SOLDIER OF THE POOR
In the small town of Balaka,
Like feast of Eid Mubarak,
He rose from the ashes of the burning sun
With healing melodies like Jessie's son.
Indeed, he was the soldier of the poor.
In the rhythms of Imbirani Yahweh,
A soldier sharpened his wits,
To grapple with the old hungry lion
Amidst chaos of fear and oppression.
Indeed, he was the soldier of the poor.
With the spirit of I and I;
Roots, Rasta, Reggae
He chanted Down Babylon
And pleaded Africa to Cease Fire,
As the true soldier of the poor
His fierce spirit none could chain,
A warrior poet he shall remain,
He stood for those who had no voice,
And made our broken hearts rejoice.
Indeed, he was the soldier of the poor.
Though he's gone, his echoes stay,
In fields of green and skies of gray.
His legacy lives on, pure and true,
In our hearts he shall always remain
