When this drama was on air i was in university while my sister was preparing for CSS. We are four sisters and my mother had a lead role in where we are today. I remember my mother used to watch this drama and she used to cry while watching this. And she said Kashaf reflects my daughter (my sister who was preparing for CSS). After you announced that we will review zindagi gulzar hai i started watching it on Netflix, my sister didn’t succeed in CSS but she is on a very powerful position in gov now. And i also got a very nice job in Gov sector but my mother is not in this world any more ( May her soul rests in peace) and i cried on every single episode and i realised why she used to cry. Samina Perzada reminded me of my mother. She was such a strong woman. She raised us without my father or any relatives support. Such drama with portrayal of strong women should be made.

I am an Indian and the reason why ZGH was such a HUGE hit when it aired on Zindagi is because how realistic Zaroon and Kashaf's romantic scenes were. We were literally fed up of the gibberish romance they used to show between couples on Indian TV shows - over the top, flying dupattas, damsel in distress and arrogant heros along with the whole tease of how and when will they get married or will the couple consummate or not. Here marriage was wrapped up in one episode and the focus was on everyday issues between the lead couple..realistic conversations and realistic set up. That chai scene was so blush blush, that without Zaroon even touching her, the intense gaze of Fawad was like something else.
Nothing will match up to Humsafar in the soulful romantic chemistry between the leads, but I personally absolutely love ZGH for being so fresh and timeless and relatable. A lot of Kashaf's monologues were so on point and Zaroon's chauvinism works perfectly well for Kashaf's insecurities because he gave her and promised her to be a strong shelter.

I loved fawad's romantic side more in zdh than humsafar, to be specific, the night scene when they both sit on the swing and zaroon tries to be romantic and kashaf being the practical girl she is trying to ignore his hints, was so perfect and realistic, i just love that scene.

It's rare to find an actress like Sanam Saeed in the industry, someone who is always so appreciative of her co-stars and her contemporaries. There was absolutely no need for her to talk about Saba Qamar and her "groundbreaking" dramas and about how every single actor was so good in ZGH. But she did. Goes on to speak volumes about the amount of respect and admiration she has for everyone. Also, she didn't shy away from pointing out the sexism that Fawad's character had. It's rare to see a celebrity taking criticism oh so sportingly. She really is one of a kind. I sincerely hope she gets the kind of work she deserves because I honestly feel her potential hasn't been fully tapped.

The reason that I place ZGH over Humsafar is because it is so much closer to an everyday reality. In my opinion the character of Rafia is the pivotal one of the drama. She was shown as a well educated woman who was faced with the challenge of being married yet raising her children as a single parent. She was dedicated, humble and determined to raise her girls without using her husband's money which he had obtained through taking bribes. Samina Perzada was outstanding in the role. I have pointed out to my daughter how well they have shown her on screen; no makeup, simple earrings, plain but well pressed clothing.
Here is a family where the sisters are depicted as different but loving, sensitive to each others problems.
ZGH and Dur e Shahwar are real slice of life dramas that each woman can and does identify with.
    * Your point about her hiding the purchase of the house, remember the MIL had already said to Zaroun that girls from middle class homes often give money to their parents. It embarrassed her excessively and I think she just didn't want to share it with him. Perhaps also because her trust issues were still not resolved to the point where she could discuss such matters with him without hesitation.*

I am becoming doctor from Pakistan no 1 medical college, king Edward... I am a boy, but I am kashf,, I watched it when I was preparing for mdcat in 2017 , I had not cleared my entrance exam in first attempt and I was preparing again, I had same state of mind as kashaf always had because I belonged to lower middle class and same financial setup with chik chik with my father, my mother is so strong woman, she is not educated but she raised us so well like rafia, my siblings are like kashaf's... I used to do the exact things as kashf did, same shikway gily with Allah... I can explain each and every expression and reaction and dialogue of kashf because that's me,,,, you guys, sanam nobody can completely justify her except those who lived a life like her as I had..... She was and is and always be my role model, because she Is me... And the last line she said sums it up " Allah nemtain b deta h r azmata b h mgr Ye bat phly smjh pta ni q ni ati " ...ye bat phly smjh ni ati jb tk ap wo phase Cross na kr ln,,, like now I can't say anything like kashf because of the position in which I am but you can't say that she was doing wrong,, of course she was wrong but that is justifiable...... For me if I would given a chance to live your whole life on just one drama I would pick zindgi gulzar hai and I had watched it thousand times and watch it million times again whenever I feel low in my life... ❤❤❤❤❤💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓

