- My definition of "quick" might not fall in line with others. But I've got you know, things to say. I call these a "quickview" because it covers unboxing and initial testing. It does not speak to durability, longevity, etc.
This is the "quick" review of the Duratrax Fossil 1.9" crawler tire.

So glad to see yet another high quality Duratrax offering. I think I have almost every Duratrax version and have never once been disappointed in one. Definitely picking up a set of Fossils when I get a chance.
Look good. The price is definitely Horizonized.

I agree with everything you have said about these tires. I got a good feeling when I saw them on horizons site, and all tho my area is much more wet than your climate I had to have them, mine showed up yesterday, still waiting on a set of wheels but am excited to get out and run them in my environment. Was looking forward to seeing this vid and the review of the new Fossil tire. Impressive and glad to see that they are now Canyon Certified. I don't own a set of Duratrax tires, so these will be my first purchase. On another note, with every vid I watch, I learn new Crawler Canyon lingo. I believe I may have to start jotting these new words and phrases down.🤔
I bougth this tires to replace my old Deepwoods, match them with 3Brothers RC dual stage Antifoams, and they perfom awesome it did the lines easier, for me is the best all around tire on the market.
Thank You for your vid. I picked up a set of fossils randomly because my LHS didn't have the tires I originally wanted to instock and didnt have any Deep Wood unmounted.. I do mainly trail riding and these tires have been awesome.
The Fossil rapidly became one of my favorite tires. They've been consistently good at pretty much everything, and I seem to prefer an "all-around" tire over one that is a pure rock crawling tire. Otherwise, I think I'd have way more sets of Ruptures.
I'm the guy that visited the other day with the chop top phoenix lol. I just bought that Zoku chassis kit for my phoenix after seeing how good yours is in person. Definitely bringing the SCX6 next time I come through 😆
Nice to see the new Fossils work pretty well overall. My set should be here Friday.
I have a set of Fossils with Anti-foams without tuning rods. They are absolutely as good as higher priced brands. I use them on one of my comp rigs with excellent results!
The Fossil has quickly become one of my favorite tires.

Always look forward to your daily videos! I missed what a Double Bun entails, normally unroll, trim, one medium bun to get ideal firmness - are you placing two buns in one tire? Thanks in advance.
The double-bun is the inner closed--cell from an Amazon Pro-Line clone, with a 3" (medium) hairbun in place of the outer open-cell foam. Works great, weatherproof, and if you catch Amazon on the right day, a full set can land under $20.

Between the duratrax fossils and the jconcepts tusks what do you think would be better on a Phoenix portal? And what would you say side hills better?
Well, those are two pretty close tires, IME. It would honestly come down to terrain-- the Fossil carries over some DNA from the trusty ol' Deep Woods, so if you're doing mixed stuff, I'd reckon the Fossil might do a little better. On the rocks, it's insanely difficult to beat the Tusk. My Phoenix portal runs Tusks (with Squidn'serts no less) and you'd be hard-pressed to do better.
Should try your worst tires with the best inserts. Be an interesting test.
I would love to-- but Boom Racing Hustlers are like 4.45" tall, and I don't have a single 3D-printed insert that would fit them. Then the Amazon clones of the Hustler, the Mix Racing whatevers, are big balloony things almost the size of Ruptures.
I too am a fan of hotstorm. My last set of cheapest red hotstorm wheels were steel inner ring weighted injoras in the box
Hotstorm is the most "grab bag" of the Amazon brands I've tried. I have cosmetically identical wheelsets in different colors, one is almost double the weight of the other, as it included unmentioned brass beadlock rings, which usually cost more than the wheels by themselves.

Isn't hotstorm, Rc lions, Benedict Harry and so on...just injora rebrands? I don't think any of them do anything manufacturing wise do they? Anyways, great video! I didn't even know these existed! Last duratrax tire I used was showdowns and although they performed well, I didn't like the visual aspect of them lol. I wouldn't say I'm a total scale guy, but I like the tires to look like tires lol. Mainly the white lettering turned me off. I love my class 1 duratrax tires. Gonna have to check these out! Great video!
And Injora itself just rebrands, so far as I can tell. Absolutely no way to tell who the OE is, and deep-browsing on Amazon will find the same sets of wheels ranging from $20 to $40. I doubt that any of the Amazon-only brands make anything at all outside of shipping labels.
I get where you're going about scale tires-- they absolutely look better, and even with the white lettering facing in, the Duratrax tires were never very scaler--- I've long said that the Duratrax Scaler is the least scale, scale tire you can buy.
In your experience, which tire < 4.75” would be best for wet, dirty, wooded areas? The little rock around is sandstone, really trying to find a good tire…. Krawler TA in predators look good? But then so do these! 🤔
Deep Woods would be my first choice. Deep Woods with double-buns or 3D printed inserts can do pretty much anything, and they don't care how dirty or muddy it is.

Have you tried the Duratrax 1.9 Pivot tire? Skinnier and not as tall as the rest. I like them.
I haven't tried any of the Duratrax Class 1 options, because I only have a couple of rigs on small tires, and they're pretty much all sorted.

I think so. Still at this moment genuinely surprised at how they did out of the package. And they really do feel like a softer Canyon Trail.

I will be getting a set of 1.9 pit bull growlers alien kompound soon, purely for the look of them, comments on performance would be considered 🤔
The growler is a tire that looks fantastic, but in pretty much every performance category, from forward drive to side bite, there's another tire that does it better. Insert selection with them is pretty critical. As far as scaler tires go (based off of a 1:1 tire) they're quite good, but in brutal honesty, the performance doesn't match the pricepoint. IMO.
Now temper the above with the fact that I haven't had the best luck with ANY Pitbull offering here-- they've ranged from above-average to outright poor, so I think I'm just in the wrong climate for them.
@@CrawlerCanyon your opinion is much appreciated, I live in London England and I doubt there is anything at my local park that even comes close to your amazing canyon, mainly grassy and wooded areas, so I honestly don't think there's anything to truly test the Growlers.....its mainly the scale look im going for on a trx4 sport with a rusted 1979 bronco hard body, I think they eill complement the look of the truck, I'm a suckered for looks over performance but I do appreciate your input and experience on the subject, thank you for taking the time to reply.
I think you'll probably do just fine-- I've come to an unscientific theory that it might just come down to humidity-- all the places that Pitbull tires are super popular are places like the Pacific Northwest, the Southern US-- so places synonymous with humidity. In the summer, we can hit single-digits.
I have a set of Growlers. They work great as a trail tyres, not so much as crawler tyres. I prefer Pitbull Madbeast for crawler tyres.
I recently got some Class 1 Duratrax Pivot tires. They have the molded lettering and are also non directional.
I guess this is the "new" Duratrax, and I wonder how long before the OG models get "retired," no pun intended.

Overall height?
Same as all of the previous Duratrax offerings, right around 4.7", depending on the insert. They are narrower compared to say a Deep Woods or an Approach-- I'd guess 5mm narrower. I went through all the work to built a tire measuring jig, and then forget to use it 80% of the time.
They remind me a bit of BFG Krawlers. I think I need to add a set to the fleet. Would love to see them on a set on printed foams. 😈.
