  • Take your Harley to the next level with the Ultima #53-644/Dyna 2000i ignition setup. This upgrade will enhance the performance of your bike and give you a smoother ride.
www.ultimaproducts.com/53-644_... that is the instruction sheet for this ignition system. This is an almost identical system as the Dyna 2000i digital system.
As part of the service on this wrecked salvage title 2001 Harley Sportster XL1200C, we wanted to verify the timing and what ignition system it had on it. I thought it might have a Dyna S ignition due to the kind of conduit it had for the wiring coming out of the cam cover and going to the coil. So I was gonna service the mechanical advance mechanism.
Instead, it had this Ultima digital ignition system #53-644.
They had it set on curve 4 with the voes non-functioning dip switch flipped. So, it was running full retarded state. Since we don't know what compression, cams, etc. I left it at that curve for now. I did reduce the rev limit from 7k down to 6k.
Once I go out and ride it some, i will stop and flip some dipswitches to change timing curves. Then ride it some more under various load levels. Feeling for quicker rev at given RPMs. Listening for any pinging. In other words, using the ass dyno.
Be careful with the dip switches they are plastic and I have seen people tear the damn switches off.
The static timing is easy enough to set. If you want to dynamic time it then I recommend painting the TDC mark with either white or yellow paint to be able to see it better.
Dynamic timing will require a clear plastic timing plug(tool) available from most major parts houses. You will screw this in until it wipes the oil off the side of the crank. Then strobe it with your light. This tool belongs in your toolbox as it fits all models up until Twin cams. and XL models until 2003.
The tool isn't a must but it keeps you from misting up the entire shop and breathing,e ating and tasting oil for the rest of the day.

They are NOT a clone of a 2000i as the Ultima uses completey different advance curves ,yes they look the same but that's it.🤔👍

This would have been a lot better if we didn’t have to hear you spitting the whole time but thanks for the info!

I just installed one last night. You just cut it off. Connect to nothing. If you have a race application you can ground it causing the advance to come on faster This is all in the instructions online is how I found it

ou can get a screw in hose barb that has a 1/16_27 thread drill hole in your manifold tap it with a 1/16-27 pipe tap and screw the barb in the manifold. Use whtie pipe dope on the threads. I used to pick up the barbs at NAPA, but these days you can't really tell who has them. HD used to sell them.
THere is usually a dimple on the manifold where it would go. Even if there is no dimple you can pick a good place to put it on ht manifold.
I included a link so you can see what it looks like, kinda pricy to me, but at least you can get the idwww.ebay.com/itm/313880282214?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&srsltid=AfmBOooMkIsjCwkC12v20jx0EiYgA6GCoYWWPvMHs8VdjRoWGZ1u7Xw8N8Eea of what to look for.

@@olehansen6655 sorry I didn’t read it correctly. Do what I said if don’t use the voes

We used to do that with stock type modules as well. On certain applications we would use sportster moudules on big twins and then ground the voes. Or even adjust the voes vacuum setting by removing the epoxy out of the back then using a multimeter and a handheld vacuum pump you can turn the screw that is nside the voes to change the switch setting.
Cnat' remembe the exact settings, I want to say a bigtwin voes is set at 8lbs and the sportster is set at 6 lbs. But that could be backwards.

Thanks for the reminder. I will try in the future to curtail that for eveyone. Old habits are hard to break, beign anti-social for the most part doesn't help much either.
