  • ‘This is one of the most important private collections of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish Old Master paintings to come to the market in living memory,’ says the head of Christie’s Old Masters department, Henry Pettifer.
    The Eric Albada Jelgersma Collection is, says the specialist, ‘astonishing for its overarching quality and its scope across all the different genres - portraiture, landscape, genre, and still-life painting.’

    If the caterpillar is really on the flower and not on
    the table, then why there isn’t its reflection - projection on the shadow line
    of the floral stem, which is quite visible on the table?

      I think because the shadow is from under the flower, because you can see the shadow is straight but the flower stick is curve. So you cant see the caterpillar from under the flower therefore no shadow for it

      Don't know. Possibly, because it does pertain to the great classic / classical works of the fine art?..