I have seen the drama so many times and will definitely see it many many times. You feel refreshed watching the drama and you get tremendous satisfaction as a viewer. It has a class that can't be matched by any other drama.Right from the first episode to the last episode each and every scene is classically picturised. Each scene has it's own importance in the drama which takes the story ahead. There is a thought behind every scene. All the actors are so nicely chosen for the characters that even the shortest character also makes it's impact. What to say about the lead characters ..every young girl aspires to be like Kashaf. Her ideals , her ethics , her self respect ,her intelligence makes you fall in her love. And at the same time you love rich but sensible ,loving , intelligent, sorted guy Zaroon too.The bonding shown between the siblings, friendship shown between the friends is just amazing. And the soft romance between Kashaf and Zaroon is just adorable... e.g.the telephonic conversation is so romantic , you can't stop admiring the give and take or reactions shown by the leading pair.
I feel short of words .
And the most important person is the director. What to say about her creativity, maturity, excellence, depth, experience!
She has drawn a beautiful masterpiece on a canvas which is unique , incomparable .
Hats off to you Sultana apa!
    You are a legend.
Craving to see the creation of such a great art from you again.
With lots of love from India.

i agree ... sanam even said the haya part, which was important for him. I dont know how i feel about this but since Zaroon was around people who probably commented on women is a mere object way, and he himself was part of this conversations. He wanted a women who understands that and is responsible for her own haya instead of him telling her how to be. Also the part that she wouldnt mingle with men and minded her own business made her the kind of women who would do the same in her career life, which was contrary to his mom and sister who believed in the extra circular activities as more important than family and home.

I had so many insecurities when I got married. And they had all sprouted from struggles similar to those of Kashaf. Believe you me, I learnt so much from this drama. I disagree with a lot of things Kashaf did. But I felt I understand and relate to this character so much. I totally understand where Kashaf’s feelings are coming from. There were multiple times Kashaf’s dialogues brought such intense tears to my eyes. And I would tell my husband, “She’s right”.
However, the one thing I learnt from this drama and now swear by it is Communication and Honesty. It is a must.

Thanks so much for getting the Director to explain the ZGH experience. Needless to say, it remains one of my favourite series so far. Watching it when it aired in India, I felt it was the desi version of Pride & Prejudice mixed with Little Women in parts, but very relatable to the subcontinent. Portrayal of strong women and from the point of view of a woman usually succeeds with a female Director. I guess the phenomenal success even when you see the drama in 2020 is a testament in itself. My friends and family in the US can’t relate to the fact that Pakistan creates such amazing content. Would now look forward to Shabana Azmi with Sultana Apa.

Many people just don't really like Zaroon but he is probably my one of the all times favorite character. If i have to say who am i, i would say i am Zaroon. My thought process is like him and i make mistakes too but i just understand him on basic level. The question he poses and asks about modern women pops in my head too. The conversation he has with Kashf when they were eating a dinner was great. I agree with him mostly on that. Obviously he makes some silly mistakes. If any guy has watched ZGH then i think he will say that Kashf is the type of girl he wants as his wife. She was strong and dignified lady.
'Tarazoo k 2 palron par rakh kar mard aur aurat k role aur hesiat mein barabari paida ni ki ja sakti Lekin mujy aesi barabari mein koi dilchaspi hi ni ha'.... this is the best dialogue from this play... this tells you what is equality...

After watching this interview, I have a lot more admiration for Sultana Siddiqui. Not a lot of people in the industry possess her level of talent and many directors should start taking notes from this interview. My favorite part of the Interview was when Hassan started to critique the characters, and Sultana Siddique jokingly said that don't you dare say anything only I have say in this -- while attempting to pull her sleeve up. I laughed so hard when she said that. Hassan's expression when she said was literally the highlight for me in this interview. Also, I'd like to say that Sanam Saeed is not only any amazing actor, but human being as well. I would only wish that she does more drama projects. Thanks so much Something Haute for doing this interview. It was perfect!

