I think there is room for improvement in some some places, but unless new skips are found it's no more than a few seconds. - Hry
Holy crap that laser lifts shell jump was nasty

@@Draciel360 is this possible rta?
@@BiBaBeluBaB possible rta? Yes. Viable rta? No. It would take too many tries to be worth the time save, which is only a few seconds
There's some guy who did that without tas
Shout-out to dode for the shell skip
There should be a Barb% where the only requirements are to beat Corndilly in Poo’s Laughter House (Poo Slaughter House), get softlocked by the dolphin in Deuce Lair, and get bad ending.
@Jacob Turnbaugh just show me on this doll where the bad man touched you.
@@sethkauffman9915 lmfao
@@wacknesium lol, my comment looks stupid now, but there was a moron here who was butthurt as all fuck.
I know for a sub incentive a few months back, Panga ran Corndilly% as a speedrun. All in good fun, ofc as it's not a recognized category on SMW central, but funny nonetheless
And also get to Barb's room
2:46 this was always my personal favourite section of the game, it’s so visually stunning.
Jaw-dropping. Incidentally, this also shows off just how desperately SMM2 needs theming options. The variety of the level palettes in this is so sick.
even if this is mostly made out of vanilla graphics barb does an impressive job drawing custom backgrounds
Just goes to show you how well designed/de-cheesed this game is, there aren't really a whole lot of crazy sequence breaks you would normally see in a TAS in this. There are a couple here and there(and they're definitely cool, the rock chuck/turnblock section skip in Caradhras comes to mind, the ultra-delayed shell jump in Laser Lifts, the key tech in the Thousand Halls etc.), but comparatively few because of Barb's meticulous design and testing/quality control. Still a fun watch, and a great job done by Ferpy.
the game just came out give it some time. No mario game is game-break proof.
I enjoy watching skips get developed, this is pretty much the only thing I don't like about barbs hacks. What's the point in making Mario lose his powerups between levels? If somebody finds a way to carry it over, awesome - you're forcing them to play the game a certain way instead of how they want to.
@@voidofmind Well, that's Kaizo for ya, there's only one way to play 99% of all kaizo:light levels, and if you don't do exactly the right sequences of button presses and for the correct durations that the creator asks for, you are dead. In this game, Barb kind of masks that fact a little bit by adding in different routes that the player can choose from to progress through the game, and even though you ultimately end up going back and playing all the levels and looking for all the secret exits anyway(if you're not a chump, and if you are, this hack probably isn't for you in the first place), it's still a neat, cool thing he put in there. Poo loves paths and puzzles, and Barb knows this, hence the paths.
Powerups cannot possibly carry over from level to level in a standard kaizo hack because they will almost always break the rest of the game(look what it did to vanilla SMW, you can just fly over half the fuckin' game), or force the creator to add something into the game that physically removes that powerup from you and maybe that obstacle might not fit the flow of the level, and there's a possibility that that removal could bone the player who didn't carry one over if it's not specifically intended that you carry one over, not to mention the fact that then the player can carry over that powerup to a level previously cleared to obtain a secret exit that you're intended to be small to be able to find or something like that. It gives the player the ability to damage boost(or fly completely over, or rope glitch, etc.) through a section that shits right in the creator's face for being careless enough to overlook that design flaw. It's bad design to give the player a weapon with which to break your game that you spent, in some cases, 1400 hours on.
Furthermore, in kaizo, things not typically considered powerups like shells can be used achieve greater jump height and distance than would be possible without them, and if you're not aware of this, some dude could just shell jump right over your cleverly crafted obstacle, shitting directly into your(the creator's) mouth in the process. Imagine a hot, steamy, cheesy log right in your mouth. That's what even _one_ poorly placed asset can do to your hard work and time. Even springs(and galoombas) have to be specifically designed around, as you can use them to midair spring-jump higher than you normally could if they were stationary, and some kaizo players can pull off 5 of those in row. To be fair, most of these are regular/semi-regular mechanics in kaizo, but it just goes to show you how careful you have to be in design to prevent the player from squatting down and farting directly into your dinner that you spent all day slaving over in a hot kitchen.
@@Astromyxin I agree. The tight timing practically makes most levels an autoscroller in disguise. The only thing I can imagine is someone finding a way to overflow the memory and execute code from there, but I can't think of a spot in the game where that would be possible.
You say that this indicates "good design" but some runners might actually disagree. Carefully restricting the player will certainly result in very few variations of playstyle (and speedruns/TASes), but the problem is that there isn't much room for growth. Part of the fun in speedrunning non-kaizo hacks is that there are always better routes being discovered, and when you create a Kaizo hack that heavily restricts player movement to the intended route only, it removes that aspect of a speedrun.
39:52 really nice key abuse
43:13 okay probably the best
That second one is a beauty
Still astounded by the quality of this hack (For a kaizo hack that is) absolutely amazing
Kaizo or not this is still better than like 90% of AAA titles
Awesome trick in laser lifts 👍
Actually Dode was the one that found that skip, I just "borrowed" it ;)
@Vincent Kikosicki Because Dode
I really love the jingle that plays when you complete a level.
I love how the level “yacht club castle” features music created by yacht club games and has underwater controls exactly like shovel knight.

ok but can we talk about how perfectly that lined up with the music
Yeah, sure, we can talk about it, hit me up on WhatsApp.

