Visiting An Indonesian University đźđ©

- Today my friend from Japan is taking me to visit her school at Padjadjaran University. She kinda freaks me out at first by telling me that I'll have to be a guest lecturer and give a lesson, but I think she was just trying to mess with me. I ended up just having a quick conversation with them in English. They are all pharmaceutical/international students and so they all study English, but they might not always get a chance to speak with a native English speaker so it was great to be able to help out. It was an honor to visit their school and meet everybody. I got to sit in on a lab experiment where they were testing the effects of caffeine on mice. Sounds simple enough but as you'll see in the video, it doesn't always go as planned. It was really seeing an Indonesian university, and thank you Miski for letting me visit!

#bandung #padjadjaran #indonesia
Going back to school! thank you Miski for letting me visit Padjadjaran University, I had a great time!

I am alumni đ
Jatinangor is where I live
asli, ini vlog indonesia tripnya lain daripada orang asing lain. bisa masuk kampus, cobain krim pemutih, beli teh tong tji. hahaa. seruu banget nonton semua videonya nick.
Yess ⊠klo aku sih suka vlog kayak gini lebih natural tanpa setting settingan hahaha
Karena dia udah lama di Indonesia
Tonton juga channelnya Dale Philip gan
Nick ini malah nemuin wahana wisata aneh sedunia yakni Atlanris Kenjeran Surabaya, kemudian ada youtuber keluarga Amerika juga kesana mereaksi: warrior awakening nama channel vlog-nya (asli ngakak ATLANTIS dihubungkan dgn Alexander Graham Bell/penemu telpon) just kidding..đđ

Dude, it was such a privilege to be able to walk inside one of the best universities in Indonesia. Normal Indonesian outsider wouldn't have a chance to attend a class like that, not to mention your short pants and collarless shirt đ but it was definitely not your fault because you got a surprise trip. But yeah, definitely a cool experience. So lumpia is basically a spring roll, but in Indonesia it comes as the "basah/wet" one and "kering/dry" one. The dry one is deep fried with the skin, and it's another kind of delicacy. If you visit Semarang, you definitely gotta try one. It's one of their signature dishes, along with Soto Bangkong and Rujak. Whoops, I'm drooling!
It was quite an interesting experience for sure! and maybe I should of dressed up a little, but I didn't even know I was going so you can't blame me đ

Respect this man for actually doing these entertaining stuff while traveling, if I was you, I would just enjoy my stay rather than learning about stuff
This was interesting to see (well, apart from 'finishing off' the mice, which I skipped). Indonesian university students are so smart and motivated, especially the girls. I worked with 2 female university students from Jakarta (twins) at one of our programs for Designers against AIDS (social media specifically for Indonesia) in 2014. Great memories of that.
thanks Ninette! I just sat there the whole time and acted like I knew what they were talking about lol
This was actually quite a fun, unexpected adventure. Thank you again for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always amaze with your spectrum of friends that you met during 11 years in Japan. You are blessed Nick. Keep the Spirit!
that's what is great about living abroad, you meet people from all over the world
This guy only has 30k subs, but almost 10k views in just 4 hours. People definitely look forward for your new videos. Keep them coming. đ

@@charis7515 but it's at least top 10 right?

Bandung during the Dutch occupation used to be given name Paris van Java. it was beautiful, clean, very cold air. I always spent holidays and weekend in Bandung as a child until high school. it wasnt crowded place and in the morning up to 9 am the sky filled with fog and so in the evening, The sound of tonggeret welcoming the sun made us fell like in the middle of the forest, it was so natural and the air was so clean and cold, pollution free. Tonggeret is kind of tree bugs (cicadas?). But today Bandung is just another overcrowded polluted place with traffic jam all over the city. It's no longer Paris van Java.
West Java has the largest population in Indonesia, no wonder Bandung it's overcrowded
yes thanks to the Textile factory boom started in 1970s-1990s. Thats what mostly drove Bandung to the mess we know today.
Pertama kali ke bandung 2010an masih denger suara tongeret bahkan di pinggir jalan, tapi beberapa tahun belakangan ini kalo ke bandung hampir ga pernah denger lagi suara tonggeret đ aku biasanya stay daerah buah batu
@@ilhamrj2599 even in 1979 Badung was still way much nicer although I have to agree with you it started to be packed. after my brothers graduated from ITB and my uncle passed away, I practically almost never visited Bandung until 2009 for business purpose.
Some advice for u nick, don't buy the cream. That's not a good cream. They always force some people for try it and buy it.
UNPAD Jatinangor Sumedang... sekalian ke Sumedang museum... peninggalan jaman kerajaan Sunda hingga kolonial Belanda.

