Nick- it’s not that hit records aren’t out there but we are having less and less collective experiences with songs because of how fast everything moves and how much more of a personal listening experience we are able to have these days in the streaming era. Still sad, but I think good songs are still being made, they just aren’t given the time to marinate. 🥂 But seriously great episode fr, made me realize that DJing at a fancy casino club can feel just as shitty as playing a college night or any “for everyone” room. That’s also definitely been my go-to Soulja Boy edit for a minute. 🎉

Offseason Atlantic City can be ROUGH as far as nightlife. Would love to see you comeback to some of these same rooms in the summer time when they’re packed to the gills. Hats off to all 3 ladies, especially the first 2. DJ’ing for an empty-ish room is tough enough, but having the pressure to build a dance floor for a headliner in an empty-ish super-clubby room like this is extra tough. They definitely did their part.

LezLee DJs how I do a lot of my weddings. I have a good sized crate of remixes in that 128 bpm I use to drive a hard "Club" vibe in weddings. I have since blended more open format in now. Also that comment to rotate the BPM's like Nick said, so true!
The birthday shoutout is a great move IMO. Yes, you get a Pavlovian response, but it works. It takes a couple seconds and it can be an icebreaker when done early in the night. It's a great way to make people feel like they're welcome and appreciated. Another banger of an episode! Sorry bro... 🍅 🍅 🍅 are far more important to me.

In the midwest weddings didn't start getting clubby until like 2008-09. They were a totally different game. I remember dropping electro house and people had no idea what it was but loved it. So it is funny that clubs are now getting to be more like wedding sets from the 2010s.

Loving and learning so much from these vlogs. Just have to keep from holding the mic to close to your mouth it is getting some loud plosives (pops)coming through the videos. I understand your in loud environments, but I think those DJI mics still do well even if they are clipped to your collar. I can't stand the people that hold a Lav mic up to their mouth when recording a video and its kinds the same with a DJI mic.

Nick needs to get out of his head where he's like "oh, I'm being a wedding dj"...there's so little line between wedding and club djs these days. Why? Because the goal is to make people happy. People, on the whole, like the same things. Sure, there are pockets of nuance where someone likes this or that a ton and no one else in the country does, but for the most part? Wedding hits will make a club go off. Gonna have to get used to being pulled up to the booth - it's bound to happen every time now.

Now a very successful DJ (The Cut creator Dj OutKast) told me a while back that theirs way too much music out there for you to Not having anything to play next or burn out another Dj. I didn't understand him at the moment but check this out! Knowing what you have in your library and walking with what you need goes hand in hand. In the Caribbean where I'm from we don't ever tell another Dj don't play this or that cause it makes you look like you're not familiar with your music and music in general. There are millions of songs out there bro think about it. how can me and you play the same songs?? I did the no bangers for openers thing once and I did a great job I kept my set away from heading lining banger and still pull people to the dance floor. what happens now is the party is from the crowd perspective a bit boring and lame. nick is right we need to keep the crowd the other DJ will figure it out, I did another gig where I didn't care about bankers at this time and head liners and so forth, I just played for the people to have a great time and the party swings better its more hype more engaging and more fun. And when the next Dj came on just, he/she takes it to another level. I'm not saying go in on your set when you're opening or semi opening and play, we dem boys by Wiz Khalifa or burn out 30 head liner bangers at hours 7 -8 or 9 to keep the crowd NO. I'm saying if its earlier play your set like its early if its prime time play your set like its prime time. Time and place are key factors to how I select music. Once you've understand how night life works your music selection will adapt. 🍅