Only one person has pulled that off in real life.
And I watched this again in 2022 most of these plays are way greater than the ones being played at GDQ
Love the streets of rage music
Holy shit. When i saw this in my recommendation feed, i thought it was another stupid and lazy troll hack. But this is truly one of the best ROM hacks I've seen of SMW, even going so far as to create entirely new stage gimmicks and bosses, along with creatively using a lot of music I've never heard before along with familiar ones. While I sure as hell won't be playing it as I'm a pretty bad SMW player, I do love how creative and original this was.
Not a snowball's chance in hell of me ever playing this but I sure do enjoy the TAS.
It feels like Barb did this for TAS. So many hidden pipes and very hard maps + to that that last boss at the end
26:46 Creator POO: Good job avoiding poisonous mushrooms. In recognition of your hard work, I am awarding you a 1UP Mushroom.

Ok
Best one that I ever see in a hack!
I see how the dude who created this hack is a man of culture.
there should be a portrait% where the only goal is to look at every portrait in the game
The Oil Ocean Zone music from Sonic threw me for a moment. I KNEW I knew that music, just took me a moment to remember where from haha.
Halfway through watching this I just remembered how many cruel kaizo blocks there are in here.
The pipe level heavily reminds me of the Pipeline Tower and Dripdrip Drains level from Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Oh my lord your shell jump was just satisfying
Bloody hell, that laser lifts trick was just rude! Nice TAS!

In the Boo Boss fight, barb forgot to remove a grab block in the left wall. You can still grab it and possibly get a hit earlier.
2 bad Halloween is over this is so perfect for it
What a name
Also I loved that rendition of Soy Sauce for Geese at the end
Gotta love how the ending fanfare theme for the regular levels is really the one from Streets of Rage.
And the ending fanfare for some of the other levels is from Ocarina of Time when you defeat the boss. I like that too.
I don't care if it's kaizo, official, licensed, hacked, 2d or 3d , that right there is the best Boswer battle ever designed .

i could not. i cannot. after spending 27 minutes failing on the very first koopa troopa jump, i closed Snes9x unsure of what my status of being a gamer actually is. as i type this now "deal with it" is the only thing on my mind. i just don't get it. i mean, i knew most of the original video game tracks they remixed for the levels. i dominate super mario world. and then....

2.44 to 252 blew my mined the calculation to land that is insane 😳
Good thing he found a magic balloon!
I love how the time counter on the final levels is in hexidecimal
Timers on older games are weird. They seem like decimal at first but if you push outside 999, rather than being hexadecimal they actually start going further into the sprite sheet and normally the alphabet comes right after the numbers
Unless it's a case where SMW's counter is secretly hexadecimal
Or barb treated it as hexadecimal. I don't know
I wonder what Dode's reaction to keyjumps was. Somehow I doubt that he was super hyped about them.
44:06 That section was HOT
what an amazing run. I know that technic with stones but that this is possible with key too was new. i recommend myself that i want to stop to write a comment but in that time i was sure i will miss any of your sills and its funny to see that a game which is always faster than the player the player force to wait and to see as bowser try to be a challenge and i have seen it often how player struggle at that point and you run faster than try to read this commend and try to understand what happened but in Short
What the hell was that good
Wow, the music in this is just great! I wish we could turn back time and let some of these guys work on games back in the 90s! Would give us a whole new great 16 bit era! Can someone please make this movie?....
The music used in this rom hack is great. You can tell that the person who remixed these tracks knows his game music inside and out. Journey To Silius in particular made me smile. Only thing I might have tweaked was replacing the Gauntlet Theme for the Hall of Champions with the Hall of Champions music from Dungeon Master SNES. XD
These streets of rage songs ...
If the Kaizo aspect was taken away, the level design and music would still be amazing. I actually loved the music a lot. Some tracks I recognized, while others I did not. Is there a link to the SPCs used?

This is gnarly
I thought SMW romhacks had to have all their music ported into the SMW soundfont...I was really digging the E1M1 at 11:00. So how did they get the Turtles In Time boss fight track to appear in its original arrangement?
Edit: Oh, I see. Clash On The Big Bridge plays during House Of The Undying, so it must be able to handle anything that was on the SNES.
Right, you can import samples from other SNES games. In fact, dozens of tracks were ported by com_poser and DanTheVP from other systems and games.
The Thalassophobia levels (from the 6:17 and 11:51 marks of the video for stretches of at most 2 minutes) have the same music as the underwater part of the second level of the 1989 TMNT NES video game.
A TAS run without wall-jumping abuse? That's what i'm talking about!
Wall jumps were disabled
@Pyroman / That's really cool, wall jumping is not that great to watch like a mid-air.
Why can't Twitch Poo (or even CZcams Poo) make frame perfect key jumps? damn...
