- If you are in the process of removing rust on a floor pan or anything similar, than this process is a great guide to follow. Its really not all that hard to do, it just takes time and patience. But, this is how I did a DIY Rust Removal on the Chevrolet Astro Floor pan on out stealth camper van build!

Look online for a product called lizard skin sound control. It comes in a paint can. Then look up a second product called lizard-skin ceramic insulation. It also comes in a paint can.
I checked it out this morning, haven’t don’t extensive research on it yet. But, do you know if this can be applied over the rubber coating I already applied? And, it seems like everyone only sprays the coating on. Can this be rolled on?

@@AutoMotivate today is Christmas oh, so Merry Christmas my friend. With that being said I know that lizard skin has a website. On the website you can find the lizard skin customer service number. The company lizard skin itself is a very well-informed company they're very familiar with their products. After the holidays you can call and speak to someone at the company and they will even ship you samples of the product. And answer all of your questions. I am going to attempt to do this to my year 2000 GMC Safari van. I'm going to Dismount the gas tank and all the EVAP lines, then I'm going to use a degreaser for the bottom to take all the grease off the bottom. Then I'm going to hit it with a primer like you recommended the Rustoleum. Then I'm going to coat it with the lizard skin first the sound control then the ceramic. Then I'm going to put a top coat of something called kills it's a mold resistant top coat. After that I'm going to use closed cell foam insulation on the interior you could purchase this at any Home Depot. It's going to be a lengthy process but well worth it because I'm going to keep this van for as long as it will drive. I'm just like you I'm going to be living in the van because of the circumstances that I'm going through currently
Long story short I'm going to go all the way lizard skin all the way around to allow the hundred and ten degrees Summers of Southern California which is where I live

Hope you're still monitoring these comments. First off, thanks for this. Loving it so far, and looking forward to more. Would love to know more about removing that rear ac unit. I have a 2000 gmc safari (essentially identical), and was looking at removing that, but looked underneath and it looks like the whole ac system (front and back) is connected. Did you cut and cap off the freon lines yourself? Anyone else done this have any words of wisdom or advice?
Hey there!
So, I ripped it out without knowing it had Freon it in. ( I was oblivious)
I order ac block off bolts that was for the Astro Van, but they didn’t fit right.
So, I’m planning on creating my own block off bolts from the existing AC lines and doing some sort of aluminum welding to close off the existing nuts.
Whenever I do that, I’ll have a video of it. However, I’m not sure when that will be done because I am moving here pretty soon.

Also do you have the measurements from the top of one wheel well to the other? I wanna build my bed that way but I’m 6’1 and don’t want it to be too short! Lol thanks I’m advance!✨
Thank you! When I get back home, I’ll try to remember to measure it out for you! My goal is to keep as much headroom as I can. And, you may benefit from building the bed from the back of the van to the front seat, you’ll get more room that way.

@@AutoMotivate we've a 1999 safari.. built permanent storage with a 5/8" ply top from the 2nd seat back separated by a cross center spine for support.. access from the rear doors and the front half is accessable from the top.. for sleeping we fold the bench flat and roll out the foam, no gaps, it's very comfortable. Leaving the seat in gives you more seating while travelling.
Saw a 2020 astro camperized by a guy in colorado for a client.. Nice layout, did a great job.. even had a cabinet/drawers, counter and sink.

With the rubberized paint, did you add any insulation next, before your flooring? (Maybe that’s part 4!)

The first layer was rust inhibitor paint by rustoleum. The recording of me installing it went missing, sadly.
I installed .5 inch poly board, reflective in the grooves and a thin piece of plywood on top! I do have a video of that if you are interest! Should be in the Astro Van playlist 😁
Hi. At around 9:00 into the video, you show how you covered the hole where the rear a/c was. Do you have a video on removing the rear a/c? I got it fully detached inside and was trying to yank it up until I realized there are two pipe lines going through the floor to the undercarriage. So I'm looking for that part, how to separate the inside blower from the pipes. I appreciate your help!
There are essentially two bolts (if I remember correctly) that holds that price together. You’ll need to properly drain the refrigerant before fully removing it and grab yourself a front only piping from another Astro Van.

@@daisyv5038 lol, no. I’ll elaborate on what I mean, though.
Your AC system is piped for rear AC. So, you’ll have to go to the junk yard, or possibly find it online, and pull the AC lines from a van that only has front AC.
This is a very excellent investment lizard skin will completely insulate your van and save you on gas compared to other products
