  • My definition of "quick" might not fall in line with others. But I've got you know, things to say. I call these a "quickview" because it covers unboxing and initial testing. It does not speak to durability, longevity, etc.
    This is the "quick" review of the Pitbull Rock Beast XL in Alien compound
    All "quickviews" are long. This one is especially long. For... reasons.
    I don't trust a 5 minute tire review, and neither should you.

    You need some 3d printed squid inserts in your life. They make them for whatever tire you want. Put some on one of my trucks tonight and they're a game changer to say the least. You would love them, worth every penny!

    Great Review!! I am currently using Pit Pull Rock Beast 4.45in X 1.9 tires on both my Phoenix Rigs and my one GSpeed 6x6 SCX10 II Axles but I did not use the Pit Bull dual stage foam that came with them. In your review the XL came with single stage and found it odd as I thought all sizes of the Rock Beast came with dual stage, so I had to go look and sure enough the XL are single stage. With my Phoenix Portal I used the Proline 1.9 Dual stage foams and although I did not put this rig through the paces you did but of more of trailing at a local spot with hills/creek where there are rocks. It did a pretty good job climbing and side hilling along with going over the rocks in the creek. No Complaints. I have not gotten my Phoenix Straight out yet, but I did put in Crawler Innovations 2 stage closed cell foams made for the Rock Beast 4.45 tires, hoping this will be as good as the Portal. For the GSpeed 6x6, I used Crazy Crawler basic foams since the rig is still kinda light. I have had good luck with this setup as it really just went where I took it with minimal struggle. Overall, I think the Pit Bull tires are pretty good and agree with the right foams in them they're better. Keep up the Great Videos!!

    Great job on the review, as usual. I custom make my airdowns by trimming med/hard foams and wrapping them in aquarium filter media. I have multiple fish tanks so the product is abundant at my house

    Have you considered trimming the foam to allow space for the tires to grab while still maintaining the harder inner foam to keep the sidewall stiff during sidehilling?
    If in the stock configuration they are not going to be useful then trimming them to essentially make them a 2 stage foam but running no foam for the second stage may prove to be quite useful.
    Trimming 1/4 -1/2 inch off the diameter of the foam would be a great starting place. Starting with less trimming and taking off more with testing between trim levels could make good content to watch as well

      I took it out today. Was a major upgrade with antifoams. It came with some pretty stiff foams. I also vented the rim. Super squishy first stage. I installed the super soft in front and reg. soft in rear. I was very impressed.

      I'm coming to the conclusion that the Rock Beast is a trailing tire-- because in my experience it is simply terrible on rock. Haven't found a rock here they'll grip on.

    I wasn't a fan of mine until I put Anti-Foams in...once I did that, they came to life. One of my go-to tires now, but the factory foams leave a lot to be desired...but let's be honest, most factory foams are kind of trash. But I agree, for the price, I'd like to see better foams. Honestly, I wish all all manufacturers would offer an option to save a few bucks and buy the tires with no foams, as I'm hardly running factories in anything anyway.

    • @CrawlerCanyon

      The problem with the Rock Beast 'round here is that it just doesn't work. I've gone from OE foam to JConcepts single stage to other single stage to dual-stage hairbuns to single hairbun and the performance has always hovered around "so-so." They've never managed to get into the same territory as say a cut Canyon Trail, which is pretty much a death blow for the Rock Beast. Seems like a great trailing tire, and they look good on everything I throw 'em on, but man can they not climb rocks here.
      Someone commented that they work great on super-heavies, so they're gonna get one last chance as the rear four on Jolly Green, my 13lb 6x6.

    • @idiot_RC
      @idiot_RC Před rokem

      @@CrawlerCanyon Yeah, that's a good point...they don't work great on the lighter weight rigs. They're also a tire that I think needs a good amount of break-in. So needing a heavier rig, needing break in, needing different foams, I can certainly see why people don't want to use them. They work pretty well for me on sandstone and limestone, but pretty much anything JConcepts probably works better in most cases.

  • @Shakermt
    @Shakermt Před rokem

    You got the title wrong lol you used the title for the voodoo's :) I agree that the pitbulls do need more effort put into the foams but they do seem to perform well when you get the right combo.

  • @grey-adventures
    @grey-adventures Před rokem

    I second your comment on foams. For $60-70 a set, why are we getting crap foams? I don't want to spend $100+ on RC tires and foams. Ridiculous.

  • @gregheselton5883
    @gregheselton5883 Před rokem

    I have a set and hated them at first with some foam tuning and some time on them(like 6+ packs) they came around nicely still not the best but work well for a scale looking tire

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před rokem

      Yeah, I'm sure there's a foam out there that I can make work for whatever rig they end up on... but they just didn't blow me away. And at 40 bucks a pair (with useless foams) I continue to question their viability in the face of other, cheaper, better options.

    Man I’ve got the same foam beef with the Hyrax (damn you Proline!), the tyre is great, but the foam is pointless. So either put the price up and put a good foam in or don’t put one in at all and knock the price down. It’s a stitch up.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před rokem +1

      I'm sure better, but I don't know if better enough to justify buying the foams for them. The Rock Beasts are heading toward having a festival of DIY thrown at them-- someone in the comments mention making airdowns out of aquarium filter media, and I've been investigating laser-cutting foam-- so I'm gonna get these to work one way or the other.
