    Nice clock, I make clocks too, but I’ve never seen one like that. I’ve been contemplating s river table, maybe a clock would be good practice. Thanks for sharing.😀

    Beautiful clock, I kind of wished the numbers were more prominent and the hands longer, but that’s just me. You have made a beautiful river clock, I haven’t seen one of these made anywhere before, so, fantastic job, I’m sure your method will be used by others. Xxxxxx

      Thank you so much Elaine! I actually installed larger hands on it after I shot the video. The hands are now the same as the ones I used on my 2nd River Clock video. I agree the numbers are a little off. I used a basic clock kit from an art store. In the future I'll shop around for more interesting clocks kits.

    nice effort, i wish if the battery wasnt showing up from the center!

      I agree. If I had a planer at the time I would have thinned the piece down so that I wouldn't have had to recess the clock.

    Absolutely beautiful!! I wasn't sure I would like the battery part being visible but at the end it just worked. :) Would have been sweeter if the mechanics of it were also visible. Maybe someone makes translucent or clear ones? :D - Heidi

    Not bad apart from mechanism installation. Would be much better to have it hidden. So blue epoxy should fill whole depth of river I guess. Now you cut out blue one in mechanism area and mechanism is fully visible.

    This is fantastic Jim. Personal opinion though, I think it could use with longer clock hands.

    I use Famowood resin also the clarity is very good and easy to use. Nice job on your clock.

    Nice build. It surprised me how you made the "river". I expected it would be routed out, max till half the depth of the wooden circle.

      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 5 lety

      With this project I wanted the river to be more transparent with the resin. I could see doing another clock like the way you're describing. Thanks for the input!

  • @ricksmotorizedbikeprojects9572

    Good job. Other than butcher block! Natural wood man would have brought it along a bit more. Other than that you got the right idea. Just try to miss the clock works with the river. Its not a clear glass window in a wrist watch, right? Or was that what you were going for. If so try to find some old gear workings from a bit larger time pieces and create a see through river clock that way. Perhaps in cypress or oak or some solid tree section. Great job for sure.

    What did you use to make mold my husband's been trying a couple of different methods and trying to get the clock out is a real pain in the rear yours just looks so easy to pull apart.

    • @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357
      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks for asking. I used an old vinyl floor mat and cut out the smooth side into a strip. What I would recommend is using a mold made with silicone or using a silicone spray with a mold. Silicone doesn't bond with resin so it can be more easily removed. Hope that helps!

    Using your neat idea as a basis, I'm routing out the river, including small islands, and when complete I will share with you andgive credit to you for my project. What liquids were you using to darken the banks, please. Like other, I will continue to follow your channel.

      Hey Floyd. I'm glad you liked it. The way your designing and making sound pretty cool. I need to make another wood and resin clock. I would totally like to see what your clock looks like when your done. Cheers!

    Nice job. Maybe next time though you should put it on a jig for final rounding. Doesn't seem to be quite a "perfect" circle. Inspiring video, nonetheless.

    • @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357
      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 5 lety

      I totally agree, I should have done that. I will have to make a jig for that soon. Thanks for watching and the input. Cheers!

    You can nice drawing cool men learn me ☺ and how thick is you wood that you use for the clock

    • @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357
      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 4 lety

      The wood was about one inch thick. Too thick of the clock kit I had. Which is why I had to recess the clock. If I had a planer at the time I would have made the piece thinner so the clock kit would have sat on the clock hidden, as it normally would.

    What did you use on the wood parts?

    • @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357
      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 4 lety

      Hi. Thanks for watching. I used a rounded glued panel from the local hardware store. For future rounded clocks I would like to cut the panels myself and use a planer to size them down. I hope that answers your question :)

    How many grams of resin do you use?

    • @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357
      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 5 lety

      I honestly don't remember. I was making the resin as I needed it. I hope to get more on point with my resin use and measure it out properly. Thanks for watching!

      Hey, Jim! Love the clock..great ideas for those of us that wither can't afford the "big guys" wood or those that only have access to hand tools!!! I'm curious, tho, where did you get that mat? I understood everything else!! Hope you will read this as I just found this video and it's a few years old... :)

    • @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357
      @jimvargas-thewoodworkingil9357  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching. The clock numbers i used where from a standard clock making kit that you can find at an art store or even some hardware stores. In the future I would like to use more customized numbers. Hope that helps.
