The "pirate looking dude" is Sebastain Shaw from Hellfire club (the one they adapted very differently in X-men first class movie)
Yes!!! I remembered. He looks exactly like he does in the books. Nothing like Kevin Bacon. Lol.
yup
Great reaction. no matter how hard you try to fan away the tears with your hands, you can't stop the tears😂I'm a 45 year old guy and I had to use tissues. this show is awesome
Beau DeMayo was not only the writer of this and other episodes, but the showrunner responsible overall for seasons 1 & 2 of X-Men ’97. This show has shockingly been a near masterpiece.
This not any animated TV show, this was prime TV quality
One of the best episodes of tv….ever💯
The guy with the ponytail is Sebastian Shaw.
Great reaction. You held it together a lot better than I did lol. Gambit has been my favorite since the 90's and I'm glad he was finally given the respect he deserves and shown as the selfless hero we know him to be.
I appreciate and respect your reaction. I have watched the ep probably 5 times, not to mention reaction amd breakdown videos. Still gets me every single time. The writing of this show, and the performances during some of the heavier moments, have blown my mind and solidified, for me, this as the greasltest piece of xmen media outside of the source material.
Thank you.
I think in retrospect it was smart for them to have episode 4 out before this so that you get a nice "chill" episode before the super heavy stuff of this episode dropped.
This is pulling from so many stories in the comics and I love it. Great reaction!
Glad you enjoyed!
Love the reaction! Love that you’re learning about the x-men as you go. I grew up on these guys in the 90’s era. There may never be a comic like that again, but at least we got this show!
evil mother was mystique.. there's a story arc in the original show that talks all about it
Which I’m watching now.
in the brian singer films rogue never took capt marvels powers
Yeah they jumped right into xmen with her in to films.
Damn you, X-men 97 making me feel :(
Between this series and Shogun, I’ve been doing a lot of crying lately.
This episode is still messing with my emotions over a week later. I've been loving your reactions. Yes Rogue from the movies isn't typical Rogue as we know her but I believe at least with her powers its because she didn't have a past with Captain Marvel with which she got her strength and flight from.
Oh really. Did not know that. That’s cool.
Rogue in the films is really sorta Kitty Pryde/youngster's viewpoint-type character. Rogue in name only, the film's character reminds me of when Kitty Pryde joined the X-Men (from the Dark Phoenix Saga... sort of new to her powers and wide-eyed at all the superheroes around her). Anna Paquin did a great job for what she was given, but she conveyed a completely different character from the animated show and the comic books. The films focused so much on Professor X / Magneto / Wolverine that it left little space for any of the other major X-Men (love all three characters). But the batting average for the Fox films dropped over it's lifespan and never got close to it's full potential.
This episode wrecked me and I am still thinking about it. One of the best Marvel Disney+ episodes ever made.
I absolutely knew the story and what was coming... it didnt stop the tears. This episode broke me.
3:33 plot hole Roberto Sunspot filmed by TV crew. Busted
Mystic is the mother of rogue and nightcrawler she told to both in 90s series
Mystique. I saw a fan theory that’s she’s the UN lady which is why she was so curious how Rogue answered Magneto
🥹 you had the right reaction, stoked you’re enjoying X-Men since they’re easily my favorite Marvel cast. (minus the fox movies)
I just felt in love with this man. ❤
The head writer wrote season 2, only season 3 in production right now is going on without him. We'll see how it goes
also, rogue cannot fly or have superstrength that is stolen when rogue was bad with her bad mother... she stole those powers from Captain Marvel, who is in a coma. Currently, there's a whole story arc in the original series that it was about.. so shed doesn't normally have those powers.. that's why in the movie she's different , different universe
Please avoid spoilers. I’ve mentioned multiple times I’m watching the original show and reading the books.
The reason Magneto is called Magnus and not Erik is because when the original show aired Magneto didn't have that name yet, so the x-men besides rogue called Magneto magnus because thats what proffeser x called him originaly in the show
Don’t apologise for the subtitles. They really help with Magneto and Leech.
Genosha got IDFed
6:02 Anna Paquin was not miscast she was miswritten. Suki Stackhouse would’ve been a perfect Rogue at the time. Foxmen was basically Wolverine and those other guys.
She was miscast, she wasn't attractive enough and she couldn't do the accent properly it was only after true blood when she doubled down on the accent was it good, but she wasn't my rogue
@@levitabusman Not being attractive enough is a personal opinion. Her perfecting the accent on True Blood proves she could’ve done it if they told her to. She was young in the first movie so she gets a pass in my book but by second movies she should’ve been the southern belle we all know.
