  • Following on from a previous tutorial where I demonstrated how I like to do a dry sponge roller set in this video I show you how I brush that set out!
    My method is pretty simple, not too technical and works great for medium length haircuts, especially when cut in the vintage style.

    This is an older video, so I doubt you’ll ever get to read this comment, but I’d like to thank you, for keeping history alive. Also for doing a very good job at it, the hair style is very pretty and reminded me a lot of pictures I’ve seen of my great grandma’s, so thank you for that as well.

    Thank you so much for giving so many tips, speaking slow enough that I could follow, and giving reasons why you are doing something and not just narrating. You're a sweet sweet lady that is an amazing hairdresser but also wants to share her styling tips with the world and not keep them to herself. I look forward to watching many more of your thorough tutorials in the future. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

    I think it's awesome how our grandmothers and great-grandmothers did this hairstyle nearly every night/morning using nothing more than foam rollers a little setting lotion and Aqua Net Hairspray!

    I've never been one to fuss over hair and have never really worn make-up. But I just love this vintage look and I want to do it. So this is like valuable research to me.
    I just can't imagine that the women of the day used to do this every dang day?!
    This explains the 3 tons of sponge and velcro rollers my Nana had under her bathroom sink. Real vintage rollers that I wish I had kept. >.

    • @emmagnolia4271
      @emmagnolia4271 Před 4 lety +4

      Haha I feel that! A lot of women in the day would only curl their hair once a week, style it, and keep it in a bonnet at night, that way they’d only have to touch it up day to day, making the maintenance a lot quicker than most people think!

    My grandmother set her curls just like this (minus all the hairspray because she had natural curls) for years, but she had short, curly forehead bangs. That was back in the early 40's, but it's still a beautiful look!

    My go-to method for removing extreme product buildup is to cover my hair in conditioner and leave on for an hour (give or take) before washing off.
    I mix my favourite conditioner with a little bit of water to make it runnier (not an issue if the one you use is already runny), apply to dry hair so it is completely saturated, then cover with a shower cap. I rinse off after an hour, but I've left it longer without issue. You just don't want it to dry out and crust up, which is what the shower cap is for.
    I have heavily dyed red hair and use an SLS/paraben/sulphate-free conditioner, and it doesn't strip the colour out of my hair and leaves it clean and soft.

    What I find works well to eliminate the hairspray build-up is a spritz bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol, 10% rose water. This works on wigs and real hair. The alcohol breaks down the hairspray bonds and revitalizes the chemicals so I recommend working with light sprays and moving quickly because it dries relatively fast. The rose water isn't strictly necessary, but I find it softens the acrid smell of the isopropyl, especially when used on real hair.

    Where I live it is quite windy and what I do to keep my curls from being blown around is I use a thin hair net that matches my hair color to keep everything together. It works great only problem my hair does end up losing the curl if I do not reset it over night. And the hair net ends up less hidden. And the top of my head looks like I slicked it down into a 1920s-1930s bob. Which was not my intention. And no amount of back combing would bring it back to life. The ends of my hair wound up being frizzy and wavy after trying to back comb.

  • @Gomba13
    @Gomba13 Před 2 lety

    I disagree that you need to get your hair crispy with hair spray. That works for people with thick or abundant hair, but for fine or thin hair, it does the opposite: it weighs it down. Also, people with fine or thin hair, when using enough spray to make their hair crunchy, lose volume and their hair gets sticky and looks dirty.
    I accept that my hair is not frizz free and not perfect, and what I do is use some spray and then gently scrunch the curls with my hand and hold until it sets. If anything is out of place after that, I spot correct that one little curl. I do sometimes use hair spray on just a single curl, in which case I spray my fingers instead of the hair (so that there is no spray anywhere else than on THAT curl) and rub it over the curl, then use a finger as though it were a roller and hold until it sets.