Zindagi gulzar hai is and will always be on the top of my list❤❤ ZGH is the very first pakistani drama that I watched I can't even describe how much I love this drama I still remember when Zindagi channel was launched in India ZGH was one of the first dramas that were telecast and here in India people fell in love with it instantly. ZGH was a blockbuster in India too.
The story is so relatable, the characters are so real, hats off to the director, the writer and all the cast everybody has done an excellent job. Sameena peerzada's character showed how a woman should be, her portrayal of an ideal woman and a supportive mother was commendable and I love sidra's(mansha) character too....waseem abbas, hina bayat, ayesha Omar, shehryar everyone was phenomenal and what to say about Fawad and Sanam. Kashaf is actually a role model for many she was confident she was unapologetic she was definitely an inspiration and Sanam saeed has given a performance of her life, I can't imagine any other actress as kashaf And Fawad was definitely a heartthrob as Zaroon, he is such an excellent actor everything he does look so real and magical I was just mesmerized by him. He was so so good as zaroon and obviously how can one not fall in love with fawad after watching him in ZGH or Humsafar 😅 so I fell in love with him, people were crazy for him so was I😍
You guys saw fawad and mahira first but we saw these two first and just lovvveeevddd them together. Fawad and Sanam had an amazing chemistry, their conversations, there romance was pure and magical. I just love the way how zaroon and kashaf's romance was shown it was BEAUTIFUL.
ZGH IS indeed a Masterpiece. I can watch it again and again .❤❤

This Jamaican: a 35+ yrs avid fan,of The Pakastani Productions in The Small Screen Industry, I have seen a fair share and have sorted them onto seven lists...This drama is on two of my lists: Masterpiece and Beyond Masterpiece:Can't Touch This...at least twice per month, I will watch certain episodes... over the years I have been introducing my family and friends to this arena and this drama is my introductory piece.. I just love hooking up with my peeps world wide as we watch together... so fun, especially when my guests are not keen on dubbed contents, but because it's me, through respect they watch to the end and then confess how wonderful it was... brabrahahaha.. just love been an ambassador for this wonderfully entertaining experience...I have even been so blessed for my four trips to this beautiful piece of paradise and has found my favourite city--Islamabad on my ninety eighth country visit of the one hundred and twenty......
I usually refer to Zindagi Gulzar Hai as "A Woman's Word"..it proves the class ceiling in these environments has been shattered... oh yeah.. as we Jamaicans would say,"It's irie mon"... it shouts.. "I am woman: hear me roar"... just love love love it...can't touch this... most def....The conception.writing, producing ,casting, directing, character portraying ..... unmatched

I experienced Islamabad after Paris,London,Tokyo,Hong Kong and Singapore and it topped them all, of which by then was mu ultimate tops, but surprisingly Islamabad blew them all out the water....
Due to circumstances beyond my control I haven't travelled outside my resident home Canada, in eleven years...and for the past four the pandemic has made it impossible..I have Africa,Israel and a few European countries to visit then I will see how my list changes... had left those areas to visit as a four generational trip,My Moms, myself,my daughter and my grand daughter.. they had refused me in 2008 and I were waiting to see them change their minds then the pandemic... was to be in Tokyo last year as a grad present to my granddaughter but couldn't..came close in 2009 when I returned from one of my Germany trips but Iraq got that bumped.. Hopefully they will at least do Ethiopia and Bethlehem with me.. if not It's a solo trip as it usually goes..chickens they be... brabrahahaha brabrahahaha...
Thanks for appreciating part of my birthplaces's culture...I remember in Murree I saw a Bob Marley poster and heard his songs... it was a treat.. plus in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, the opening scene where Zaroon was anxiously awaiting Kashf to pick him up for a work ", Don't worry be happy" was playing in the background...in Jaal (2019), Arsal had a poster of The Wailers in his room .. In Koi Chand Rakh ,Zain's man cave was full of Jamaicans Caribbean location shots and Jimmy Cliff's earlier posters.... just to name a few..
      Bohot Bohot Bohut....
Whenever this pandemic eases, I will be Pakistan bound... most def... I had one of my brothers who was in Germany at the time pick up one of those beautiful wood carved screens for me in Lahore, since 2018,it's in his house in the US and lately he told me he is claiming it as it looks good in his place... brabrahahaha brabrahahaha.. I was thinking of getting the swing to match.. but, now out if The Military, he says there is need for him to go back to Pakistan... I beg to differ, as I will use my big sister ways and means to get him on that flight with me.. brabrahahaha brabrahahaha..

