  • 👩‍🍳 Welcome to Beenu's Surati Kitchen!
Today, we're making a classic favorite: Whole Wheat Roti! This simple recipe yields soft and delicious Indian flatbreads that pair perfectly with curries or as a wrap for your favorite fillings. Let's get started!
    Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
Water, as needed (about 3/4 to 1 cup)
    Salt, to taste (optional)
Castor oil for the dough (it helps if wheat doesn't suit your body)
Ghee or oil, for cooking (optional)
    Instructions:
    Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of whole wheat flour with salt (if using) and castor oil or any preferable oil.
Gradually add water while kneading to form a smooth, soft dough. Start with 3/4 cup of water and adjust as needed.
    Knead the Dough:
Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. This step ensures softer rotis.
    Rest the Dough:
Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap or a lid and let it rest for at least 15-20 minutes. This helps improve the texture.
    Divide and Roll Out:
After resting, divide the dough into golf ball-sized portions.
Roll each portion into a smooth ball, then flatten slightly.
Dust with dry flour and roll out into thin, round shapes (6-7 inches in diameter).
    Cook the Roti:
Heat a tawa (griddle) or flat pan over medium-high heat.
Place a rolled-out roti on the hot tawa. Cook for about 30 seconds until bubbles appear.
    Flip and Cook:
Flip the roti using tongs or a spatula. Cook the other side for another 30 seconds.
Flip again and cook directly on the flame until it puffs up. Press gently with a cloth if needed.
    Finish Cooking:
Cook both sides until golden-brown spots appear. Optionally, brush with ghee or oil for added flavor.
    Serve Hot:
Serve the rotis hot with your favourite curry, dal, or as desired.
    Tips:
Adjust heat as needed to ensure even cooking.
Keep cooked rotis covered with a cloth to maintain softness.
Give this Whole Wheat Roti recipe a try and enjoy the authentic taste right at home!