@@levitabusman Dear Lord. "Wasn't attractive enough". Lmao.
@levitabusman I think you just mean she was too young for the part.
I would recommend to you the x-tinction agenda event from the comics. It has a huge cast and features an earlier version of genosha that was hinted at by Gambit in this episode. It was my favorite as a kid and 30 years later i still occasionally go back for a read.
Anna Paquin was more rouge in true blood than she was in singers xmen
I feel like the motendo filler was what Disney originally thought they'd get regarding an X-men 97 series, and it was the show's way of saying "yeah we can do that if you want, but look how bad it is compared to what we can do".
Also Demayo already wrote season 2 when he was fired. So season 3 will be the first without his writing. And lastly, the OnlyFans was non-pornographic. No more than shirtless pics on his instagram, from my understanding. We don't know why he was fired, but it may have just been stupidity by Disney (like with James Gunn), so I wouldn't jump to condemn DeMayo.
Loved this reaction man! :)
Appreciate it!!
Well, the 97 live action series was hampered by having Rogue being hard to explain without involving properties that Fox had no legal rights to. It was tricky, so they wrote a younger version of Rogue more similar to her first comic appearances and her Ultimate xmen and Xmen Evolution version.
And yeah, magneto is like 40 years older than Rogue and they met when she was a teenager and she was looking for a father figure. I think it's super creepy
Maybe you don't know, but Rogue got her strength and flight from during her time with the Brotherhood she was used as a weapon to settle a score between Mystique and Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) and indefinitely stole much of her strength and put her into a coma for some time.
Rogue cannot fly & doesn't have super strength & resistance to attacks. She stole those powers. Power wise, she is as per the movie. The comics though, virtually never showed her that way, no, as she starts off as a villain, having drained Carol Danvers/Ms Marvel permanently, and going after the Avengers (Avengers Annual 10) with her step-mothers, Destiny & Mystique (attempting to spring the other brotherhood of evil mutant members from jail).
13:00 Sebastian Shaw
Good reaction❤
Rogue tought to captain Marvel and get strong and capable of fly
I think Anna Paquin's version of Rogue was more inspired in the X-men Evolution animation Rogue. They showed Rogue as a very edgy melancholic teenage girl with kind of a gothic outfit.
They never said why Beau DeMayo was removed from the project. Given they never said he was fired and we know nothing about any legal problems for all we know he could have been moved to a secret project they didn’t want to announce yet. Anything anyone says right now is pure conjecture and I’d suggest waiting for something more official

In the X-men movie swap around actors. Imagine Hugh jackman as cyclops. Now have Halle berry as Wolverine. Now the height is closer to right. Now Wolverine can fight bigger people. Wolverine can call cyclops stretch legs and pretty boy. Watch Halle berry in bruised. She could have nailed Wolverine.
In the Brian singer movie any random person could have nailed all three of storms lines. Halle berry is an excellent on screen presence. She’s 7/8 white. She’s miscast as storm. Closer to Wolverine. Storm should be taller than Wolverine. At that time and recognizing the movie didn’t require an actor, Venus Williams makes the picture work. Serena is too short.
Just re imagine every time you see Hugh on screen imagine Halle berry doing that. The Wolverine Jean Scott throuple is way more interesting.
Hugh jackman gives Scott summers presence and bearing. Hugh can have his movie arc as cyclops.
Halle berry is not the top choice to be Wolverine. The woods is full of short men. Just using the cast at the time.
Rogue's is the adopted daughter of Mystique, who isn't any type of hero in the comics
So glad I saw that explained in the original series before you spoiled it…
@@DeanBarryStuff You do realize that you asked the question in your reaction, don't you?
YOu are so sweet
X Men 97 is a tv show for adults masquerading as a cartoon for kids. This episode is straight fire. This is what Marvel used to be... that Madame Web movie was a disaster. I hope they rehire the witer of this episode.
Considering they rehired James Gunn, I see no reason for them not rehire Beau DeMayo.
@@gunguntrio1247 my sentiments exactly... this guy wrote some of the best dialogue I've ever heard.
Madame Web wasn't made by Marvel/Disney, it was a Sony picture like Venom and Morbius as they keep trying to make a Spider-Man cinematic universe without Spider-Man
