- Has just passed away …. Great singer, ‘chansonist’, born in Bratislava, artistically based in Czech Prague: Hana Hegerová (1931-2021) !... This little work is devoted to her great art and - from today - to her memory.
For the first time I heard about Hegerová and saw her in 1962; she was invited to participate in the 2nd International Song Festival Sopot 1962. She sang then daringly her main song in that time - “Zla nedele” (That Bad Sunday) and, as it was stipulated in the regulation of the festival, she, as a foreign singer, was supposed to sing one Polish song in her native language. She selected “Szeptem” (In a Whisper), a song which was introduced by Ludmiła Jakubczak, a Polish singer a year earlier, who soon after that was killed in the car accident.
Hegerová was fabulous and wondrous - sensational, as her cabaret and literary style was far from the typical great pop performances. I was under great impression and soon after happened to meet an artist from the former Czechoslovakia who was kind to provide me - which lasted years... - with everything what was appearing in his country and had some connection with Hana. Records, photos and he arranged even a photo with an autograph made by the singer especially for me. Together with a photo of his, it can be seen at the end of the video.

On this sad occasion I decided to choose a song from Hana Hegerová’s repertoire which is especially dear to me: “Bože můj, já chci zpět” (My God, I want it back), which actually is a Czech version of the French song “Ma jeunesse fout l'camp” (Jean-Claude Pascal, Françoise Hardy...): • Hana Hegerová ❖ Životn...
Hegerová was a very demanding artist: she sang only the best lyrics, the best music and was always surrounded by the best musicians who could provide the singer with a mastery arrangements and such accompaniment.

Thank you so much for these two videos. My regret is that I have only 'discovered' her today. What a marvellous artiste. Why the UK is so U.S. centric when it comes to music, but it has always been thus as people seem afraid of songs in a foreign language. There were tears in my eyes too as she sang Ne me quittez pas.
Thank you so much for another poignant tribute to a great artist; this tender, nostalgic song couldn't be more appropriate as a farewell, honouring her exceptional talent.

Thank you, Panie Jurku for reminding me of Hana Hegerová. How sad that she has died. I was first introduced to her music by a Slovak friend in the U.S. who played her music often in her home. Niech spoczywa w pokoju wiecznym.

Miałem 16 lat jak ją zobaczyłem na estradzie festiwalowej Sopotu, poprzez transmisję tv.
A potem tyle osobistych spraw i wzruszeń złączyło się z jej sztuką. W zasadzie jestem Jej świadkiem - znad Wisły ! Może bardziej znad... Rawy ? Bo to i bliżej było przecież do czechosłowackiej granicy.

Ja nie potrafię myśleć, bez uczucia serdeczności o Bohumile Hrabalu, a teraz przyszła mi myśl taka,że Hrabal, przy tej piosence wstawał od stołu w praskiej knajpie ale nie wstał. Został na jeszcze jeden z Boudnikiem kufelek.