Thanx Hassan n Aamna for starting this segment of reviewing classics. Was looking forward to it! My journey of watching Pakistani dramas began with Humsafar n i was hooked on ever since. Humsafar was a class apart in terms of story, direction, old school romance, dialogues, music, setting n of course Fawad n Mahira's chemistry. But ZGH was a masterpiece in its own right! They both have thr own place.. No comparison! U gotta watch Dastaan, another masterpiece, to complete the FK trilogy, and also to know what makes him such a phenomena ! Also some other amazing dramas like Daam, Durre Shehwar, Jackson Heights, Kankar, Aunn Zaara, Shere Zaat, Digest Writer, Mata E Jaan, Diyare Dil, Sangemarmar, Pyare Afzal, Dhoop kinare, Udari. Really looking forward to your reviews on them too. It was a delight to watch Sultana Ji n Sanam's interview! Both so genuine! Great to see a successful circle of women in the drama industry ...writers like Farhat Ishtiaq, Umera Ahmed, Producers Momina Duraid n Samina Saeed, Sana Shahnawaz, Directors like Sultana ji, Mehreen Jabbar and the talented female singers n actors too.

Zindagi gulzar has to be one of my favourite dramas!! Yall have to to do a haute gold episode of ‘dastaan’ ,’shehr-e-zaat’ , ‘kankar’ and ‘baaghi’ (but definitely take your time, we understand how much hard-work is put in these)

ZGH is a masterpiece in storytelling. So many personal life lessons to take from it - never has there been such a solid story and the execution. I must have watched it 5-6 times - no other international show can top this for me

Wish TereBin writers and production took advice from Zindagi Gulzar Hai. 2 people who dont talk to each other, are not going to find lasting love.

Omg I just noticed Simi Raheels comment here! She is absolutely right, Asmara should also get credit for her incredible plus v balanced performance!
For those who don’t know, the girl who played Asmara is her real life daughter!

ZGH was magical, and will remain so in the times to come! 💜
Throughly enjoyed the series, yet was expecting more of Zaroon and Kahaf's romance (when it aired). Kashaf's character was THE only tv character, that has an impact on me (in a lot of ways) . That spiritual factor and her connection to God, her values, her ego, her being not so expressive! ❤️ Just adore her! 💟 One thing that I've learned from the serial is that, despite being very professional towards your career, both women and men should invest their time in their relationship, and never to take your partner forgranted. Also, competitiveness is good in professional grounds, but when it comes to relationship, you should not compete or think of the other gender as being SUPERIOR or INFERIOR to yours! 💕 Watching ZGH is a unique experience everytime I re-watch it! Kudos to the makers and the actors.
PS: Thankyou for bringing in Sanam Saeed!! 💖
RECOMMENDATIONS for Haute golds to come: Dastaan, Durre Shehwar, Diyar e Dil, Yakeen Ka Safar! 🌸

I disagree here with the character of zaroon. He was not a negative character.. only as a man he wants that man in a relationship be respected by women like her sister mother and wife which is absolutely right. Kashf is also closed to me and my heart I completely understand her character nothing is wrong this has been portrayed absolutely real. When you dont have trust in men its hard to build trust in any relation and thats how kashf trust and love for zaroon evolve during the story. Beautiful drama ever.

Have said this 100k times but my message never gets through. I hope SOMEONE from something hautes team reads it and take in to notice.
Your haute gold has become my new obsession I absolutely LOVE the discussion and surprises you guys throw us. Please its a request to do a haute gold for daastan and jackson heights. Jackson heights didn't get the recognition it should have gotten its an absolute delight to watch dramas that are not based on two homes and girl problems. It is a hidden gem of our industry that never got recognition and its sad. But PLEASE watch it and review it for us.
    Thank you!!

@@sab-ali I wish people created hype for jackson heights like they did for humsafar which in my opinion was pretty average. But to each their own I guess I just want them to review jackson heights because they talk about SO many things that are missing in dramas these days I feel jackson heights is a perfect example of how dramas should be like and so I desperately want them to review it

Can’t wait to see you guys decode the absolutely brilliant 'Zindagi Gulzar Hai' and interview the phenomenal cast and crew. In terms of script, direction, character arcs and on screen chemistry, ZGH has set the bar really high.
PS- I thoroughly enjoyed the Haute Gold episode on Humsafar.
I’m extremely grateful to the content and reviews that you guys put out. It has helped me discover some great gems (dramas). Congratulations on your well deserved nomination! Many more to come. :)

Asmara was brilliant in her role!! She was unapologetically herself and zaroon knew her well but him being a complicated character couldn't refuse from getting engaged. Asmara never pretended to be something she was not and rightfully deserved a partner who liked her the way she is. And in the end she was level headed to call Zaroon out on his childish behavior of not telling his wife about them