Try to enjoy some lumpia, it is not the "basah" version, just lumpia, or maybe the call it "Lumpia kering", the last time I see a man was selling some lumpia is around McD, at dago street, accross "Pasar Simpang", anyway there is a good batagor in Pasar Simpang named "Batagor Darto", they sell the "soup" version of batagor as well, and you can find a good lumpia basah around UPI (Indonesia University of Education) at Gegerkalong Girang street, a lot of affordable street food.
Other places to visit in Bandung:
1. Gasibu
2. Gedung Sate
3. Alun-alun Bandung
4. Museum Geologi Bandung
and many more..
Don't forget to greet the people by saying "Sampurasun" and they will reply "Rampes", they will be proud of you Nick, heehee đ
what an interesting trip for you . I graduated from that University as well haha.

Fun Fact:
The Dutch East-Indies government wanted to move their colonial capital to Bandung in the mid 20th century, as Batavia (present day Jakarta) was deemed overcrowding and had flooding problems. Some of the building had been built and most things had been prepared for the move and The World War 2 broke out. Later on, The Netherlands gave the power to the Imperial Japanese and the move has never been realised.
That answers why there are so many military buildings in Cimahi (satellite city west of Bandung). They prepared it to be the first defensive line for Bandung in case of imminent attack.
PS: I studied in Universitas Padjadjaran, too!
Aaahh kampus Unpad jatinangor, I missed every good moment when I was there and it's been so long since I graduated from there but never had a chance to visit again. Thanks for sharing

I'm surprised you go to unpad. Brings back some memories when I was a student there đ
He will be loved in Indonesia
lumpia basah, i usually have it for breakfast when i was a student in Padjadjaran University. This vlog brings memories to me... flashback to 90's
wow...
you meet again with batagor nick
mantabz đđ
I remember 20 years ago, one portion of Lotek (similar with gado2) was only 1.500 rupiah !! I was in shock bc i came from Jakarta and never knew that kind of dish and price truly exist đđ. But I still bought the cheaper dishes due to my financial situation as a uni student back then. I loved all of Jatinangor's street food. Ooooh...and it was YELLOW BUS and we always screamed when we ride it because of the hills and street condition. Really miss those experience!
Enjoy Indonesia..stay safe
Ah, apparently this is the picture of classroom that you've shared in IG post that made me curious đ Padjadjaran campus that you've visited is located outside Bandung city, to be exact in Jatinangor, Sumedang regency. They do have a campus in Bandung city too, but only for the Economic and Law faculties.
Unfortunately seems like you didn't have chance to visit ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung), the oldest technical institution from Dutch era. It's very historical since President Soekarno was graduated from here and the old buildings are keep intact.
That lumpia basah already there in 2002, my gf is an agriculture faculty student, miss that place so much...
OMG! đł I didnât expect you visit Unpad Jatinangor it very close with my house.. unfortunately iâm not meeting youu, i wish i could see you next time
Love to see that Indonesian women are actively involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. No gender stereotyping. Very empowering video to watch. Thank you for uploading. Great job!

Padjadjaran university.. omg... bring back memories
that's good! You can see one of the best universities in Indonesia.
My advice, don't buy food or drinks anywhere, especially as a foreign guest (tourist). You should be able to choose and request information from the right people.
ok
nice content, good luck broođ
Its a lot fun nick
Thanks for visiting Unpad Jatinangor Nick
Mantap, kagum dengan sikapmu nick .
So interesting, cuz that neighboring campus that you point out is parts of the one I go to lol
Semangat bro. Sehat selalu
Teh Poci seems like ur favorite tea now xD
As an Indonesian vet working for laboratory mice in America, I can tell there are sooo many different lab cultures that are different between two countries. For a new person to just walk in to a laboratory with animals in it is a big no no here. lol. In America, you have to go so many applications, medical records, and approvals just to be able to go into a lab like this. Mostly, for liability issue. It is very laxed in Indonesia, and I know that. So not sure how I feel about this video.
Mantap Jiwa Nick haha
think you should go to Toraja village, a simple city with a different style nick đđ€
Tidak sangka ada teman nick di bandung
