When you combine the Soto WindMaster 3 Flex with the new Fire Maple Petrel HX pot, you get an outstanding solo HX system. It will boil 2 cups of water in an 8-mph wind using about 9 grams of fuel.

The Fire Maple Greentree Stove ($20 Amazon) works well with the Petrel pot.

Bought this pot after watching these videos, and for anyone wondering the Soto easily fits the pot (mine, at least) without modification. I have no trouble getting it on and off and don't feel the need to grind away the little bit he mentions.

I’ve ordered the pot and looking forward to using this combo on trail!

I am using the same with my windmaster, but I replaced the handle with a lighter metal handle, Ti I think, cannibalised from another pot. Much lighter than. a jet boil, more flexible and cheaper. Nice.

Great video. Do you have a recommendation for taking the little tab off of the 3-Flex? Do I need a special tool or would it bend off with needle nose pliers?

First, I have a wirkshop: I took a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the tab back a bit. Then used a hammer & anvil to flatten the piece. Tin snips to cut off the excess material and a grinder to clean up the edges. You could easily use a just file to cut it down, the material as it is pretty thin. SHouldn't take more than 5 minutes. Best wishes.

Thank you. I’ll give that a try. Can’t wait to backpack with my buddy who uses the Jetboil Stash and compare that to the Soto Windmaster/ Petre pot.
      I love your channel.

Does the Pocket Rocket Deluxe not match up correctly with the slots in the pot bottom?

The pot support are not radial but offset and do not fit well/ easily. My 2 cents.

How close is the burner to the bottom of the pot?

the same height as it would be when using a regular pot: about 0.180".

How long does it take to boil those 2 cups of water?

    • @FlatCatGear
      @FlatCatGear  Před 24 dny +1

Don't know and don't really care. It is all about fuel efficiency. Boiling faster just consumes 50% or more fuel. My 2 cents.

@@FlatCatGear Fair, recently went on a backpacking trip with 11 people (we were all first-timers). We had two stoves. Definitely will bring more next time, but the wait time for food was outrageous. We're planning on doing another go sometime.
Anyways do you know if this fire maple pot works well with a PocketRocket Deluxe? I don't really know which of the two stoves: Soto or the PRD to get
I'm reading a blog that uses a heat exchanger pot (Olicamp XTS Pot) with the PRD which is a very similar combination to your Soto + Firemaple

Has anyone nested a pot inside or outside of the Petrel pot? Im wondering if my Toaks 550 will fit inside the Petrel, then nest a canister inside the smaller Toaks pot I might just wind up using one of the MSR plastic bowls if I can find one.

I dont know as I do not own a TOAKS 550 mug. You'll have to look at the dimensions. BTW, Why would you need to take an extra mug? Just curious.
