fire out ( mistake ), TJ was on the move and passed him ( no bottle pressure blues to worry about ). I think the Silverback has a Glide in it and it's geared to run through the lights at 8000+ rpms. If Gone Hollywood had either a lockup convertor or an extra gear he coulda pulled it out, but the car was maxed.
Hands down one of the best races. Looked the Hollywood had a small issue at 100 ft to finish. Damn good race. Hats off to you both.
When he popped, it was game over. If GH stayed in it, he might have won. TJ and that turbo were waiting and gaining and got the win.

A decent amout of compression ( 12:1 and above )
Cam is ground to make power to 9000 rpms +
6000 stall convertor that flashes to 8000+ because he leaves on nitrous
Geared to run 8500 rpms through the lights
Notice that it revs like a lightswitch? A heavy, street style engine with no compression in it can't do that. And the fire coming out the headers proves that the cam timing and LSA are helping make power on the top end ( cam timing used for in cylinder heat management.....keeps it alive with big kits.....thats why you see nitrous racers with candles coming out the pipes.....the one's you don't are pushing it to the edge. )

Nah mayne......Turbo Joe has a real street car, mild cam, big turbo and it's tuned really well. Gone Hollywood's MC is a full blown race car on rims. Big compression, big cubes, big cam, big stall, big gear, big juice. Bet he can't drive that thing around on pump gas. It's always on edge. Can a bottle motor be more stable...yeh....you can make it as driveable as you want. But Silverback's combo ain't there. It's just nasty.
